Bismillah

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīmi

English In the name of Allāh, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

  1. بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) name
  2. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
  3. ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmānithe Most Gracious
  4. ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmithe Most Merciful

Verse 1

أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ

Transliteration alhākumu l-takāthuru

English Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you

  1. أَلْهَىٰكُمُalhākumuDiverts you
  2. ٱلتَّكَاثُرُl-takāthuruthe competition to increase

Verse 2

حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ ٱلْمَقَابِرَ

Transliteration ḥattā zur'tumu l-maqābira

English Until you visit the graveyards.

  1. حَتَّىٰḥattāUntil
  2. زُرْتُمُzur'tumuyou visit
  3. ٱلْمَقَابِرَl-maqābirathe graves

Verse 3

كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration kallā sawfa taʿlamūna

English No! You are going to know.

  1. كَلَّاkallāNay
  2. سَوْفَsawfaSoon
  3. تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou will know

Verse 4

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration thumma kallā sawfa taʿlamūna

English Then, no! You are going to know.

  1. ثُمَّthummaThen
  2. كَلَّاkallānay
  3. سَوْفَsawfaSoon
  4. تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou will know

Verse 5

كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ ٱلْيَقِينِ

Transliteration kallā law taʿlamūna ʿil'ma l-yaqīni

English No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty...

Verse 6

لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ

Transliteration latarawunna l-jaḥīma

English You will surely see the Hellfire.

  1. لَتَرَوُنَّlatarawunnaSurely you will see
  2. ٱلْجَحِيمَl-jaḥīmathe Hellfire

Verse 7

ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ ٱلْيَقِينِ

Transliteration thumma latarawunnahā ʿayna l-yaqīni

English Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.

  2. لَتَرَوُنَّهَاlatarawunnahāsurely you will see it
  3. عَيْنَʿayna(with the) eye
  4. ٱلْيَقِينِl-yaqīni(of) certainty

ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

Transliteration thumma latus'alunna yawma-idhin ʿani l-naʿīmi

English Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.
