Surah An-Nisa in English: word by word, transliteration

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīmi

English In the name of Allāh, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

1. بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) name
2. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
3. ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmānithe Most Gracious
4. ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmithe Most Merciful

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَٰحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالًا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَآءً ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى تَسَآءَلُونَ بِهِۦ وَٱلْأَرْحَامَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا

Transliteration yāayyuhā l-nāsu ittaqū rabbakumu alladhī khalaqakum min nafsin wāḥidatin wakhalaqa min'hā zawjahā wabatha min'humā rijālan kathīran wanisāan wa-ittaqū l-laha alladhī tasāalūna bihi wal-arḥāma inna l-laha kāna ʿalaykum raqīban

English O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allāh, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allāh is ever, over you, an Observer.

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
2. ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsumankind
3. ٱتَّقُوا۟ittaqūFear
4. رَبَّكُمُrabbakumuyour Lord
5. ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One Who
6. خَلَقَكُمkhalaqakumcreated you
7. مِّنminfrom
8. نَّفْسٍۢnafsina soul
9. وَٰحِدَةٍۢwāḥidatinsingle
10. وَخَلَقَwakhalaqaand created
11. مِنْهَاmin'hāfrom it
12. زَوْجَهَاzawjahāits mate
13. وَبَثَّwabathaand dispersed
14. مِنْهُمَاmin'humāfrom both of them
15. رِجَالًۭاrijālanmen
16. كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
17. وَنِسَآءًۭ ۚwanisāanand women
18. وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd fear
19. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
20. ٱلَّذِىalladhī(through) Whom
21. تَسَآءَلُونَtasāalūnayou ask
22. بِهِۦbihi[with it]
23. وَٱلْأَرْحَامَ ۚwal-arḥāmaand the wombs
24. إِنَّinnaIndeed
25. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
26. كَانَkānais
27. عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumover you
28. رَقِيبًۭاraqībanEver-Watchful

وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰٓ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تَتَبَدَّلُوا۟ ٱلْخَبِيثَ بِٱلطَّيِّبِ ۖ وَلَا تَأْكُلُوٓا۟ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حُوبًا كَبِيرًا

Transliteration waātū l-yatāmā amwālahum walā tatabaddalū l-khabītha bil-ṭayibi walā takulū amwālahum ilā amwālikum innahu kāna ḥūban kabīran

English And give to the orphans their properties and do not substitute the defective [of your own] for the good [of theirs]. And do not consume their properties into your own. Indeed, that is ever a great sin.

1. وَءَاتُوا۟waātūAnd give
2. ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰٓl-yatāmā(to) the orphans
3. أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ ۖamwālahumtheir wealth
4. وَلَاwalāand (do) not
5. تَتَبَدَّلُوا۟tatabaddalūexchange
6. ٱلْخَبِيثَl-khabīthathe bad
7. بِٱلطَّيِّبِ ۖbil-ṭayibiwith the good
8. وَلَاwalāand (do) not
9. تَأْكُلُوٓا۟takulūconsume
10. أَمْوَٰلَهُمْamwālahumtheir wealth
11. إِلَىٰٓilāwith
12. أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ ۚamwālikumyour wealth
13. إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, it
14. كَانَkānais
15. حُوبًۭاḥūbana sin
16. كَبِيرًۭاkabīrangreat

وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تُقْسِطُوا۟ فِى ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ فَٱنكِحُوا۟ مَا طَابَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ مَثْنَىٰ وَثُلَـٰثَ وَرُبَـٰعَ ۖ فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا۟ فَوَٰحِدَةً أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰٓ أَلَّا تَعُولُوا۟

Transliteration wa-in khif'tum allā tuq'siṭū fī l-yatāmā fa-inkiḥū mā ṭāba lakum mina l-nisāi mathnā wathulātha warubāʿa fa-in khif'tum allā taʿdilū fawāḥidatan aw mā malakat aymānukum dhālika adnā allā taʿūlū

English And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hands possess [i.e., slaves]. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].

1. وَإِنْwa-inAnd if
2. خِفْتُمْkhif'tumyou fear
3. أَلَّاallāthat not
4. تُقْسِطُوا۟tuq'siṭūyou will be able to do justice
5. فِىfīwith
6. ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰl-yatāmāthe orphans
7. فَٱنكِحُوا۟fa-inkiḥūthen marry
8. مَاmāwhat
9. طَابَṭābaseems suitable
10. لَكُمlakumto you
11. مِّنَminafrom
12. ٱلنِّسَآءِl-nisāithe women
13. مَثْنَىٰmathnātwo
14. وَثُلَـٰثَwathulāthaor three
15. وَرُبَـٰعَ ۖwarubāʿaor four
16. فَإِنْfa-inBut if
17. خِفْتُمْkhif'tumyou fear
18. أَلَّاallāthat not
19. تَعْدِلُوا۟taʿdilūyou can do justice
20. فَوَٰحِدَةًfawāḥidatanthen (marry) one
21. أَوْawor
22. مَاmāwhat
23. مَلَكَتْmalakatpossesses
24. أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۚaymānukumyour right hand
25. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
26. أَدْنَىٰٓadnā(is) more appropriate
27. أَلَّاallāthat (may) not
28. تَعُولُوا۟taʿūlūyou oppress

وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلنِّسَآءَ صَدُقَـٰتِهِنَّ نِحْلَةً ۚ فَإِن طِبْنَ لَكُمْ عَن شَىْءٍ مِّنْهُ نَفْسًا فَكُلُوهُ هَنِيٓـًٔا مَّرِيٓـًٔا

Transliteration waātū l-nisāa ṣaduqātihinna niḥ'latan fa-in ṭib'na lakum ʿan shayin min'hu nafsan fakulūhu hanīan marīan

English And give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gifts graciously. But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in satisfaction and ease.

1. وَءَاتُوا۟waātūAnd give
2. ٱلنِّسَآءَl-nisāathe women
3. صَدُقَـٰتِهِنَّṣaduqātihinnatheir dower
4. نِحْلَةًۭ ۚniḥ'latangraciously
5. فَإِنfa-inBut if
6. طِبْنَṭib'nathey remit
7. لَكُمْlakumto you
8. عَنʿanof
9. شَىْءٍۢshayinanything
10. مِّنْهُmin'huof it
11. نَفْسًۭاnafsan(on their) own
12. فَكُلُوهُfakulūhuthen eat it
13. هَنِيٓـًۭٔاhanīan(in) satisfaction
14. مَّرِيٓـًۭٔاmarīan(and) ease

وَلَا تُؤْتُوا۟ ٱلسُّفَهَآءَ أَمْوَٰلَكُمُ ٱلَّتِى جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ قِيَـٰمًا وَٱرْزُقُوهُمْ فِيهَا وَٱكْسُوهُمْ وَقُولُوا۟ لَهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا

Transliteration walā tu'tū l-sufahāa amwālakumu allatī jaʿala l-lahu lakum qiyāman wa-ur'zuqūhum fīhā wa-ik'sūhum waqūlū lahum qawlan maʿrūfan

English And do not give the weak-minded your property, which Allāh has made a means of sustenance for you, but provide for them with it and clothe them and speak to them words of appropriate kindness.

1. وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
2. تُؤْتُوا۟tu'tūgive
3. ٱلسُّفَهَآءَl-sufahāathe foolish
4. أَمْوَٰلَكُمُamwālakumuyour wealth
5. ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
6. جَعَلَjaʿala(was) made
7. ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
8. لَكُمْlakumfor you
9. قِيَـٰمًۭاqiyāmana means of support
10. وَٱرْزُقُوهُمْwa-ur'zuqūhum(but) provide (for) them
11. فِيهَاfīhāwith it
12. وَٱكْسُوهُمْwa-ik'sūhumand clothe them
13. وَقُولُوا۟waqūlūand speak
14. لَهُمْlahumto them
15. قَوْلًۭاqawlanwords
16. مَّعْرُوفًۭاmaʿrūfan(of) kindness

وَٱبْتَلُوا۟ ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغُوا۟ ٱلنِّكَاحَ فَإِنْ ءَانَسْتُم مِّنْهُمْ رُشْدًا فَٱدْفَعُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تَأْكُلُوهَآ إِسْرَافًا وَبِدَارًا أَن يَكْبَرُوا۟ ۚ وَمَن كَانَ غَنِيًّا فَلْيَسْتَعْفِفْ ۖ وَمَن كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۚ فَإِذَا دَفَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ فَأَشْهِدُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ حَسِيبًا

Transliteration wa-ib'talū l-yatāmā ḥattā idhā balaghū l-nikāḥa fa-in ānastum min'hum rush'dan fa-id'faʿū ilayhim amwālahum walā takulūhā is'rāfan wabidāran an yakbarū waman kāna ghaniyyan falyastaʿfif waman kāna faqīran falyakul bil-maʿrūfi fa-idhā dafaʿtum ilayhim amwālahum fa-ashhidū ʿalayhim wakafā bil-lahi ḥasīban

English And test the orphans [in their abilities] until they reach marriageable age. Then if you perceive in them sound judgement, release their property to them. And do not consume it excessively and quickly, [anticipating] that they will grow up. And whoever, [when acting as guardian], is self-sufficient should refrain [from taking a fee]; and whoever is poor - let him take according to what is acceptable. Then when you release their property to them, bring witnesses upon them. And sufficient is Allāh as Accountant.

1. وَٱبْتَلُوا۟wa-ib'talūAnd test
2. ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰl-yatāmāthe orphans
3. حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
4. إِذَاidhā[when]
5. بَلَغُوا۟balaghūthey reach[ed]
6. ٱلنِّكَاحَl-nikāḥa(the age of) marriage
7. فَإِنْfa-inthen if
8. ءَانَسْتُمānastumyou perceive
9. مِّنْهُمْmin'humin them
10. رُشْدًۭاrush'dansound judgement
11. فَٱدْفَعُوٓا۟fa-id'faʿūthen deliver
12. إِلَيْهِمْilayhimto them
13. أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ ۖamwālahumtheir wealth
14. وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
15. تَأْكُلُوهَآtakulūhāeat it
16. إِسْرَافًۭاis'rāfanextravagantly
17. وَبِدَارًاwabidāranand hastily
18. أَنan(fearing) that
19. يَكْبَرُوا۟ ۚyakbarūthey will grow up
20. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
21. كَانَkānais
22. غَنِيًّۭاghaniyyanrich
23. فَلْيَسْتَعْفِفْ ۖfalyastaʿfifthen he should refrain
24. وَمَنwamanand whoever
25. كَانَkānais
26. فَقِيرًۭاfaqīranpoor
27. فَلْيَأْكُلْfalyakulthen let him eat (of it)
28. بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۚbil-maʿrūfiin a fair manner
29. فَإِذَاfa-idhāThen when
30. دَفَعْتُمْdafaʿtumyou deliver
31. إِلَيْهِمْilayhimto them
32. أَمْوَٰلَهُمْamwālahumtheir wealth
33. فَأَشْهِدُوا۟fa-ashhidūthen take witnesses
34. عَلَيْهِمْ ۚʿalayhimon them
35. وَكَفَىٰwakafāAnd is sufficient
36. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiAllah
37. حَسِيبًۭاḥasīban(as) a Reckoner

لِّلرِّجَالِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا تَرَكَ ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَ وَلِلنِّسَآءِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا تَرَكَ ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَ مِمَّا قَلَّ مِنْهُ أَوْ كَثُرَ ۚ نَصِيبًا مَّفْرُوضًا

Transliteration lilrrijāli naṣībun mimmā taraka l-wālidāni wal-aqrabūna walilnnisāi naṣībun mimmā taraka l-wālidāni wal-aqrabūna mimmā qalla min'hu aw kathura naṣīban mafrūḍan

English For men is a share of what the parents and close relatives leave, and for women is a share of what the parents and close relatives leave, be it little or much - an obligatory share.

1. لِّلرِّجَالِlilrrijāliFor the men
2. نَصِيبٌۭnaṣībuna portion
3. مِّمَّاmimmāof what
4. تَرَكَtaraka(is) left
5. ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِl-wālidāni(by) the parents
6. وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَwal-aqrabūnaand the near relatives
7. وَلِلنِّسَآءِwalilnnisāiand for the women
8. نَصِيبٌۭnaṣībuna portion
9. مِّمَّاmimmāof what
10. تَرَكَtaraka(is) left
11. ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِl-wālidāni(by) parents
12. وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَwal-aqrabūnaand the near relatives
13. مِمَّاmimmāof what
14. قَلَّqalla(is) little
15. مِنْهُmin'huof it
16. أَوْawor
17. كَثُرَ ۚkathuramuch
18. نَصِيبًۭاnaṣībana portion
19. مَّفْرُوضًۭاmafrūḍanobligatory

وَإِذَا حَضَرَ ٱلْقِسْمَةَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينُ فَٱرْزُقُوهُم مِّنْهُ وَقُولُوا۟ لَهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا

Transliteration wa-idhā ḥaḍara l-qis'mata ulū l-qur'bā wal-yatāmā wal-masākīnu fa-ur'zuqūhum min'hu waqūlū lahum qawlan maʿrūfan

English And when [other] relatives and orphans and the needy are present at the [time of] division, then provide for them [something] out of it [i.e., the estate] and speak to them words of appropriate kindness.

1. وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
2. حَضَرَḥaḍarapresent
3. ٱلْقِسْمَةَl-qis'mata(at) the (time of) division
4. أُو۟لُوا۟ulū(of)
5. ٱلْقُرْبَىٰl-qur'bāthe relatives
6. وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰwal-yatāmāand the orphans
7. وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينُwal-masākīnuand the poor
8. فَٱرْزُقُوهُمfa-ur'zuqūhumthen provide them
9. مِّنْهُmin'hufrom it
10. وَقُولُوا۟waqūlūand speak
11. لَهُمْlahumto them
12. قَوْلًۭاqawlanwords
13. مَّعْرُوفًۭاmaʿrūfan(of) kindness

وَلْيَخْشَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَوْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّةً ضِعَـٰفًا خَافُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ فَلْيَتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلْيَقُولُوا۟ قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا

Transliteration walyakhsha alladhīna law tarakū min khalfihim dhurriyyatan ḍiʿāfan khāfū ʿalayhim falyattaqū l-laha walyaqūlū qawlan sadīdan

English And let those [executors and guardians] fear [injustice] as if they [themselves] had left weak offspring behind and feared for them. So let them fear Allāh and speak words of appropriate justice.

