The Qur’an has 114 surahs and 6,236 verses (not counting the Bismillah at the start of the surahs). How long it takes to memorize depends on how many new verses you learn a day, how many days a week you study, and how much time you keep for review.

How long to memorize the whole Qur’an
Learning every day, with no days off:
| New verses a day | Days | Years |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6,236 | 17.1 |
| 2 | 3,118 | 8.5 |
| 3 | 2,079 | 5.7 |
| 5 | 1,248 | 3.4 |
| 10 | 624 | 1.7 |
| 15 | 416 | 1.1 |
| 20 | 312 | 0.9 |
These are averages: some verses are a few words, others fill most of a page, so a fixed number of verses a day is easier early on with short surahs. Many learners count in lines or pages instead once they reach longer surahs.
How long to memorize Juz Amma
Juz Amma has 564 verses: about 113 days at 5 new verses a day, or 57 days at 10. See the Juz Amma list and printable tracker.
How to make it faster without forgetting
- Be consistent. A short session every day does more than a long one once a week.
- Review before new. Start each session with yesterday’s and last week’s verses; new verses fade quickly without it.
- Understand the words. A verse you understand word by word is easier to keep.
- Test yourself without looking, and practise the places where you stop.
