Memorize Juz Amma in Ramadan: a 30-day plan
Juz Amma is the 30th part of the Qur’an: 37 surahs and 564 verses. Learning about 21 new verses a day, you can memorize all of it in one Ramadan and still keep the last three days for review. The plan starts with the shortest surahs, An-Nas and Al-Falaq, and works back to An-Naba.
Every surah below opens word by word, with transliteration, an English translation and a recitation you can repeat.
The 30-day plan
The longer surahs come at the end, so later days have fewer, longer verses. If a day is too much, carry it over: finishing after Ramadan is still finishing. To plan at your own pace, use the memorizing calculator.
How to keep up during Ramadan
- Pick one fixed time. After suhoor or after Fajr suits many people, when the house is quiet.
- Review before new. Recite yesterday’s verses first, then learn today’s.
- Listen, then repeat one verse at a time until you can say it without looking, then join it to the verses before it.
- Recite what you learnt in your prayers. It is the best review there is.
- Understand the words. Reading each verse word by word makes it easier to keep.