1. وَلْيَخْشَwalyakhshaAnd let fear
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. لَوْlawif
4. تَرَكُوا۟tarakūthey left
5. مِنْminfrom
6. خَلْفِهِمْkhalfihimbehind
7. ذُرِّيَّةًۭdhurriyyatanoffspring
8. ضِعَـٰفًاḍiʿāfanweak
9. خَافُوا۟khāfū(and) they would have feared
10. عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimabout them
11. فَلْيَتَّقُوا۟falyattaqūSo let them fear
12. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
13. وَلْيَقُولُوا۟walyaqūlūand let them speak
14. قَوْلًۭاqawlanwords
15. سَدِيدًاsadīdanappropriate

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَٰلَ ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ ظُلْمًا إِنَّمَا يَأْكُلُونَ فِى بُطُونِهِمْ نَارًا ۖ وَسَيَصْلَوْنَ سَعِيرًا

Transliteration inna alladhīna yakulūna amwāla l-yatāmā ẓul'man innamā yakulūna fī buṭūnihim nāran wasayaṣlawna saʿīran

English Indeed, those who devour the property of orphans unjustly are only consuming into their bellies fire. And they will be burned in a Blaze [i.e., Hellfire].

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. يَأْكُلُونَyakulūnaconsume
4. أَمْوَٰلَamwālawealth
5. ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰl-yatāmā(of) the orphans
6. ظُلْمًاẓul'manwrongfully
7. إِنَّمَاinnamāonly
8. يَأْكُلُونَyakulūnathey consume
9. فِىfīin
10. بُطُونِهِمْbuṭūnihimtheir bellies
11. نَارًۭا ۖnāranfire
12. وَسَيَصْلَوْنَwasayaṣlawnaand they will be burned
13. سَعِيرًۭاsaʿīran(in) a Blazing Fire

يُوصِيكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِىٓ أَوْلَـٰدِكُمْ ۖ لِلذَّكَرِ مِثْلُ حَظِّ ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ ۚ فَإِن كُنَّ نِسَآءً فَوْقَ ٱثْنَتَيْنِ فَلَهُنَّ ثُلُثَا مَا تَرَكَ ۖ وَإِن كَانَتْ وَٰحِدَةً فَلَهَا ٱلنِّصْفُ ۚ وَلِأَبَوَيْهِ لِكُلِّ وَٰحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا ٱلسُّدُسُ مِمَّا تَرَكَ إِن كَانَ لَهُۥ وَلَدٌ ۚ فَإِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ وَلَدٌ وَوَرِثَهُۥٓ أَبَوَاهُ فَلِأُمِّهِ ٱلثُّلُثُ ۚ فَإِن كَانَ لَهُۥٓ إِخْوَةٌ فَلِأُمِّهِ ٱلسُّدُسُ ۚ مِنۢ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصِى بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ ۗ ءَابَآؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ لَكُمْ نَفْعًا ۚ فَرِيضَةً مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

Transliteration yūṣīkumu l-lahu fī awlādikum lildhakari mith'lu ḥaẓẓi l-unthayayni fa-in kunna nisāan fawqa ith'natayni falahunna thuluthā mā taraka wa-in kānat wāḥidatan falahā l-niṣ'fu wali-abawayhi likulli wāḥidin min'humā l-sudusu mimmā taraka in kāna lahu waladun fa-in lam yakun lahu waladun wawarithahu abawāhu fali-ummihi l-thuluthu fa-in kāna lahu ikh'watun fali-ummihi l-sudusu min baʿdi waṣiyyatin yūṣī bihā aw daynin ābāukum wa-abnāukum lā tadrūna ayyuhum aqrabu lakum nafʿan farīḍatan mina l-lahi inna l-laha kāna ʿalīman ḥakīman

English Allāh instructs you concerning your children [i.e., their portions of inheritance]: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females. But if there are [only] daughters, two or more, for them is two thirds of one's estate. And if there is only one, for her is half. And for one's parents, to each one of them is a sixth of his estate if he left children. But if he had no children and the parents [alone] inherit from him, then for his mother is one third. And if he had brothers [and/or sisters], for his mother is a sixth, after any bequest he [may have] made or debt. Your parents or your children - you know not which of them are nearest to you in benefit. [These shares are] an obligation [imposed] by Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.

1. يُوصِيكُمُyūṣīkumuInstructs you
2. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
3. فِىٓfīconcerning
4. أَوْلَـٰدِكُمْ ۖawlādikumyour children
5. لِلذَّكَرِlildhakarifor the male
6. مِثْلُmith'lulike
7. حَظِّḥaẓẓi(the) portion
8. ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ ۚl-unthayayni(of) two females
9. فَإِنfa-inBut if
10. كُنَّkunnathere are
11. نِسَآءًۭnisāan(only) women
12. فَوْقَfawqamore (than)
13. ٱثْنَتَيْنِith'nataynitwo
14. فَلَهُنَّfalahunnathen for them
15. ثُلُثَاthuluthātwo thirds
16. مَاmā(of) what
17. تَرَكَ ۖtarakahe left
18. وَإِنwa-inAnd if
19. كَانَتْkānat(there) is
20. وَٰحِدَةًۭwāḥidatan(only) one
21. فَلَهَاfalahāthen for her
22. ٱلنِّصْفُ ۚl-niṣ'fu(is) half
23. وَلِأَبَوَيْهِwali-abawayhiAnd for his parents
24. لِكُلِّlikullifor each
25. وَٰحِدٍۢwāḥidinone
26. مِّنْهُمَاmin'humāof them
27. ٱلسُّدُسُl-sudusua sixth
28. مِمَّاmimmāof what
29. تَرَكَtaraka(is) left
30. إِنinif
31. كَانَkānais
32. لَهُۥlahufor him
33. وَلَدٌۭ ۚwaladuna child
34. فَإِنfa-inBut if
35. لَّمْlamnot
36. يَكُنyakunis
37. لَّهُۥlahufor him
38. وَلَدٌۭwaladunany child
39. وَوَرِثَهُۥٓwawarithahuand inherit[ed] him
40. أَبَوَاهُabawāhuhis parents
41. فَلِأُمِّهِfali-ummihithen for his mother
42. ٱلثُّلُثُ ۚl-thuluthu(is) one third
43. فَإِنfa-inAnd if
44. كَانَkānaare
45. لَهُۥٓlahufor him
46. إِخْوَةٌۭikh'watunbrothers and sisters
47. فَلِأُمِّهِfali-ummihithen for his mother
48. ٱلسُّدُسُ ۚl-sudusu(is) the sixth
49. مِنۢminfrom
50. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
51. وَصِيَّةٍۢwaṣiyyatinany will
52. يُوصِىyūṣīhe has made
53. بِهَآbihā[of which]
54. أَوْawor
55. دَيْنٍ ۗdayninany debt
56. ءَابَآؤُكُمْābāukumYour parents
57. وَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْwa-abnāukumand your children
58. لَاlānot
59. تَدْرُونَtadrūnayou know
60. أَيُّهُمْayyuhumwhich of them
61. أَقْرَبُaqrabu(is) nearer
62. لَكُمْlakumto you
63. نَفْعًۭا ۚnafʿan(in) benefit
64. فَرِيضَةًۭfarīḍatanAn obligation
65. مِّنَminafrom
66. ٱللَّهِ ۗl-lahiAllah
67. إِنَّinnaIndeed
68. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
69. كَانَkānais
70. عَلِيمًاʿalīmanAll-Knowing
71. حَكِيمًۭاḥakīmanAll-Wise

۞ وَلَكُمْ نِصْفُ مَا تَرَكَ أَزْوَٰجُكُمْ إِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّهُنَّ وَلَدٌ ۚ فَإِن كَانَ لَهُنَّ وَلَدٌ فَلَكُمُ ٱلرُّبُعُ مِمَّا تَرَكْنَ ۚ مِنۢ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصِينَ بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ ۚ وَلَهُنَّ ٱلرُّبُعُ مِمَّا تَرَكْتُمْ إِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّكُمْ وَلَدٌ ۚ فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ وَلَدٌ فَلَهُنَّ ٱلثُّمُنُ مِمَّا تَرَكْتُم ۚ مِّنۢ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ تُوصُونَ بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ ۗ وَإِن كَانَ رَجُلٌ يُورَثُ كَلَـٰلَةً أَوِ ٱمْرَأَةٌ وَلَهُۥٓ أَخٌ أَوْ أُخْتٌ فَلِكُلِّ وَٰحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا ٱلسُّدُسُ ۚ فَإِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَكْثَرَ مِن ذَٰلِكَ فَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فِى ٱلثُّلُثِ ۚ مِنۢ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصَىٰ بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ غَيْرَ مُضَآرٍّ ۚ وَصِيَّةً مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَلِيمٌ

Transliteration walakum niṣ'fu mā taraka azwājukum in lam yakun lahunna waladun fa-in kāna lahunna waladun falakumu l-rubuʿu mimmā tarakna min baʿdi waṣiyyatin yūṣīna bihā aw daynin walahunna l-rubuʿu mimmā taraktum in lam yakun lakum waladun fa-in kāna lakum waladun falahunna l-thumunu mimmā taraktum min baʿdi waṣiyyatin tūṣūna bihā aw daynin wa-in kāna rajulun yūrathu kalālatan awi im'ra-atun walahu akhun aw ukh'tun falikulli wāḥidin min'humā l-sudusu fa-in kānū akthara min dhālika fahum shurakāu fī l-thuluthi min baʿdi waṣiyyatin yūṣā bihā aw daynin ghayra muḍārrin waṣiyyatan mina l-lahi wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥalīmun

English And for you is half of what your wives leave if they have no child. But if they have a child, for you is one fourth of what they leave, after any bequest they [may have] made or debt. And for them [i.e., the wives] is one fourth if you leave no child. But if you leave a child, then for them is an eighth of what you leave, after any bequest you [may have] made or debt. And if a man or woman leaves neither ascendants nor descendants but has a brother or a sister, then for each one of them is a sixth. But if they are more than two, they share a third, after any bequest which was made or debt, as long as there is no detriment [caused]. [This is] an ordinance from Allāh, and Allāh is Knowing and Forbearing.

1. ۞ وَلَكُمْwalakumAnd for you
2. نِصْفُniṣ'fu(is) half
3. مَاmā(of) what
4. تَرَكَtaraka(is) left
5. أَزْوَٰجُكُمْazwājukumby your wives
6. إِنinif
7. لَّمْlamnot
8. يَكُنyakunis
9. لَّهُنَّlahunnafor them
10. وَلَدٌۭ ۚwaladuna child
11. فَإِنfa-inBut if
12. كَانَkānais
13. لَهُنَّlahunnafor them
14. وَلَدٌۭwaladuna child
15. فَلَكُمُfalakumuthen for you
16. ٱلرُّبُعُl-rubuʿu(is) the fourth
17. مِمَّاmimmāof what
18. تَرَكْنَ ۚtaraknathey left
19. مِنۢminfrom
20. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
21. وَصِيَّةٍۢwaṣiyyatinany will
22. يُوصِينَyūṣīnathey have made
23. بِهَآbihā[for which]
24. أَوْawor
25. دَيْنٍۢ ۚdayninany debt
26. وَلَهُنَّwalahunnaAnd for them
27. ٱلرُّبُعُl-rubuʿu(is) the fourth
28. مِمَّاmimmāof what
29. تَرَكْتُمْtaraktumyou left
30. إِنinif
31. لَّمْlamnot
32. يَكُنyakunis
33. لَّكُمْlakumfor you
34. وَلَدٌۭ ۚwaladuna child
35. فَإِنfa-inBut if

38. وَلَدٌۭwaladuna child
39. فَلَهُنَّfalahunnathen for them
40. ٱلثُّمُنُl-thumunu(is) the eighth
41. مِمَّاmimmāof what
42. تَرَكْتُم ۚtaraktumyou left
43. مِّنۢminfrom
44. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
45. وَصِيَّةٍۢwaṣiyyatinany will
46. تُوصُونَtūṣūnayou have made
47. بِهَآbihā[for which]
48. أَوْawor
49. دَيْنٍۢ ۗdayninany debt
50. وَإِنwa-inAnd if
51. كَانَkāna[is]
52. رَجُلٌۭrajuluna man
53. يُورَثُyūrathu(whose wealth) is to be inherited
54. كَلَـٰلَةًkalālatan(has) no parent or child
55. أَوِawior
56. ٱمْرَأَةٌۭim'ra-atuna women
57. وَلَهُۥٓwalahuand for him
58. أَخٌakhun(is) a brother
59. أَوْawor
60. أُخْتٌۭukh'tuna sister
61. فَلِكُلِّfalikullithen for each
62. وَٰحِدٍۢwāḥidinone
63. مِّنْهُمَاmin'humāof (the) two
64. ٱلسُّدُسُ ۚl-sudusu(is) the sixth
65. فَإِنfa-inBut if
66. كَانُوٓا۟kānūthey are
67. أَكْثَرَaktharamore
68. مِنminthan
69. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
70. فَهُمْfahumthen they
71. شُرَكَآءُshurakāu(are) partners
72. فِىfīin
73. ٱلثُّلُثِ ۚl-thuluthithe third
74. مِنۢminfrom
75. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
76. وَصِيَّةٍۢwaṣiyyatinany will
77. يُوصَىٰyūṣāwas made
78. بِهَآbihā[for which]
79. أَوْawor
80. دَيْنٍdayninany debt
81. غَيْرَghayrawithout
82. مُضَآرٍّۢ ۚmuḍārrin(being) harmful
83. وَصِيَّةًۭwaṣiyyatanAn ordinance
84. مِّنَminafrom
85. ٱللَّهِ ۗl-lahiAllah
86. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
87. عَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knowing
88. حَلِيمٌۭḥalīmunAll-Forbearing

تِلْكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ يُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Transliteration til'ka ḥudūdu l-lahi waman yuṭiʿi l-laha warasūlahu yud'khil'hu jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā wadhālika l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīmu

English These are the limits [set by] Allāh, and whoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger will be admitted by Him to gardens [in Paradise] under which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein; and that is the great attainment.

1. تِلْكَtil'kaThese
2. حُدُودُḥudūdu(are the) limits
3. ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) Allah
4. وَمَنwamanand whoever
5. يُطِعِyuṭiʿiobeys
6. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
7. وَرَسُولَهُۥwarasūlahuand His Messenger
8. يُدْخِلْهُyud'khil'huHe will admit him
9. جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(to) Gardens
10. تَجْرِىtajrīflows
11. مِنminfrom
12. تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath them
13. ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
14. خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīna(will) abide forever
15. فِيهَا ۚfīhāin it
16. وَذَٰلِكَwadhālikaAnd that
17. ٱلْفَوْزُl-fawzu(is) the success
18. ٱلْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmu[the] great

وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَيَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَهُۥ يُدْخِلْهُ نَارًا خَـٰلِدًا فِيهَا وَلَهُۥ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ

Transliteration waman yaʿṣi l-laha warasūlahu wayataʿadda ḥudūdahu yud'khil'hu nāran khālidan fīhā walahu ʿadhābun muhīnun

English And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger and transgresses His limits - He will put him into the Fire to abide eternally therein, and he will have a humiliating punishment.

1. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
2. يَعْصِyaʿṣidisobeys
3. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
4. وَرَسُولَهُۥwarasūlahuand His Messenger
5. وَيَتَعَدَّwayataʿaddaand transgresses
6. حُدُودَهُۥḥudūdahuHis limits
7. يُدْخِلْهُyud'khil'huHe will admit him
8. نَارًاnāran(to) Fire
9. خَـٰلِدًۭاkhālidan(will) abide forever
10. فِيهَاfīhāin it
11. وَلَهُۥwalahuAnd for him
12. عَذَابٌۭʿadhābun(is) a punishment
13. مُّهِينٌۭmuhīnunhumiliating

وَٱلَّـٰتِى يَأْتِينَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمْ فَٱسْتَشْهِدُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةً مِّنكُمْ ۖ فَإِن شَهِدُوا۟ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ فِى ٱلْبُيُوتِ حَتَّىٰ يَتَوَفَّىٰهُنَّ ٱلْمَوْتُ أَوْ يَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُنَّ سَبِيلًا

Transliteration wa-allātī yatīna l-fāḥishata min nisāikum fa-is'tashhidū ʿalayhinna arbaʿatan minkum fa-in shahidū fa-amsikūhunna fī l-buyūti ḥattā yatawaffāhunna l-mawtu aw yajʿala l-lahu lahunna sabīlan

English Those who commit immorality [i.e., unlawful sexual intercourse] of your women - bring against them four [witnesses] from among you. And if they testify, confine them [i.e., the guilty women] to houses until death takes them or Allāh ordains for them [another] way.

1. وَٱلَّـٰتِىwa-allātīAnd those who
2. يَأْتِينَyatīnacommit
3. ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَl-fāḥishata[the] immorality
4. مِنminfrom
5. نِّسَآئِكُمْnisāikumyour women
6. فَٱسْتَشْهِدُوا۟fa-is'tashhidūthen call to witness
7. عَلَيْهِنَّʿalayhinnaagainst them
8. أَرْبَعَةًۭarbaʿatanfour
9. مِّنكُمْ ۖminkumamong you
10. فَإِنfa-inAnd if
11. شَهِدُوا۟shahidūthey testify
12. فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّfa-amsikūhunnathen confine them
13. فِىfīin
14. ٱلْبُيُوتِl-buyūtitheir houses
15. حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
16. يَتَوَفَّىٰهُنَّyatawaffāhunnacomes to them
17. ٱلْمَوْتُl-mawtu[the] death
18. أَوْawor
19. يَجْعَلَyajʿalamakes
20. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
21. لَهُنَّlahunnafor them
22. سَبِيلًۭاsabīlana way

وَٱلَّذَانِ يَأْتِيَـٰنِهَا مِنكُمْ فَـَٔاذُوهُمَا ۖ فَإِن تَابَا وَأَصْلَحَا فَأَعْرِضُوا۟ عَنْهُمَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا

Transliteration wa-alladhāni yatiyānihā minkum faādhūhumā fa-in tābā wa-aṣlaḥā fa-aʿriḍū ʿanhumā inna l-laha kāna tawwāban raḥīman

English And the two who commit it [i.e., unlawful sexual intercourse] among you - punish [i.e., dishonor] them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, leave them alone. Indeed, Allāh is ever Accepting of Repentance and Merciful.

1. وَٱلَّذَانِwa-alladhāniAnd the two who
2. يَأْتِيَـٰنِهَاyatiyānihācommit it
3. مِنكُمْminkumamong you
4. فَـَٔاذُوهُمَا ۖfaādhūhumāthen punish both of them
5. فَإِنfa-inBut if
6. تَابَاtābāthey repent
7. وَأَصْلَحَاwa-aṣlaḥāand correct themselves
8. فَأَعْرِضُوا۟fa-aʿriḍūthen turn away
9. عَنْهُمَآ ۗʿanhumāfrom both of them
10. إِنَّinnaIndeed
11. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
12. كَانَkānais
13. تَوَّابًۭاtawwābanOft-Forgiving
14. رَّحِيمًاraḥīmanMost-Merciful

إِنَّمَا ٱلتَّوْبَةُ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسُّوٓءَ بِجَهَـٰلَةٍ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُونَ مِن قَرِيبٍ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

Transliteration innamā l-tawbatu ʿalā l-lahi lilladhīna yaʿmalūna l-sūa bijahālatin thumma yatūbūna min qarībin fa-ulāika yatūbu l-lahu ʿalayhim wakāna l-lahu ʿalīman ḥakīman

English The repentance accepted by Allāh is only for those who do wrong in ignorance [or carelessness] and then repent soon [after]. It is those to whom Allāh will turn in forgiveness, and Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.

1. إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
2. ٱلتَّوْبَةُl-tawbatuthe acceptance of repentance
3. عَلَىʿalāby
4. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
5. لِلَّذِينَlilladhīna(is) for those who
6. يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
7. ٱلسُّوٓءَl-sūathe evil
8. بِجَهَـٰلَةٍۢbijahālatinin ignorance
9. ثُمَّthummathen
10. يَتُوبُونَyatūbūnathey repent
11. مِنminfrom
12. قَرِيبٍۢqarībinsoon after
13. فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikaThen those
14. يَتُوبُyatūbuwill have forgiveness
15. ٱللَّهُl-lahu(from) Allah
16. عَلَيْهِمْ ۗʿalayhimupon them
17. وَكَانَwakānaand is
18. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
19. عَلِيمًاʿalīmanAll-Knowing
20. حَكِيمًۭاḥakīmanAll-Wise

وَلَيْسَتِ ٱلتَّوْبَةُ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ قَالَ إِنِّى تُبْتُ ٱلْـَٔـٰنَ وَلَا ٱلَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

Transliteration walaysati l-tawbatu lilladhīna yaʿmalūna l-sayiāti ḥattā idhā ḥaḍara aḥadahumu l-mawtu qāla innī tub'tu l-āna walā alladhīna yamūtūna wahum kuffārun ulāika aʿtadnā lahum ʿadhāban alīman

English But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.

1. وَلَيْسَتِwalaysatiAnd not
2. ٱلتَّوْبَةُl-tawbatu(is) the acceptance of repentance
3. لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
4. يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
5. ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِl-sayiātithe evil deeds
6. حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
7. إِذَاidhāwhen
8. حَضَرَḥaḍaraapproaches
9. أَحَدَهُمُaḥadahumuone of them
10. ٱلْمَوْتُl-mawtu[the] death
11. قَالَqālahe says
12. إِنِّىinnīIndeed I
13. تُبْتُtub'turepent
14. ٱلْـَٔـٰنَl-ānanow
15. وَلَاwalāand not
16. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
17. يَمُوتُونَyamūtūnadie
18. وَهُمْwahumwhile they
19. كُفَّارٌ ۚkuffārun(are) disbelievers
20. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
21. أَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnāWe have prepared
22. لَهُمْlahumfor them
23. عَذَابًاʿadhābana punishment
24. أَلِيمًۭاalīmanpainful

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَن تَرِثُوا۟ ٱلنِّسَآءَ كَرْهًا ۖ وَلَا تَعْضُلُوهُنَّ لِتَذْهَبُوا۟ بِبَعْضِ مَآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ إِلَّآ أَن يَأْتِينَ بِفَـٰحِشَةٍ مُّبَيِّنَةٍ ۚ وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۚ فَإِن كَرِهْتُمُوهُنَّ فَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكْرَهُوا۟ شَيْـًٔا وَيَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ فِيهِ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا

Transliteration yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā yaḥillu lakum an tarithū l-nisāa karhan walā taʿḍulūhunna litadhhabū bibaʿḍi mā ātaytumūhunna illā an yatīna bifāḥishatin mubayyinatin waʿāshirūhunna bil-maʿrūfi fa-in karih'tumūhunna faʿasā an takrahū shayan wayajʿala l-lahu fīhi khayran kathīran

English O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion. And do not make difficulties for them in order to take [back] part of what you gave them unless they commit a clear immorality [i.e., adultery]. And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allāh makes therein much good.

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
3. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
4. لَاlāNot
5. يَحِلُّyaḥillu(is) lawful
6. لَكُمْlakumfor you
7. أَنanthat
8. تَرِثُوا۟tarithūyou inherit
9. ٱلنِّسَآءَl-nisāathe women
10. كَرْهًۭا ۖkarhan(by) force
11. وَلَاwalāAnd not
12. تَعْضُلُوهُنَّtaʿḍulūhunnayou constraint them
13. لِتَذْهَبُوا۟litadhhabūso that you may take
14. بِبَعْضِbibaʿḍia part
15. مَآmā(of) what
16. ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّātaytumūhunnayou have given them
17. إِلَّآillāexcept
18. أَنanthat
19. يَأْتِينَyatīnathey commit
20. بِفَـٰحِشَةٍۢbifāḥishatinimmorality
21. مُّبَيِّنَةٍۢ ۚmubayyinatinopen
22. وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّwaʿāshirūhunnaAnd live with them
23. بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۚbil-maʿrūfiin kindness
24. فَإِنfa-inBut if
25. كَرِهْتُمُوهُنَّkarih'tumūhunnayou dislike them
26. فَعَسَىٰٓfaʿasāthen perhaps
27. أَنanthat
28. تَكْرَهُوا۟takrahūyou dislike
29. شَيْـًۭٔاshayana thing
30. وَيَجْعَلَwayajʿalaand has placed
31. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
32. فِيهِfīhiin it
33. خَيْرًۭاkhayrangood
34. كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmuch

وَإِنْ أَرَدتُّمُ ٱسْتِبْدَالَ زَوْجٍ مَّكَانَ زَوْجٍ وَءَاتَيْتُمْ إِحْدَىٰهُنَّ قِنطَارًا فَلَا تَأْخُذُوا۟ مِنْهُ شَيْـًٔا ۚ أَتَأْخُذُونَهُۥ بُهْتَـٰنًا وَإِثْمًا مُّبِينًا

Transliteration wa-in aradttumu is'tib'dāla zawjin makāna zawjin waātaytum iḥ'dāhunna qinṭāran falā takhudhū min'hu shayan atakhudhūnahu buh'tānan wa-ith'man mubīnan

English But if you want to replace one wife with another and you have given one of them a great amount [in gifts], do not take [back] from it anything. Would you take it in injustice and manifest sin?

1. وَإِنْwa-inAnd if
2. أَرَدتُّمُaradttumuyou intend
3. ٱسْتِبْدَالَis'tib'dālareplacing
4. زَوْجٍۢzawjina wife
5. مَّكَانَmakāna(in) place
6. زَوْجٍۢzawjin(of) a wife
7. وَءَاتَيْتُمْwaātaytumand you have given
8. إِحْدَىٰهُنَّiḥ'dāhunnaone of them
9. قِنطَارًۭاqinṭāranheap (of gold)
10. فَلَاfalāthen (do) not
11. تَأْخُذُوا۟takhudhūtake away
12. مِنْهُmin'hufrom it
13. شَيْـًٔا ۚshayananything
14. أَتَأْخُذُونَهُۥatakhudhūnahuWould you take it
15. بُهْتَـٰنًۭاbuh'tānan(by) slander
16. وَإِثْمًۭاwa-ith'manand a sin
17. مُّبِينًۭاmubīnanopen

وَكَيْفَ تَأْخُذُونَهُۥ وَقَدْ أَفْضَىٰ بَعْضُكُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَأَخَذْنَ مِنكُم مِّيثَـٰقًا غَلِيظًا

Transliteration wakayfa takhudhūnahu waqad afḍā baʿḍukum ilā baʿḍin wa-akhadhna minkum mīthāqan ghalīẓan

English And how could you take it while you have gone in unto each other and they have taken from you a solemn covenant?

1. وَكَيْفَwakayfaAnd how
2. تَأْخُذُونَهُۥtakhudhūnahucould you take it
3. وَقَدْwaqadwhen surely
4. أَفْضَىٰafḍāhas gone
5. بَعْضُكُمْbaʿḍukumone of you
6. إِلَىٰilāto
7. بَعْضٍۢbaʿḍinanother
8. وَأَخَذْنَwa-akhadhnaand they have taken
9. مِنكُمminkumfrom you
10. مِّيثَـٰقًاmīthāqancovenant
11. غَلِيظًۭاghalīẓanstrong

وَلَا تَنكِحُوا۟ مَا نَكَحَ ءَابَآؤُكُم مِّنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَـٰحِشَةً وَمَقْتًا وَسَآءَ سَبِيلًا

Transliteration walā tankiḥū mā nakaḥa ābāukum mina l-nisāi illā mā qad salafa innahu kāna fāḥishatan wamaqtan wasāa sabīlan

English And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married, except what has already occurred. Indeed, it was an immorality and hateful [to Allāh] and was evil as a way.

1. وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
2. تَنكِحُوا۟tankiḥūmarry
3. مَاmāwhom
4. نَكَحَnakaḥamarried
5. ءَابَآؤُكُمābāukumyour fathers
6. مِّنَminaof
7. ٱلنِّسَآءِl-nisāithe women
8. إِلَّاillāexcept
9. مَاmāwhat
10. قَدْqadhas
11. سَلَفَ ۚsalafapassed before
12. إِنَّهُۥinnahuindeed it
13. كَانَkānawas
14. فَـٰحِشَةًۭfāḥishatanan immorality
15. وَمَقْتًۭاwamaqtanand hateful
16. وَسَآءَwasāaand (an) evil
17. سَبِيلًاsabīlanway

حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَّهَـٰتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُكُمْ وَأَخَوَٰتُكُمْ وَعَمَّـٰتُكُمْ وَخَـٰلَـٰتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُ ٱلْأَخِ وَبَنَاتُ ٱلْأُخْتِ وَأُمَّهَـٰتُكُمُ ٱلَّـٰتِىٓ أَرْضَعْنَكُمْ وَأَخَوَٰتُكُم مِّنَ ٱلرَّضَـٰعَةِ وَأُمَّهَـٰتُ نِسَآئِكُمْ وَرَبَـٰٓئِبُكُمُ ٱلَّـٰتِى فِى حُجُورِكُم مِّن نِّسَآئِكُمُ ٱلَّـٰتِى دَخَلْتُم بِهِنَّ فَإِن لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ دَخَلْتُم بِهِنَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَحَلَـٰٓئِلُ أَبْنَآئِكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِنْ أَصْلَـٰبِكُمْ وَأَن تَجْمَعُوا۟ بَيْنَ ٱلْأُخْتَيْنِ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

Transliteration ḥurrimat ʿalaykum ummahātukum wabanātukum wa-akhawātukum waʿammātukum wakhālātukum wabanātu l-akhi wabanātu l-ukh'ti wa-ummahātukumu allātī arḍaʿnakum wa-akhawātukum mina l-raḍāʿati wa-ummahātu nisāikum warabāibukumu allātī fī ḥujūrikum min nisāikumu allātī dakhaltum bihinna fa-in lam takūnū dakhaltum bihinna falā junāḥa ʿalaykum waḥalāilu abnāikumu alladhīna min aṣlābikum wa-an tajmaʿū bayna l-ukh'tayni illā mā qad salafa inna l-laha kāna ghafūran raḥīman

English Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers, and your step-daughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also prohibited are] the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for what has already occurred. Indeed, Allāh is ever Forgiving and Merciful.

1. حُرِّمَتْḥurrimatForbidden
2. عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumto you
3. أُمَّهَـٰتُكُمْummahātukum(are) your mothers
4. وَبَنَاتُكُمْwabanātukumand your daughters
5. وَأَخَوَٰتُكُمْwa-akhawātukumand your sisters
6. وَعَمَّـٰتُكُمْwaʿammātukumand your father's sisters
7. وَخَـٰلَـٰتُكُمْwakhālātukumand your mother's sisters
8. وَبَنَاتُwabanātuand daughters
9. ٱلْأَخِl-akhi(of) brothers
10. وَبَنَاتُwabanātuand daughters
11. ٱلْأُخْتِl-ukh'ti(of) sisters
12. وَأُمَّهَـٰتُكُمُwa-ummahātukumuand (the) mothers
13. ٱلَّـٰتِىٓallātīwho
14. أَرْضَعْنَكُمْarḍaʿnakumnursed you
15. وَأَخَوَٰتُكُمwa-akhawātukumand your sisters
16. مِّنَminafrom
17. ٱلرَّضَـٰعَةِl-raḍāʿatithe nursing
18. وَأُمَّهَـٰتُwa-ummahātuand mothers
19. نِسَآئِكُمْnisāikum(of) your wives
20. وَرَبَـٰٓئِبُكُمُwarabāibukumuand your step daughters
21. ٱلَّـٰتِىallātīwho
22. فِىfī(are) in
23. حُجُورِكُمḥujūrikumyour guardianship
24. مِّنminof
25. نِّسَآئِكُمُnisāikumuyour women
26. ٱلَّـٰتِىallātīwhom
27. دَخَلْتُمdakhaltumyou had relations
28. بِهِنَّbihinnawith them
29. فَإِنfa-inbut if
30. لَّمْlamnot
31. تَكُونُوا۟takūnūyou had
32. دَخَلْتُمdakhaltumrelations
33. بِهِنَّbihinnawith them
34. فَلَاfalāthen (there is) no
35. جُنَاحَjunāḥasin
36. عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon you
37. وَحَلَـٰٓئِلُwaḥalāiluAnd wives
38. أَبْنَآئِكُمُabnāikumu(of) your sons
39. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
40. مِنْmin(are) from
41. أَصْلَـٰبِكُمْaṣlābikumyour loins
42. وَأَنwa-anand that
43. تَجْمَعُوا۟tajmaʿūyou gather together
44. بَيْنَbayna[between]
45. ٱلْأُخْتَيْنِl-ukh'taynitwo sisters
46. إِلَّاillāexcept
47. مَاmāwhat
48. قَدْqadhas
49. سَلَفَ ۗsalafapassed before
50. إِنَّinnaIndeed
51. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
52. كَانَkānais
53. غَفُورًۭاghafūranOft-Forgiving
54. رَّحِيمًۭاraḥīmanMost-Merciful

۞ وَٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتُ مِنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ إِلَّا مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۖ كِتَـٰبَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ وَأُحِلَّ لَكُم مَّا وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكُمْ أَن تَبْتَغُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِكُم مُّحْصِنِينَ غَيْرَ مُسَـٰفِحِينَ ۚ فَمَا ٱسْتَمْتَعْتُم بِهِۦ مِنْهُنَّ فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةً ۚ وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِيمَا تَرَٰضَيْتُم بِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْفَرِيضَةِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

Transliteration wal-muḥ'ṣanātu mina l-nisāi illā mā malakat aymānukum kitāba l-lahi ʿalaykum wa-uḥilla lakum mā warāa dhālikum an tabtaghū bi-amwālikum muḥ'ṣinīna ghayra musāfiḥīna famā is'tamtaʿtum bihi min'hunna faātūhunna ujūrahunna farīḍatan walā junāḥa ʿalaykum fīmā tarāḍaytum bihi min baʿdi l-farīḍati inna l-laha kāna ʿalīman ḥakīman

English And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess. [This is] the decree of Allāh upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due compensation as an obligation. And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.

1. ۞ وَٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتُwal-muḥ'ṣanātuAnd (prohibited are) the ones who are married
2. مِنَminaof
3. ٱلنِّسَآءِl-nisāithe women
4. إِلَّاillāexcept
5. مَاmāwhom
6. مَلَكَتْmalakatyou possess
7. أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۖaymānukumrightfully
8. كِتَـٰبَkitābaDecree
9. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
10. عَلَيْكُمْ ۚʿalaykumupon you
11. وَأُحِلَّwa-uḥillaAnd are lawful
12. لَكُمlakumto you
13. مَّاmāwhat
14. وَرَآءَwarāa(is) beyond
15. ذَٰلِكُمْdhālikumthat
16. أَنanthat
17. تَبْتَغُوا۟tabtaghūyou seek
18. بِأَمْوَٰلِكُمbi-amwālikumwith your wealth
19. مُّحْصِنِينَmuḥ'ṣinīnadesiring to be chaste
20. غَيْرَghayranot
21. مُسَـٰفِحِينَ ۚmusāfiḥīna(to be) lustful
22. فَمَاfamāSo what
23. ٱسْتَمْتَعْتُمis'tamtaʿtumyou benefit[ed]
24. بِهِۦbihiof it
25. مِنْهُنَّmin'hunnafrom them
26. فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّfaātūhunnaso you give them
27. أُجُورَهُنَّujūrahunnatheir bridal due
28. فَرِيضَةًۭ ۚfarīḍatan(as) an obligation
29. وَلَاwalāAnd (there is) no
30. جُنَاحَjunāḥasin
31. عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon you
32. فِيمَاfīmāconcerning what
33. تَرَٰضَيْتُمtarāḍaytumyou mutually agree
34. بِهِۦbihiof it
35. مِنۢminfrom
36. بَعْدِbaʿdibeyond
37. ٱلْفَرِيضَةِ ۚl-farīḍatithe obligation
38. إِنَّinnaIndeed
39. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
40. كَانَkānais
41. عَلِيمًاʿalīmanAll-Knowing
42. حَكِيمًۭاḥakīmanAll-Wise

وَمَن لَّمْ يَسْتَطِعْ مِنكُمْ طَوْلًا أَن يَنكِحَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ فَمِن مَّا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُم مِّن فَتَيَـٰتِكُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِيمَـٰنِكُم ۚ بَعْضُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْضٍ ۚ فَٱنكِحُوهُنَّ بِإِذْنِ أَهْلِهِنَّ وَءَاتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ مُحْصَنَـٰتٍ غَيْرَ مُسَـٰفِحَـٰتٍ وَلَا مُتَّخِذَٰتِ أَخْدَانٍ ۚ فَإِذَآ أُحْصِنَّ فَإِنْ أَتَيْنَ بِفَـٰحِشَةٍ فَعَلَيْهِنَّ نِصْفُ مَا عَلَى ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِىَ ٱلْعَنَتَ مِنكُمْ ۚ وَأَن تَصْبِرُوا۟ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Transliteration waman lam yastaṭiʿ minkum ṭawlan an yankiḥa l-muḥ'ṣanāti l-mu'mināti famin mā malakat aymānukum min fatayātikumu l-mu'mināti wal-lahu aʿlamu biīmānikum baʿḍukum min baʿḍin fa-inkiḥūhunna bi-idh'ni ahlihinna waātūhunna ujūrahunna bil-maʿrūfi muḥ'ṣanātin ghayra musāfiḥātin walā muttakhidhāti akhdānin fa-idhā uḥ'ṣinna fa-in atayna bifāḥishatin faʿalayhinna niṣ'fu mā ʿalā l-muḥ'ṣanāti mina l-ʿadhābi dhālika liman khashiya l-ʿanata minkum wa-an taṣbirū khayrun lakum wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmun

English And whoever among you cannot [find] the means to marry free, believing women, then [he may marry] from those whom your right hands possess of believing slave girls. And Allāh is most knowing about your faith. You [believers] are of one another. So marry them with the permission of their people and give them their due compensation [i.e., mahr] according to what is acceptable. [They should be] chaste, neither [of] those who commit unlawful intercourse randomly nor those who take [secret] lovers. But once they are sheltered in marriage, if they should commit adultery, then for them is half the punishment for free [unmarried] women. This [allowance] is for him among you who fears affliction [i.e., sin], but to be patient is better for you. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

1. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
2. لَّمْlam(is) not
3. يَسْتَطِعْyastaṭiʿable to
4. مِنكُمْminkumamong you
5. طَوْلًاṭawlanafford
6. أَنanto
7. يَنكِحَyankiḥamarry
8. ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِl-muḥ'ṣanātithe free chaste
9. ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِl-mu'mināti[the] believing women
10. فَمِنfaminthen (marry) from
11. مَّاmāwhat
12. مَلَكَتْmalakatpossess[ed]
13. أَيْمَـٰنُكُمaymānukumyour right hands
14. مِّنminof
15. فَتَيَـٰتِكُمُfatayātikumuyour slave girls
16. ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۚl-mu'mināti(of) the believers
17. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
18. أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
19. بِإِيمَـٰنِكُم ۚbiīmānikumabout your faith
20. بَعْضُكُمbaʿḍukumYou
21. مِّنۢmin(are) from
22. بَعْضٍۢ ۚbaʿḍin(one) another
23. فَٱنكِحُوهُنَّfa-inkiḥūhunnaSo marry them
24. بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niwith (the) permission
25. أَهْلِهِنَّahlihinna(of) their family
26. وَءَاتُوهُنَّwaātūhunnaand give them
27. أُجُورَهُنَّujūrahunnatheir bridal due
28. بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِbil-maʿrūfiin a fair manner
29. مُحْصَنَـٰتٍmuḥ'ṣanātin(They should be) chaste
30. غَيْرَghayranot
31. مُسَـٰفِحَـٰتٍۢmusāfiḥātinthose who commit immorality
32. وَلَاwalāand not
33. مُتَّخِذَٰتِmuttakhidhātithose who take
34. أَخْدَانٍۢ ۚakhdāninsecret lovers
35. فَإِذَآfa-idhāThen when
36. أُحْصِنَّuḥ'ṣinnathey are married
37. فَإِنْfa-inand if
38. أَتَيْنَataynathey commit
39. بِفَـٰحِشَةٍۢbifāḥishatinadultery
40. فَعَلَيْهِنَّfaʿalayhinnathen for them
41. نِصْفُniṣ'fu(is) half
42. مَاmā(of) what
43. عَلَىʿalā(is) on
44. ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِl-muḥ'ṣanātithe free chaste women
45. مِنَminaof
46. ٱلْعَذَابِ ۚl-ʿadhābithe punishment
47. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
48. لِمَنْliman(is) for whoever
49. خَشِىَkhashiyafears
50. ٱلْعَنَتَl-ʿanatacommitting sin
51. مِنكُمْ ۚminkumamong you
52. وَأَنwa-anand that
53. تَصْبِرُوا۟taṣbirūyou be patient
54. خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) better
55. لَّكُمْ ۗlakumfor you
56. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
57. غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
58. رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ سُنَنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَيَتُوبَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

Transliteration yurīdu l-lahu liyubayyina lakum wayahdiyakum sunana alladhīna min qablikum wayatūba ʿalaykum wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun

English Allāh wants to make clear to you [the lawful from the unlawful] and guide you to the [good] practices of those before you and to accept your repentance. And Allāh is Knowing and Wise.

1. يُرِيدُyurīduWishes
2. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
3. لِيُبَيِّنَliyubayyinato make clear
4. لَكُمْlakumto you
5. وَيَهْدِيَكُمْwayahdiyakumand to guide you
6. سُنَنَsunana(to) ways
7. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those
8. مِنminfrom
9. قَبْلِكُمْqablikumbefore you
10. وَيَتُوبَwayatūbaand (to) accept repentance
11. عَلَيْكُمْ ۗʿalaykumfrom you
12. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
13. عَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knowing
14. حَكِيمٌۭḥakīmunAll-Wise

وَٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتُوبَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَيُرِيدُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَّبِعُونَ ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ أَن تَمِيلُوا۟ مَيْلًا عَظِيمًا

Transliteration wal-lahu yurīdu an yatūba ʿalaykum wayurīdu alladhīna yattabiʿūna l-shahawāti an tamīlū maylan ʿaẓīman

English Allāh wants to accept your repentance, but those who follow [their] passions want you to digress [into] a great deviation.

1. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
2. يُرِيدُyurīduwishes
3. أَنanto
4. يَتُوبَyatūbaaccept repentance
5. عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumfrom you
6. وَيُرِيدُwayurīdubut wish
7. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
8. يَتَّبِعُونَyattabiʿūnafollow
9. ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِl-shahawātithe passions
10. أَنanthat
11. تَمِيلُوا۟tamīlūyou deviate
12. مَيْلًاmaylan(into) a deviation
13. عَظِيمًۭاʿaẓīmangreat

يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُخَفِّفَ عَنكُمْ ۚ وَخُلِقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ ضَعِيفًا

Transliteration yurīdu l-lahu an yukhaffifa ʿankum wakhuliqa l-insānu ḍaʿīfan

English And Allāh wants to lighten for you [your difficulties]; and mankind was created weak.

1. يُرِيدُyurīduWishes
2. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
3. أَنanto
4. يُخَفِّفَyukhaffifalighten
5. عَنكُمْ ۚʿankumfor you
6. وَخُلِقَwakhuliqaand was created
7. ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānuthe mankind
8. ضَعِيفًۭاḍaʿīfanweak

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَأْكُلُوٓا۟ أَمْوَٰلَكُم بَيْنَكُم بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ إِلَّآ أَن تَكُونَ تِجَـٰرَةً عَن تَرَاضٍ مِّنكُمْ ۚ وَلَا تَقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا

Transliteration yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā takulū amwālakum baynakum bil-bāṭili illā an takūna tijāratan ʿan tarāḍin minkum walā taqtulū anfusakum inna l-laha kāna bikum raḥīman

English O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allāh is to you ever Merciful.

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
3. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
4. لَاlā(Do) not
5. تَأْكُلُوٓا۟takulūeat
6. أَمْوَٰلَكُمamwālakumyour wealth
7. بَيْنَكُمbaynakumbetween yourselves
8. بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِbil-bāṭiliunjustly
9. إِلَّآillāBut
10. أَنanthat
11. تَكُونَtakūna(there) be
12. تِجَـٰرَةًtijāratanbusiness
13. عَنʿanon
14. تَرَاضٍۢtarāḍinmutual consent
15. مِّنكُمْ ۚminkumamong you
16. وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
17. تَقْتُلُوٓا۟taqtulūkill
18. أَنفُسَكُمْ ۚanfusakumyourselves
19. إِنَّinnaIndeed
20. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
21. كَانَkānais
22. بِكُمْbikumto you
23. رَحِيمًۭاraḥīmanMost Merciful

وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ عُدْوَٰنًا وَظُلْمًا فَسَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِ نَارًا ۚ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًا

Transliteration waman yafʿal dhālika ʿud'wānan waẓul'man fasawfa nuṣ'līhi nāran wakāna dhālika ʿalā l-lahi yasīran

English And whoever does that in aggression and injustice - then We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allāh, is [always] easy.

1. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
2. يَفْعَلْyafʿaldoes
3. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
4. عُدْوَٰنًۭاʿud'wānan(in) aggression
5. وَظُلْمًۭاwaẓul'manand injustice
6. فَسَوْفَfasawfathen soon
7. نُصْلِيهِnuṣ'līhiWe (will) cast him
8. نَارًۭا ۚnāran(into) a Fire
9. وَكَانَwakānaAnd is
10. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
11. عَلَىʿalāfor
12. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
13. يَسِيرًاyasīraneasy

إِن تَجْتَنِبُوا۟ كَبَآئِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَنُدْخِلْكُم مُّدْخَلًا كَرِيمًا

Transliteration in tajtanibū kabāira mā tun'hawna ʿanhu nukaffir ʿankum sayyiātikum wanud'khil'kum mud'khalan karīman

English If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins and admit you to a noble entrance [into Paradise].

1. إِنinIf
2. تَجْتَنِبُوا۟tajtanibūyou avoid
3. كَبَآئِرَkabāiragreat (sins)
4. مَاmā(of) what
5. تُنْهَوْنَtun'hawnayou are forbidden
6. عَنْهُʿanhufrom [it]
7. نُكَفِّرْnukaffirWe will remove
8. عَنكُمْʿankumfrom you
9. سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْsayyiātikumyour evil deeds
10. وَنُدْخِلْكُمwanud'khil'kumand We will admit you
11. مُّدْخَلًۭاmud'khalan(to) an entrance
12. كَرِيمًۭاkarīmannoble

وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا۟ مَا فَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ لِّلرِّجَالِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا ٱكْتَسَبُوا۟ ۖ وَلِلنِّسَآءِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا ٱكْتَسَبْنَ ۚ وَسْـَٔلُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمًا

Transliteration walā tatamannaw mā faḍḍala l-lahu bihi baʿḍakum ʿalā baʿḍin lilrrijāli naṣībun mimmā ik'tasabū walilnnisāi naṣībun mimmā ik'tasabna wasalū l-laha min faḍlihi inna l-laha kāna bikulli shayin ʿalīman

English And do not wish for that by which Allāh has made some of you exceed others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned. And ask Allāh of His bounty. Indeed Allāh is ever, of all things, Knowing.

1. وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
2. تَتَمَنَّوْا۟tatamannawcovet
3. مَاmāwhat
4. فَضَّلَfaḍḍala(has) bestowed
5. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
6. بِهِۦbihi[with it]
7. بَعْضَكُمْbaʿḍakumsome of you
8. عَلَىٰʿalāover
9. بَعْضٍۢ ۚbaʿḍinothers
10. لِّلرِّجَالِlilrrijāliFor men
11. نَصِيبٌۭnaṣībun(is) a share
12. مِّمَّاmimmāof what
13. ٱكْتَسَبُوا۟ ۖik'tasabūthey earned
14. وَلِلنِّسَآءِwalilnnisāiand for women
15. نَصِيبٌۭnaṣībun(is) a share
16. مِّمَّاmimmāof what
17. ٱكْتَسَبْنَ ۚik'tasabnathey earned
18. وَسْـَٔلُوا۟wasalūAnd ask
19. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
20. مِنminof
21. فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۗfaḍlihiHis bounty
22. إِنَّinnaIndeed
23. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
24. كَانَkānais
25. بِكُلِّbikulliof every
26. شَىْءٍshayinthing
27. عَلِيمًۭاʿalīmanAll-Knower

وَلِكُلٍّ جَعَلْنَا مَوَٰلِىَ مِمَّا تَرَكَ ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ عَقَدَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ فَـَٔاتُوهُمْ نَصِيبَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدًا

Transliteration walikullin jaʿalnā mawāliya mimmā taraka l-wālidāni wal-aqrabūna wa-alladhīna ʿaqadat aymānukum faātūhum naṣībahum inna l-laha kāna ʿalā kulli shayin shahīdan

English And for all, We have made heirs to what is left by parents and relatives. And to those whom your oaths have bound [to you] - give them their share. Indeed Allāh is ever, over all things, a Witness.

1. وَلِكُلٍّۢwalikullinAnd for all
2. جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe (have) made
3. مَوَٰلِىَmawāliyaheirs
4. مِمَّاmimmāof what
5. تَرَكَtaraka(is) left
6. ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِl-wālidāni(by) the parents
7. وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَ ۚwal-aqrabūnaand the relatives
8. وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whom
9. عَقَدَتْʿaqadatpledged
10. أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْaymānukumyour right hands
11. فَـَٔاتُوهُمْfaātūhumthen give them
12. نَصِيبَهُمْ ۚnaṣībahumtheir share
13. إِنَّinnaIndeed
14. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
15. كَانَkānais
16. عَلَىٰʿalāover
17. كُلِّkullievery
18. شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
19. شَهِيدًاshahīdana Witness

ٱلرِّجَالُ قَوَّٰمُونَ عَلَى ٱلنِّسَآءِ بِمَا فَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَبِمَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ ۚ فَٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ قَـٰنِتَـٰتٌ حَـٰفِظَـٰتٌ لِّلْغَيْبِ بِمَا حَفِظَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَٱلَّـٰتِى تَخَافُونَ نُشُوزَهُنَّ فَعِظُوهُنَّ وَٱهْجُرُوهُنَّ فِى ٱلْمَضَاجِعِ وَٱضْرِبُوهُنَّ ۖ فَإِنْ أَطَعْنَكُمْ فَلَا تَبْغُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ سَبِيلًا ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيًّا كَبِيرًا

Transliteration al-rijālu qawwāmūna ʿalā l-nisāi bimā faḍḍala l-lahu baʿḍahum ʿalā baʿḍin wabimā anfaqū min amwālihim fal-ṣāliḥātu qānitātun ḥāfiẓātun lil'ghaybi bimā ḥafiẓa l-lahu wa-allātī takhāfūna nushūzahunna faʿiẓūhunna wa-uh'jurūhunna fī l-maḍājiʿi wa-iḍ'ribūhunna fa-in aṭaʿnakum falā tabghū ʿalayhinna sabīlan inna l-laha kāna ʿaliyyan kabīran

English Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allāh has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allāh would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them [lightly]. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allāh is ever Exalted and Grand.

1. ٱلرِّجَالُal-rijālu[The] men
2. قَوَّٰمُونَqawwāmūna(are) protectors
3. عَلَىʿalāof
4. ٱلنِّسَآءِl-nisāithe women
5. بِمَاbimābecause
6. فَضَّلَfaḍḍala(has) bestowed
7. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
8. بَعْضَهُمْbaʿḍahumsome of them
9. عَلَىٰʿalāover
10. بَعْضٍۢbaʿḍinothers
11. وَبِمَآwabimāand because
12. أَنفَقُوا۟anfaqūthey spend
13. مِنْminfrom
14. أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ ۚamwālihimtheir wealth
15. فَٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُfal-ṣāliḥātuSo the righteous women
16. قَـٰنِتَـٰتٌqānitātun(are) obedient
17. حَـٰفِظَـٰتٌۭḥāfiẓātunguarding
18. لِّلْغَيْبِlil'ghaybiin the unseen
19. بِمَاbimāthat which
20. حَفِظَḥafiẓa(orders) them to guard
21. ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahu(by) Allah
22. وَٱلَّـٰتِىwa-allātīAnd those (from) whom
23. تَخَافُونَtakhāfūnayou fear
24. نُشُوزَهُنَّnushūzahunnatheir ill-conduct
25. فَعِظُوهُنَّfaʿiẓūhunnathen advise them
26. وَٱهْجُرُوهُنَّwa-uh'jurūhunnaand forsake them
27. فِىfīin
28. ٱلْمَضَاجِعِl-maḍājiʿithe bed
29. وَٱضْرِبُوهُنَّ ۖwa-iḍ'ribūhunnaand [finally] strike them
30. فَإِنْfa-inThen if
31. أَطَعْنَكُمْaṭaʿnakumthey obey you
32. فَلَاfalāthen (do) not
33. تَبْغُوا۟tabghūseek
34. عَلَيْهِنَّʿalayhinnaagainst them
35. سَبِيلًا ۗsabīlana way
36. إِنَّinnaIndeed
37. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
38. كَانَkānais
39. عَلِيًّۭاʿaliyyanMost High
40. كَبِيرًۭاkabīranMost Great

وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ شِقَاقَ بَيْنِهِمَا فَٱبْعَثُوا۟ حَكَمًا مِّنْ أَهْلِهِۦ وَحَكَمًا مِّنْ أَهْلِهَآ إِن يُرِيدَآ إِصْلَـٰحًا يُوَفِّقِ ٱللَّهُ بَيْنَهُمَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا خَبِيرًا

Transliteration wa-in khif'tum shiqāqa baynihimā fa-ib'ʿathū ḥakaman min ahlihi waḥakaman min ahlihā in yurīdā iṣ'lāḥan yuwaffiqi l-lahu baynahumā inna l-laha kāna ʿalīman khabīran

English And if you fear dissension between the two, send an arbitrator from his people and an arbitrator from her people. If they both desire reconciliation, Allāh will cause it between them. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Aware.

1. وَإِنْwa-inAnd if
2. خِفْتُمْkhif'tumyou fear
3. شِقَاقَshiqāqaa dissension
4. بَيْنِهِمَاbaynihimābetween (the) two of them
5. فَٱبْعَثُوا۟fa-ib'ʿathūthen send
6. حَكَمًۭاḥakamanan arbitrator
7. مِّنْminfrom
8. أَهْلِهِۦahlihihis family
9. وَحَكَمًۭاwaḥakamanand an arbitrator
10. مِّنْminfrom
11. أَهْلِهَآahlihāher family
12. إِنinIf
13. يُرِيدَآyurīdāthey both wish
14. إِصْلَـٰحًۭاiṣ'lāḥanreconciliation
15. يُوَفِّقِyuwaffiqiwill cause reconciliation
16. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
17. بَيْنَهُمَآ ۗbaynahumābetween both of them
18. إِنَّinnaIndeed
19. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
20. كَانَkānais
21. عَلِيمًاʿalīmanAll-Knower
22. خَبِيرًۭاkhabīranAll-Aware

۞ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُشْرِكُوا۟ بِهِۦ شَيْـًٔا ۖ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَـٰنًا وَبِذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ وَٱلْجَارِ ذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْجَارِ ٱلْجُنُبِ وَٱلصَّاحِبِ بِٱلْجَنۢبِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ مَن كَانَ مُخْتَالًا فَخُورًا

Transliteration wa-uʿ'budū l-laha walā tush'rikū bihi shayan wabil-wālidayni iḥ'sānan wabidhī l-qur'bā wal-yatāmā wal-masākīni wal-jāri dhī l-qur'bā wal-jāri l-junubi wal-ṣāḥibi bil-janbi wa-ib'ni l-sabīli wamā malakat aymānukum inna l-laha lā yuḥibbu man kāna mukh'tālan fakhūran

English Worship Allāh and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allāh does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful,

1. ۞ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟wa-uʿ'budūAnd worship
2. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
3. وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
4. تُشْرِكُوا۟tush'rikūassociate
5. بِهِۦbihiwith Him
6. شَيْـًۭٔا ۖshayananything
7. وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِwabil-wālidayniand to the parents
8. إِحْسَـٰنًۭاiḥ'sānan(do) good
9. وَبِذِىwabidhīand with
10. ٱلْقُرْبَىٰl-qur'bāthe relatives
11. وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰwal-yatāmāand the orphans
12. وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِwal-masākīniand the needy
13. وَٱلْجَارِwal-jāriand the neighbor
14. ذِىdhī(who is)
15. ٱلْقُرْبَىٰl-qur'bānear
16. وَٱلْجَارِwal-jāriand the neighbor
17. ٱلْجُنُبِl-junubi(who is) farther away
18. وَٱلصَّاحِبِwal-ṣāḥibiand the companion
19. بِٱلْجَنۢبِbil-janbiby your side
20. وَٱبْنِwa-ib'niand the
21. ٱلسَّبِيلِl-sabīlitraveler
22. وَمَاwamāand what
23. مَلَكَتْmalakatpossess[ed]
24. أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۗaymānukumyour right hands
25. إِنَّinnaIndeed
26. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
27. لَاlā(does) not
28. يُحِبُّyuḥibbulove
29. مَنman(the one) who
30. كَانَkānais
31. مُخْتَالًۭاmukh'tālan[a] proud
32. فَخُورًاfakhūran(and) [a] boastful

ٱلَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ وَيَأْمُرُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ بِٱلْبُخْلِ وَيَكْتُمُونَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا

Transliteration alladhīna yabkhalūna wayamurūna l-nāsa bil-bukh'li wayaktumūna mā ātāhumu l-lahu min faḍlihi wa-aʿtadnā lil'kāfirīna ʿadhāban muhīnan

English Who are stingy and enjoin upon [other] people stinginess and conceal what Allāh has given them of His bounty - and We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment -

1. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
2. يَبْخَلُونَyabkhalūnaare stingy
3. وَيَأْمُرُونَwayamurūnaand order
4. ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe people
5. بِٱلْبُخْلِbil-bukh'li[of] stinginess
6. وَيَكْتُمُونَwayaktumūnaand hide
7. مَآmāwhat
8. ءَاتَىٰهُمُātāhumu(has) given them
9. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
10. مِنminof
11. فَضْلِهِۦ ۗfaḍlihiHis Bounty
12. وَأَعْتَدْنَاwa-aʿtadnāand We (have) prepared
13. لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelievers
14. عَذَابًۭاʿadhābana punishment
15. مُّهِينًۭاmuhīnanhumiliating

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ رِئَآءَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۗ وَمَن يَكُنِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لَهُۥ قَرِينًا فَسَآءَ قَرِينًا

Transliteration wa-alladhīna yunfiqūna amwālahum riāa l-nāsi walā yu'minūna bil-lahi walā bil-yawmi l-ākhiri waman yakuni l-shayṭānu lahu qarīnan fasāa qarīnan

English And [also] those who spend of their wealth to be seen by the people and believe not in Allāh nor in the Last Day. And he to whom Satan is a companion - then evil is he as a companion.

1. وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
2. يُنفِقُونَyunfiqūnaspend
3. أَمْوَٰلَهُمْamwālahumtheir wealth
4. رِئَآءَriāato be seen
5. ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(by) the people
6. وَلَاwalāand not
7. يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe
8. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
9. وَلَاwalāand not
10. بِٱلْيَوْمِbil-yawmiin the Day
11. ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۗl-ākhirithe Last
12. وَمَنwamanand whoever
13. يَكُنِyakunihas
14. ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
15. لَهُۥlahufor him
16. قَرِينًۭاqarīnan(as) companion
17. فَسَآءَfasāathen evil
18. قَرِينًۭاqarīnan(is he as) a companion

وَمَاذَا عَلَيْهِمْ لَوْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَأَنفَقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِمْ عَلِيمًا

Transliteration wamādhā ʿalayhim law āmanū bil-lahi wal-yawmi l-ākhiri wa-anfaqū mimmā razaqahumu l-lahu wakāna l-lahu bihim ʿalīman

English And what [harm would come] upon them if they believed in Allāh and the Last Day and spent out of what Allāh provided for them? And Allāh is ever, about them, Knowing.

1. وَمَاذَاwamādhāAnd what
2. عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim(is) against them
3. لَوْlawif
4. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūthey believed
5. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
6. وَٱلْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Day
7. ٱلْـَٔاخِرِl-ākhirithe Last
8. وَأَنفَقُوا۟wa-anfaqūand spent
9. مِمَّاmimmāfrom what
10. رَزَقَهُمُrazaqahumu(has) provided them
11. ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah
12. وَكَانَwakānaAnd is
13. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
14. بِهِمْbihimabout them
15. عَلِيمًاʿalīmanAll-Knower

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ ۖ وَإِن تَكُ حَسَنَةً يُضَـٰعِفْهَا وَيُؤْتِ مِن لَّدُنْهُ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

Transliteration inna l-laha lā yaẓlimu mith'qāla dharratin wa-in taku ḥasanatan yuḍāʿif'hā wayu'ti min ladun'hu ajran ʿaẓīman

English Indeed, Allāh does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
3. لَاlā(does) not
4. يَظْلِمُyaẓlimuwrong
5. مِثْقَالَmith'qāla(as much as) weight
6. ذَرَّةٍۢ ۖdharratin(of) an atom
7. وَإِنwa-inAnd if
8. تَكُtakuthere is
9. حَسَنَةًۭḥasanatana good
10. يُضَـٰعِفْهَاyuḍāʿif'hāHe doubles it
11. وَيُؤْتِwayu'tiand gives
12. مِنminfrom
13. لَّدُنْهُladun'hunear Him
14. أَجْرًاajrana reward
15. عَظِيمًۭاʿaẓīmangreat

فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةٍۭ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ شَهِيدًا

Transliteration fakayfa idhā ji'nā min kulli ummatin bishahīdin waji'nā bika ʿalā hāulāi shahīdan

English So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and We bring you, [O Muḥammad], against these [people] as a witness?

1. فَكَيْفَfakayfaSo how (will it be)
2. إِذَاidhāwhen
3. جِئْنَاji'nāWe bring
4. مِنminfrom
5. كُلِّkullievery
6. أُمَّةٍۭummatinnation
7. بِشَهِيدٍۢbishahīdina witness
8. وَجِئْنَاwaji'nāand We bring
9. بِكَbikayou
10. عَلَىٰʿalāagainst
11. هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese (people)
12. شَهِيدًۭاshahīdan(as) a witness

يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَعَصَوُا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ لَوْ تُسَوَّىٰ بِهِمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَلَا يَكْتُمُونَ ٱللَّهَ حَدِيثًا

Transliteration yawma-idhin yawaddu alladhīna kafarū waʿaṣawū l-rasūla law tusawwā bihimu l-arḍu walā yaktumūna l-laha ḥadīthan

English That Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish they could be covered by the earth. And they will not conceal from Allāh a [single] statement.

1. يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin(On) that Day
2. يَوَدُّyawadduwill wish
3. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
4. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
5. وَعَصَوُا۟waʿaṣawūand disobeyed
6. ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
7. لَوْlawif
8. تُسَوَّىٰtusawwāwas leveled
9. بِهِمُbihimuwith them
10. ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earth
11. وَلَاwalāand not
12. يَكْتُمُونَyaktumūnathey will (be able to) hide
13. ٱللَّهَl-laha(from) Allah
14. حَدِيثًۭاḥadīthan(any) statement

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنتُمْ سُكَـٰرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَعْلَمُوا۟ مَا تَقُولُونَ وَلَا جُنُبًا إِلَّا عَابِرِى سَبِيلٍ حَتَّىٰ تَغْتَسِلُوا۟ ۚ وَإِن كُنتُم مَّرْضَىٰٓ أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ أَوْ جَآءَ أَحَدٌ مِّنكُم مِّنَ ٱلْغَآئِطِ أَوْ لَـٰمَسْتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا۟ مَآءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا۟ صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَٱمْسَحُوا۟ بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا غَفُورًا

Transliteration yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā taqrabū l-ṣalata wa-antum sukārā ḥattā taʿlamū mā taqūlūna walā junuban illā ʿābirī sabīlin ḥattā taghtasilū wa-in kuntum marḍā aw ʿalā safarin aw jāa aḥadun minkum mina l-ghāiṭi aw lāmastumu l-nisāa falam tajidū māan fatayammamū ṣaʿīdan ṭayyiban fa-im'saḥū biwujūhikum wa-aydīkum inna l-laha kāna ʿafuwwan ghafūran

English O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janābah, except those passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women [i.e., had sexual intercourse] and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it]. Indeed, Allāh is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
3. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
4. لَاlā(Do) not
5. تَقْرَبُوا۟taqrabūgo near
6. ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
7. وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
8. سُكَـٰرَىٰsukārā(are) intoxicated
9. حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
10. تَعْلَمُوا۟taʿlamūyou know
11. مَاmāwhat
12. تَقُولُونَtaqūlūnayou are saying
13. وَلَاwalāand not
14. جُنُبًاjunuban(when you are) impure
15. إِلَّاillāexcept
16. عَابِرِىʿābirī(when) passing
17. سَبِيلٍsabīlin(through) a way
18. حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
19. تَغْتَسِلُوا۟ ۚtaghtasilūyou have bathed
20. وَإِنwa-inAnd if
21. كُنتُمkuntumyou are
22. مَّرْضَىٰٓmarḍāill
23. أَوْawor
24. عَلَىٰʿalāon
25. سَفَرٍsafarina journey
26. أَوْawor
27. جَآءَjāacame
28. أَحَدٌۭaḥadunone
29. مِّنكُمminkumof you
30. مِّنَminafrom
31. ٱلْغَآئِطِl-ghāiṭithe toilet
32. أَوْawor
33. لَـٰمَسْتُمُlāmastumuyou have touched
34. ٱلنِّسَآءَl-nisāathe women
35. فَلَمْfalamand not
36. تَجِدُوا۟tajidūyou find
37. مَآءًۭmāanwater
38. فَتَيَمَّمُوا۟fatayammamūthen do tayammum
39. صَعِيدًۭاṣaʿīdan(with) earth
40. طَيِّبًۭاṭayyibanclean
41. فَٱمْسَحُوا۟fa-im'saḥūand wipe (with it)
42. بِوُجُوهِكُمْbiwujūhikumyour faces
43. وَأَيْدِيكُمْ ۗwa-aydīkumand your hands
44. إِنَّinnaIndeed
45. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
46. كَانَkānais
47. عَفُوًّاʿafuwwanOft-Pardoning
48. غَفُورًاghafūranOft-Forgiving

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ يَشْتَرُونَ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةَ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن تَضِلُّوا۟ ٱلسَّبِيلَ

Transliteration alam tara ilā alladhīna ūtū naṣīban mina l-kitābi yashtarūna l-ḍalālata wayurīdūna an taḍillū l-sabīla

English Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, purchasing error [in exchange for it] and wishing you would lose the way?

1. أَلَمْalamDid not
2. تَرَtarayou see
3. إِلَىilā[towards]
4. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
5. أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
6. نَصِيبًۭاnaṣībana portion
7. مِّنَminaof
8. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe Book
9. يَشْتَرُونَyashtarūnapurchasing
10. ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةَl-ḍalālata[the] error
11. وَيُرِيدُونَwayurīdūnaand wishing
12. أَنanthat
13. تَضِلُّوا۟taḍillūyou stray
14. ٱلسَّبِيلَl-sabīla(from) the way

وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِأَعْدَآئِكُمْ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ نَصِيرًا

Transliteration wal-lahu aʿlamu bi-aʿdāikum wakafā bil-lahi waliyyan wakafā bil-lahi naṣīran

English And Allāh is most knowing of your enemies; and sufficient is Allāh as an ally, and sufficient is Allāh as a helper.

1. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
2. أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows better
3. بِأَعْدَآئِكُمْ ۚbi-aʿdāikumabout your enemies
4. وَكَفَىٰwakafāand (is) sufficient
5. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiAllah
6. وَلِيًّۭاwaliyyan(as) a Protector
7. وَكَفَىٰwakafāand sufficient
8. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahi(is) Allah
9. نَصِيرًۭاnaṣīran(as) a Helper

مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ يُحَرِّفُونَ ٱلْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ وَيَقُولُونَ سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا وَٱسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ وَرَٰعِنَا لَيًّۢا بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ وَطَعْنًا فِى ٱلدِّينِ ۚ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا وَٱسْمَعْ وَٱنظُرْنَا لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَأَقْوَمَ وَلَـٰكِن لَّعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

Transliteration mina alladhīna hādū yuḥarrifūna l-kalima ʿan mawāḍiʿihi wayaqūlūna samiʿ'nā waʿaṣaynā wa-is'maʿ ghayra mus'maʿin warāʿinā layyan bi-alsinatihim waṭaʿnan fī l-dīni walaw annahum qālū samiʿ'nā wa-aṭaʿnā wa-is'maʿ wa-unẓur'nā lakāna khayran lahum wa-aqwama walākin laʿanahumu l-lahu bikuf'rihim falā yu'minūna illā qalīlan

English Among the Jews are those who distort words from their [proper] places [i.e., usages] and say, "We hear and disobey" and "Hear but be not heard" and "Rāʿinā," twisting their tongues and defaming the religion. And if they had said [instead], "We hear and obey" and "Wait for us [to understand]," it would have been better for them and more suitable. But Allāh has cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few.

1. مِّنَminaOf
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. هَادُوا۟hādūare Jews
4. يُحَرِّفُونَyuḥarrifūnathey distort
5. ٱلْكَلِمَl-kalimathe words
6. عَنʿanfrom
7. مَّوَاضِعِهِۦmawāḍiʿihitheir places
8. وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they say
9. سَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāWe hear[d]
10. وَعَصَيْنَاwaʿaṣaynāand we disobey[ed]
11. وَٱسْمَعْwa-is'maʿand "Hear
12. غَيْرَghayranot
13. مُسْمَعٍۢmus'maʿinto be heard
14. وَرَٰعِنَاwarāʿināand "Raina
15. لَيًّۢاlayyantwisting
16. بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْbi-alsinatihim[with] their tongues
17. وَطَعْنًۭاwaṭaʿnanand defaming
18. فِىfī[in]
19. ٱلدِّينِ ۚl-dīnithe religion
20. وَلَوْwalawAnd if
21. أَنَّهُمْannahum[that] they
22. قَالُوا۟qālū(had) said
23. سَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāWe hear[d]
24. وَأَطَعْنَاwa-aṭaʿnāand we obey[ed]
25. وَٱسْمَعْwa-is'maʿand "Hear
26. وَٱنظُرْنَاwa-unẓur'nāand look (at) us
27. لَكَانَlakānasurely it (would) have been
28. خَيْرًۭاkhayranbetter
29. لَّهُمْlahumfor them
30. وَأَقْوَمَwa-aqwamaand more suitable
31. وَلَـٰكِنwalākin[And] but
32. لَّعَنَهُمُlaʿanahumucursed them
33. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
34. بِكُفْرِهِمْbikuf'rihimfor their disbelief
35. فَلَاfalāso not
36. يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe
37. إِلَّاillāexcept
38. قَلِيلًۭاqalīlana few

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِمَا نَزَّلْنَا مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن نَّطْمِسَ وُجُوهًا فَنَرُدَّهَا عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَارِهَآ أَوْ نَلْعَنَهُمْ كَمَا لَعَنَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلسَّبْتِ ۚ وَكَانَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ مَفْعُولًا

Transliteration yāayyuhā alladhīna ūtū l-kitāba āminū bimā nazzalnā muṣaddiqan limā maʿakum min qabli an naṭmisa wujūhan fanaruddahā ʿalā adbārihā aw nalʿanahum kamā laʿannā aṣḥāba l-sabti wakāna amru l-lahi mafʿūlan

English O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down [to Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)], confirming that which is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them toward their backs or curse them as We cursed the sabbath-breakers. And ever is the matter [i.e., decree] of Allāh accomplished.

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
3. أُوتُوا۟ūtū(have) been given
4. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
5. ءَامِنُوا۟āminūbelieve
6. بِمَاbimāin what
7. نَزَّلْنَاnazzalnāWe (have) revealed
8. مُصَدِّقًۭاmuṣaddiqanconfirming
9. لِّمَاlimāwhat is
10. مَعَكُمmaʿakumwith you
11. مِّنminfrom
12. قَبْلِqablibefore
13. أَنan[that]
14. نَّطْمِسَnaṭmisaWe efface
15. وُجُوهًۭاwujūhanfaces
16. فَنَرُدَّهَاfanaruddahāand turn them
17. عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
18. أَدْبَارِهَآadbārihātheir backs
19. أَوْawor
20. نَلْعَنَهُمْnalʿanahumWe curse them
21. كَمَاkamāas
22. لَعَنَّآlaʿannāWe cursed
23. أَصْحَـٰبَaṣḥābacompanions
24. ٱلسَّبْتِ ۚl-sabti(of) the Sabbath
25. وَكَانَwakānaAnd is
26. أَمْرُamru(the) command
27. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
28. مَفْعُولًاmafʿūlan(always) executed

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدِ ٱفْتَرَىٰٓ إِثْمًا عَظِيمًا

Transliteration inna l-laha lā yaghfiru an yush'raka bihi wayaghfiru mā dūna dhālika liman yashāu waman yush'rik bil-lahi faqadi if'tarā ith'man ʿaẓīman

English Indeed, Allāh does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allāh has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
3. لَاlā(does) not
4. يَغْفِرُyaghfiruforgive
5. أَنanthat
6. يُشْرَكَyush'rakapartners be associated
7. بِهِۦbihiwith Him
8. وَيَغْفِرُwayaghfirubut He forgives
9. مَاmāfrom
10. دُونَdūnaother than
11. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
12. لِمَنlimanfor whom
13. يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
14. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
15. يُشْرِكْyush'rikassociates partners
16. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiwith Allah
17. فَقَدِfaqadithen surely
18. ٱفْتَرَىٰٓif'tarāhe has fabricated
19. إِثْمًاith'mana sin
20. عَظِيمًاʿaẓīmantremendous

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يُزَكُّونَ أَنفُسَهُم ۚ بَلِ ٱللَّهُ يُزَكِّى مَن يَشَآءُ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا

Transliteration alam tara ilā alladhīna yuzakkūna anfusahum bali l-lahu yuzakkī man yashāu walā yuẓ'lamūna fatīlan

English Have you not seen those who claim themselves to be pure? Rather, Allāh purifies whom He wills, and injustice is not done to them, [even] as much as a thread [inside a date seed].

1. أَلَمْalamDo not
2. تَرَtarayou see
3. إِلَىilā[towards]
4. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
5. يُزَكُّونَyuzakkūnaclaim purity
6. أَنفُسَهُم ۚanfusahum(for) themselves
7. بَلِbaliNay
8. ٱللَّهُl-lahu(it is) Allah
9. يُزَكِّىyuzakkīHe purifies
10. مَنmanwhom
11. يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
12. وَلَاwalāand not
13. يُظْلَمُونَyuẓ'lamūnathey will be wronged
14. فَتِيلًاfatīlan(even as much as) a hair on a date-seed

ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ ۖ وَكَفَىٰ بِهِۦٓ إِثْمًا مُّبِينًا

Transliteration unẓur kayfa yaftarūna ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba wakafā bihi ith'man mubīnan

English Look how they invent about Allāh untruth, and sufficient is that as a manifest sin.

1. ٱنظُرْunẓurSee
2. كَيْفَkayfahow
3. يَفْتَرُونَyaftarūnathey invent
4. عَلَىʿalāabout
5. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
6. ٱلْكَذِبَ ۖl-kadhiba[the] lie
7. وَكَفَىٰwakafāand sufficient
8. بِهِۦٓbihiis it
9. إِثْمًۭاith'man(as) a sin
10. مُّبِينًاmubīnanmanifest

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْجِبْتِ وَٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ أَهْدَىٰ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ سَبِيلًا

Transliteration alam tara ilā alladhīna ūtū naṣīban mina l-kitābi yu'minūna bil-jib'ti wal-ṭāghūti wayaqūlūna lilladhīna kafarū hāulāi ahdā mina alladhīna āmanū sabīlan

English Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, who believe in jibt [superstition] and ṭāghūt [false objects of worship] and say about the disbelievers, "These are better guided than the believers as to the way"?

1. أَلَمْalamDo not
2. تَرَtarayou see
3. إِلَىilā[towards]
4. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
5. أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
6. نَصِيبًۭاnaṣībana portion
7. مِّنَminaof
8. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe Book
9. يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnaThey believe
10. بِٱلْجِبْتِbil-jib'tiin the superstition
11. وَٱلطَّـٰغُوتِwal-ṭāghūtiand the false deities
12. وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they say
13. لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
14. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve[d]
15. هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāiThese
16. أَهْدَىٰahdā(are) better guided
17. مِنَminathan
18. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
19. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
20. سَبِيلًاsabīlan(as to the) way

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَمَن يَلْعَنِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ نَصِيرًا

Transliteration ulāika alladhīna laʿanahumu l-lahu waman yalʿani l-lahu falan tajida lahu naṣīran

English Those are the ones whom Allāh has cursed; and he whom Allāh curses - never will you find for him a helper.

1. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones
3. لَعَنَهُمُlaʿanahumu(who have been) cursed
4. ٱللَّهُ ۖl-lahu(by) Allah
5. وَمَنwamanand whoever
6. يَلْعَنِyalʿani(is) cursed
7. ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
8. فَلَنfalanthen never
9. تَجِدَtajidawill you find
10. لَهُۥlahufor him
11. نَصِيرًاnaṣīran(any) helper

أَمْ لَهُمْ نَصِيبٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُلْكِ فَإِذًا لَّا يُؤْتُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ نَقِيرًا

Transliteration am lahum naṣībun mina l-mul'ki fa-idhan lā yu'tūna l-nāsa naqīran

English Or have they a share of dominion? Then [if that were so], they would not give the people [even as much as] the speck on a date seed.

1. أَمْamOr
2. لَهُمْlahumfor them
3. نَصِيبٌۭnaṣībun(is) a share
4. مِّنَminaof
5. ٱلْمُلْكِl-mul'kithe Kingdom
6. فَإِذًۭاfa-idhanThen
7. لَّاlānot would
8. يُؤْتُونَyu'tūnathey give
9. ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe people
10. نَقِيرًاnaqīran(even as much as the) speck on a date seed

أَمْ يَحْسُدُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ عَلَىٰ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ ۖ فَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَآ ءَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مُّلْكًا عَظِيمًا

Transliteration am yaḥsudūna l-nāsa ʿalā mā ātāhumu l-lahu min faḍlihi faqad ātaynā āla ib'rāhīma l-kitāba wal-ḥik'mata waātaynāhum mul'kan ʿaẓīman

English Or do they envy people for what Allāh has given them of His bounty? But We had already given the family of Abraham the Scripture and wisdom and conferred upon them a great kingdom.

1. أَمْamOr
2. يَحْسُدُونَyaḥsudūnaare they jealous
3. ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa(of) the people
4. عَلَىٰʿalāfor
5. مَآmāwhat
6. ءَاتَىٰهُمُātāhumugave them
7. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
8. مِنminfrom
9. فَضْلِهِۦ ۖfaḍlihiHis Bounty
10. فَقَدْfaqadBut surely
11. ءَاتَيْنَآātaynāWe gave
12. ءَالَāla(the) family
13. إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahim
14. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
15. وَٱلْحِكْمَةَwal-ḥik'mataand [the] wisdom
16. وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمwaātaynāhumand [We] gave them
17. مُّلْكًاmul'kana kingdom
18. عَظِيمًۭاʿaẓīmangreat

فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ ءَامَنَ بِهِۦ وَمِنْهُم مَّن صَدَّ عَنْهُ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِجَهَنَّمَ سَعِيرًا

Transliteration famin'hum man āmana bihi wamin'hum man ṣadda ʿanhu wakafā bijahannama saʿīran

English And some among them believed in it, and some among them were averse to it. And sufficient is Hell as a blaze.

1. فَمِنْهُمfamin'humThen of them
2. مَّنْman(are some) who
3. ءَامَنَāmanabelieved
4. بِهِۦbihiin him
5. وَمِنْهُمwamin'humand of them
6. مَّنman(are some) who
7. صَدَّṣaddaturned away
8. عَنْهُ ۚʿanhufrom him
9. وَكَفَىٰwakafāand sufficient
10. بِجَهَنَّمَbijahannama(is) Hell
11. سَعِيرًاsaʿīran(as a) Blazing Fire

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا سَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِمْ نَارًا كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتْ جُلُودُهُم بَدَّلْنَـٰهُمْ جُلُودًا غَيْرَهَا لِيَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا

Transliteration inna alladhīna kafarū biāyātinā sawfa nuṣ'līhim nāran kullamā naḍijat julūduhum baddalnāhum julūdan ghayrahā liyadhūqū l-ʿadhāba inna l-laha kāna ʿazīzan ḥakīman

English Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a fire. Every time their skins are roasted through, We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allāh is ever Exalted in Might and Wise.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
4. بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināin Our Signs
5. سَوْفَsawfasoon
6. نُصْلِيهِمْnuṣ'līhimWe will burn them
7. نَارًۭاnāran(in) a Fire
8. كُلَّمَاkullamāEvery time
9. نَضِجَتْnaḍijatare roasted
10. جُلُودُهُمjulūduhumtheir skins
11. بَدَّلْنَـٰهُمْbaddalnāhumWe will change their
12. جُلُودًاjulūdanskins
13. غَيْرَهَاghayrahāfor other (than) that
14. لِيَذُوقُوا۟liyadhūqūso that they may taste
15. ٱلْعَذَابَ ۗl-ʿadhābathe punishment
16. إِنَّinnaIndeed
17. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
18. كَانَkānais
19. عَزِيزًاʿazīzanAll-Mighty
20. حَكِيمًۭاḥakīmanAll-Wise

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۖ لَّهُمْ فِيهَآ أَزْوَٰجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ ۖ وَنُدْخِلُهُمْ ظِلًّا ظَلِيلًا

Transliteration wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti sanud'khiluhum jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā abadan lahum fīhā azwājun muṭahharatun wanud'khiluhum ẓillan ẓalīlan

English But those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide forever. For them therein are purified spouses, and We will admit them to deepening shade.

1. وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
2. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
3. وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand did
4. ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātithe good deeds
5. سَنُدْخِلُهُمْsanud'khiluhumWe will admit them
6. جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(in) Gardens
7. تَجْرِىtajrīflows
8. مِنminfrom
9. تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
10. ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
11. خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnawill abide
12. فِيهَآfīhāin it
13. أَبَدًۭا ۖabadanforever
14. لَّهُمْlahumFor them
15. فِيهَآfīhāin it
16. أَزْوَٰجٌۭazwājun(are) spouses
17. مُّطَهَّرَةٌۭ ۖmuṭahharatunpure
18. وَنُدْخِلُهُمْwanud'khiluhumand We will admit them
19. ظِلًّۭاẓillan(in the) shade
20. ظَلِيلًاẓalīlanthick

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤَدُّوا۟ ٱلْأَمَـٰنَـٰتِ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهَا وَإِذَا حَكَمْتُم بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ أَن تَحْكُمُوا۟ بِٱلْعَدْلِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ نِعِمَّا يَعِظُكُم بِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا

Transliteration inna l-laha yamurukum an tu-addū l-amānāti ilā ahlihā wa-idhā ḥakamtum bayna l-nāsi an taḥkumū bil-ʿadli inna l-laha niʿimmā yaʿiẓukum bihi inna l-laha kāna samīʿan baṣīran

English Indeed, Allāh commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allāh instructs you. Indeed, Allāh is ever Hearing and Seeing.

1. ۞ إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
3. يَأْمُرُكُمْyamurukumorders you
4. أَنanto
5. تُؤَدُّوا۟tu-addūrender
6. ٱلْأَمَـٰنَـٰتِl-amānātithe trusts
7. إِلَىٰٓilāto
8. أَهْلِهَاahlihātheir owners
9. وَإِذَاwa-idhāand when
10. حَكَمْتُمḥakamtumyou judge
11. بَيْنَbaynabetween
12. ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe people
13. أَنanto
14. تَحْكُمُوا۟taḥkumūjudge
15. بِٱلْعَدْلِ ۚbil-ʿadliwith justice
16. إِنَّinnaIndeed
17. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
18. نِعِمَّاniʿimmāexcellently
19. يَعِظُكُمyaʿiẓukumadvises you
20. بِهِۦٓ ۗbihiwith it
21. إِنَّinnaIndeed
22. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
23. كَانَkānais
24. سَمِيعًۢاsamīʿanAll-Hearing
25. بَصِيرًۭاbaṣīranAll-Seeing

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ ۖ فَإِن تَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ فِى شَىْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا

Transliteration yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū aṭīʿū l-laha wa-aṭīʿū l-rasūla wa-ulī l-amri minkum fa-in tanāzaʿtum fī shayin faruddūhu ilā l-lahi wal-rasūli in kuntum tu'minūna bil-lahi wal-yawmi l-ākhiri dhālika khayrun wa-aḥsanu tawīlan

English O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allāh and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
3. ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
4. أَطِيعُوا۟aṭīʿūObey
5. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
6. وَأَطِيعُوا۟wa-aṭīʿūand obey
7. ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
8. وَأُو۟لِىwa-ulīand those
9. ٱلْأَمْرِl-amri(having) authority
10. مِنكُمْ ۖminkumamong you
11. فَإِنfa-inThen if
12. تَنَـٰزَعْتُمْtanāzaʿtumyou disagree
13. فِىfīin
14. شَىْءٍۢshayinanything
15. فَرُدُّوهُfaruddūhurefer it
16. إِلَىilāto
17. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
18. وَٱلرَّسُولِwal-rasūliand the Messenger
19. إِنinif
20. كُنتُمْkuntumyou
21. تُؤْمِنُونَtu'minūnabelieve
22. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
23. وَٱلْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Day
24. ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۚl-ākhiri[the] Last
25. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
26. خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) best
27. وَأَحْسَنُwa-aḥsanuand more suitable
28. تَأْوِيلًاtawīlan(for final) determination

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُمْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَحَاكَمُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَقَدْ أُمِرُوٓا۟ أَن يَكْفُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَيُرِيدُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَن يُضِلَّهُمْ ضَلَـٰلًۢا بَعِيدًا

Transliteration alam tara ilā alladhīna yazʿumūna annahum āmanū bimā unzila ilayka wamā unzila min qablika yurīdūna an yataḥākamū ilā l-ṭāghūti waqad umirū an yakfurū bihi wayurīdu l-shayṭānu an yuḍillahum ḍalālan baʿīdan

English Have you not seen those who claim to have believed in what was revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], and what was revealed before you? They wish to refer legislation to ṭāghūt, while they were commanded to reject it; and Satan wishes to lead them far astray.

1. أَلَمْalamDo not
2. تَرَtarayou see
3. إِلَىilā[towards]
4. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
5. يَزْعُمُونَyazʿumūnaclaim
6. أَنَّهُمْannahumthat they
7. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
8. بِمَآbimāin what
9. أُنزِلَunzila(is) revealed
10. إِلَيْكَilaykato you
11. وَمَآwamāand what
12. أُنزِلَunzilawas revealed
13. مِنminfrom
14. قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
15. يُرِيدُونَyurīdūnaThey wish
16. أَنanto
17. يَتَحَاكَمُوٓا۟yataḥākamūgo for judgment
18. إِلَىilāto
19. ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِl-ṭāghūtithe false deities
20. وَقَدْwaqadand surely
21. أُمِرُوٓا۟umirūthey were ordered
22. أَنanto
23. يَكْفُرُوا۟yakfurūreject
24. بِهِۦbihi[with] it
25. وَيُرِيدُwayurīduAnd wishes
26. ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
27. أَنanto
28. يُضِلَّهُمْyuḍillahummislead them
29. ضَلَـٰلًۢاḍalālanastray
30. بَعِيدًۭاbaʿīdanfar away

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ رَأَيْتَ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَنكَ صُدُودًا

Transliteration wa-idhā qīla lahum taʿālaw ilā mā anzala l-lahu wa-ilā l-rasūli ra-ayta l-munāfiqīna yaṣuddūna ʿanka ṣudūdan

English And when it is said to them, "Come to what Allāh has revealed and to the Messenger," you see the hypocrites turning away from you in aversion.

1. وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
2. قِيلَqīlait is said
3. لَهُمْlahumto them
4. تَعَالَوْا۟taʿālawCome
5. إِلَىٰilāto
6. مَآmāwhat
7. أَنزَلَanzala(has) revealed
8. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
9. وَإِلَىwa-ilāand to
10. ٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūlithe Messenger
11. رَأَيْتَra-aytayou see
12. ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَl-munāfiqīnathe hypocrites
13. يَصُدُّونَyaṣuddūnaturning away
14. عَنكَʿankafrom you
15. صُدُودًۭاṣudūdan(in) aversion

فَكَيْفَ إِذَآ أَصَـٰبَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ جَآءُوكَ يَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَدْنَآ إِلَّآ إِحْسَـٰنًا وَتَوْفِيقًا

Transliteration fakayfa idhā aṣābathum muṣībatun bimā qaddamat aydīhim thumma jāūka yaḥlifūna bil-lahi in aradnā illā iḥ'sānan watawfīqan

English So how [will it be] when disaster strikes them because of what their hands have put forth and then they come to you swearing by Allāh, "We intended nothing but good conduct and accommodation."

1. فَكَيْفَfakayfaSo how
2. إِذَآidhāwhen
3. أَصَـٰبَتْهُمaṣābathumbefalls them
4. مُّصِيبَةٌۢmuṣībatundisaster
5. بِمَاbimāfor what
6. قَدَّمَتْqaddamatsent forth
7. أَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir hands
8. ثُمَّthummathen
9. جَآءُوكَjāūkathey come to you
10. يَحْلِفُونَyaḥlifūnaswearing
11. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiby Allah
12. إِنْinNot
13. أَرَدْنَآaradnāwe intended
14. إِلَّآillāexcept
15. إِحْسَـٰنًۭاiḥ'sānangood
16. وَتَوْفِيقًاwatawfīqanand reconciliation

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُ ٱللَّهُ مَا فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَعِظْهُمْ وَقُل لَّهُمْ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ قَوْلًۢا بَلِيغًا

Transliteration ulāika alladhīna yaʿlamu l-lahu mā fī qulūbihim fa-aʿriḍ ʿanhum waʿiẓ'hum waqul lahum fī anfusihim qawlan balīghan

English Those are the ones of whom Allāh knows what is in their hearts, so turn away from them but admonish them and speak to them a far-reaching [i.e., effective] word.

1. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones who
3. يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
4. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
5. مَاmāwhat
6. فِىfī(is) in
7. قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir hearts
8. فَأَعْرِضْfa-aʿriḍso turn away
9. عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
10. وَعِظْهُمْwaʿiẓ'humand admonish them
11. وَقُلwaquland say
12. لَّهُمْlahumto them
13. فِىٓfīconcerning
14. أَنفُسِهِمْanfusihimtheir souls
15. قَوْلًۢاqawlana word
16. بَلِيغًۭاbalīghanpenetrating

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا لِيُطَاعَ بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذ ظَّلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ جَآءُوكَ فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ لَوَجَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا

Transliteration wamā arsalnā min rasūlin illā liyuṭāʿa bi-idh'ni l-lahi walaw annahum idh ẓalamū anfusahum jāūka fa-is'taghfarū l-laha wa-is'taghfara lahumu l-rasūlu lawajadū l-laha tawwāban raḥīman

English And We did not send any messenger except to be obeyed by permission of Allāh. And if, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you, [O Muḥammad], and asked forgiveness of Allāh and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allāh Accepting of Repentance and Merciful.

1. وَمَآwamāAnd not
2. أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
3. مِنminany
4. رَّسُولٍrasūlinMessenger
5. إِلَّاillāexcept
6. لِيُطَاعَliyuṭāʿato be obeyed
7. بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby (the) permission
8. ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) Allah
9. وَلَوْwalawAnd if
10. أَنَّهُمْannahum[that] they
11. إِذidhwhen
12. ظَّلَمُوٓا۟ẓalamūthey wronged
13. أَنفُسَهُمْanfusahumthemselves
14. جَآءُوكَjāūka(had) come to you
15. فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟fa-is'taghfarūand asked forgiveness
16. ٱللَّهَl-laha(of) Allah
17. وَٱسْتَغْفَرَwa-is'taghfaraand asked forgiveness
18. لَهُمُlahumufor them
19. ٱلرَّسُولُl-rasūluthe Messenger
20. لَوَجَدُوا۟lawajadūsurely they would have found
21. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
22. تَوَّابًۭاtawwābanOft-Forgiving
23. رَّحِيمًۭاraḥīmanMost Merciful

فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىٰ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا۟ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا

Transliteration falā warabbika lā yu'minūna ḥattā yuḥakkimūka fīmā shajara baynahum thumma lā yajidū fī anfusihim ḥarajan mimmā qaḍayta wayusallimū taslīman

English But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muḥammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.

1. فَلَاfalāBut no
2. وَرَبِّكَwarabbikaby your Lord
3. لَاlānot
4. يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawill they believe
5. حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
6. يُحَكِّمُوكَyuḥakkimūkathey make you judge
7. فِيمَاfīmāabout what
8. شَجَرَshajaraarises
9. بَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween them
10. ثُمَّthummathen
11. لَاlānot
12. يَجِدُوا۟yajidūthey find
13. فِىٓfīin
14. أَنفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselves
15. حَرَجًۭاḥarajanany discomfort
16. مِّمَّاmimmāabout what
17. قَضَيْتَqaḍaytayou (have) decided
18. وَيُسَلِّمُوا۟wayusallimūand submit
19. تَسْلِيمًۭاtaslīman(in full) submission

وَلَوْ أَنَّا كَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَنِ ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ أَوِ ٱخْرُجُوا۟ مِن دِيَـٰرِكُم مَّا فَعَلُوهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ فَعَلُوا۟ مَا يُوعَظُونَ بِهِۦ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَأَشَدَّ تَثْبِيتًا

Transliteration walaw annā katabnā ʿalayhim ani uq'tulū anfusakum awi ukh'rujū min diyārikum mā faʿalūhu illā qalīlun min'hum walaw annahum faʿalū mā yūʿaẓūna bihi lakāna khayran lahum wa-ashadda tathbītan

English And if We had decreed upon them, "Kill yourselves" or "Leave your homes," they would not have done it, except for a few of them. But if they had done what they were instructed, it would have been better for them and a firmer position [for them in faith].

1. وَلَوْwalawAnd if
2. أَنَّاannā[that] We
3. كَتَبْنَاkatabnā(had) decreed
4. عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimon them
5. أَنِanithat
6. ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟uq'tulūKill
7. أَنفُسَكُمْanfusakumyourselves
8. أَوِawior
9. ٱخْرُجُوا۟ukh'rujūGo forth
10. مِنminfrom
11. دِيَـٰرِكُمdiyārikumyour homes
12. مَّاmānot
13. فَعَلُوهُfaʿalūhuthey would have done it
14. إِلَّاillāexcept
15. قَلِيلٌۭqalīluna few
16. مِّنْهُمْ ۖmin'humof them
17. وَلَوْwalawBut if
18. أَنَّهُمْannahum[that] they
19. فَعَلُوا۟faʿalūhad done
20. مَاmāwhat
21. يُوعَظُونَyūʿaẓūnathey were advised
22. بِهِۦbihiwith [it]
23. لَكَانَlakānasurely (it) would have been
24. خَيْرًۭاkhayranbetter
25. لَّهُمْlahumfor them
26. وَأَشَدَّwa-ashaddaand stronger
27. تَثْبِيتًۭاtathbītanstrengthen(ing)

وَإِذًا لَّـَٔاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّن لَّدُنَّآ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

Transliteration wa-idhan laātaynāhum min ladunnā ajran ʿaẓīman

English And then We would have given them from Us a great reward.

1. وَإِذًۭاwa-idhanAnd then
2. لَّـَٔاتَيْنَـٰهُمlaātaynāhumWe would (have) given them
3. مِّنminfrom
4. لَّدُنَّآladunnāOurselves
5. أَجْرًاajrana reward
6. عَظِيمًۭاʿaẓīmangreat

وَلَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمْ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا

Transliteration walahadaynāhum ṣirāṭan mus'taqīman

English And We would have guided them to a straight path.

1. وَلَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمْwalahadaynāhumAnd We would have guided them
2. صِرَٰطًۭاṣirāṭan(to the) way
3. مُّسْتَقِيمًۭاmus'taqīman(the) straight

وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ وَٱلصِّدِّيقِينَ وَٱلشُّهَدَآءِ وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ۚ وَحَسُنَ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ رَفِيقًا

Transliteration waman yuṭiʿi l-laha wal-rasūla fa-ulāika maʿa alladhīna anʿama l-lahu ʿalayhim mina l-nabiyīna wal-ṣidīqīna wal-shuhadāi wal-ṣāliḥīna waḥasuna ulāika rafīqan

English And whoever obeys Allāh and the Messenger - those will be with the ones upon whom Allāh has bestowed favor of the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions.

1. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
2. يُطِعِyuṭiʿiobeys
3. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
4. وَٱلرَّسُولَwal-rasūlaand the Messenger
5. فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
6. مَعَmaʿa(will be) with
7. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whom
8. أَنْعَمَanʿamahas bestowed (His) Favor
9. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
10. عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimupon them
11. مِّنَminaof
12. ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَl-nabiyīnathe Prophets
13. وَٱلصِّدِّيقِينَwal-ṣidīqīnaand the truthful
14. وَٱلشُّهَدَآءِwal-shuhadāiand the martyrs
15. وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ۚwal-ṣāliḥīnaand the righteous
16. وَحَسُنَwaḥasunaAnd excellent
17. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāika(are) those
18. رَفِيقًۭاrafīqancompanion(s)

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَضْلُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ عَلِيمًا

Transliteration dhālika l-faḍlu mina l-lahi wakafā bil-lahi ʿalīman

English That is the bounty from Allāh, and sufficient is Allāh as Knower.

1. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
2. ٱلْفَضْلُl-faḍlu(is) the Bounty
3. مِنَminaof
4. ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahiAllah
5. وَكَفَىٰwakafāand sufficient
6. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiAllah
7. عَلِيمًۭاʿalīman(as) All-Knower

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ خُذُوا۟ حِذْرَكُمْ فَٱنفِرُوا۟ ثُبَاتٍ أَوِ ٱنفِرُوا۟ جَمِيعًا

Transliteration yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū khudhū ḥidh'rakum fa-infirū thubātin awi infirū jamīʿan

English O you who have believed, take your precaution and [either] go forth in companies or go forth all together.

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
3. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
4. خُذُوا۟khudhūTake
5. حِذْرَكُمْḥidh'rakumyour precautions
6. فَٱنفِرُوا۟fa-infirūand advance
7. ثُبَاتٍthubātin(in) groups
8. أَوِawior
9. ٱنفِرُوا۟infirūadvance
10. جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall together

وَإِنَّ مِنكُمْ لَمَن لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ فَإِنْ أَصَـٰبَتْكُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالَ قَدْ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىَّ إِذْ لَمْ أَكُن مَّعَهُمْ شَهِيدًا

Transliteration wa-inna minkum laman layubaṭṭi-anna fa-in aṣābatkum muṣībatun qāla qad anʿama l-lahu ʿalayya idh lam akun maʿahum shahīdan

English And indeed, there is among you he who lingers behind; and if disaster strikes you, he says, "Allāh has favored me in that I was not present with them."

1. وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
2. مِنكُمْminkumamong you
3. لَمَنlaman(is he) who
4. لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّlayubaṭṭi-annalags behind
5. فَإِنْfa-inthen if
6. أَصَـٰبَتْكُمaṣābatkumbefalls you
7. مُّصِيبَةٌۭmuṣībatuna disaster
8. قَالَqālahe said
9. قَدْqadVerily
10. أَنْعَمَanʿama(has) favored
11. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
12. عَلَىَّʿalayya[on] me
13. إِذْidh[when]
14. لَمْlam(that) not
15. أَكُنakunI was
16. مَّعَهُمْmaʿahumwith them
17. شَهِيدًۭاshahīdanpresent

وَلَئِنْ أَصَـٰبَكُمْ فَضْلٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لَيَقُولَنَّ كَأَن لَّمْ تَكُنۢ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُۥ مَوَدَّةٌ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ مَعَهُمْ فَأَفُوزَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا

Transliteration wala-in aṣābakum faḍlun mina l-lahi layaqūlanna ka-an lam takun baynakum wabaynahu mawaddatun yālaytanī kuntu maʿahum fa-afūza fawzan ʿaẓīman

English But if bounty comes to you from Allāh, he will surely say, as if [i.e., showing that] there had never been between you and him any affection, "Oh, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained a great attainment."

1. وَلَئِنْwala-inAnd if
2. أَصَـٰبَكُمْaṣābakumbefalls you
3. فَضْلٌۭfaḍlunbounty
4. مِّنَminafrom
5. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
6. لَيَقُولَنَّlayaqūlannahe would surely say
7. كَأَنka-anas if
8. لَّمْlam(had) not
9. تَكُنۢtakunthere been
10. بَيْنَكُمْbaynakumbetween you
11. وَبَيْنَهُۥwabaynahuand between him
12. مَوَدَّةٌۭmawaddatunany affection
13. يَـٰلَيْتَنِىyālaytanīOh! I wish
14. كُنتُkuntuI had been
15. مَعَهُمْmaʿahumwith them
16. فَأَفُوزَfa-afūzathen I would have attained
17. فَوْزًاfawzana success
18. عَظِيمًۭاʿaẓīmangreat

۞ فَلْيُقَـٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَشْرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ وَمَن يُقَـٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَيُقْتَلْ أَوْ يَغْلِبْ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

Transliteration falyuqātil fī sabīli l-lahi alladhīna yashrūna l-ḥayata l-dun'yā bil-ākhirati waman yuqātil fī sabīli l-lahi fayuq'tal aw yaghlib fasawfa nu'tīhi ajran ʿaẓīman

English So let those fight in the cause of Allāh who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. And he who fights in the cause of Allāh and is killed or achieves victory - We will bestow upon him a great reward.

1. ۞ فَلْيُقَـٰتِلْfalyuqātilSo let fight
2. فِىfīin
3. سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
4. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
5. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
6. يَشْرُونَyashrūnasell
7. ٱلْحَيَوٰةَl-ḥayatathe life
8. ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
9. بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚbil-ākhiratifor the Hereafter
10. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
11. يُقَـٰتِلْyuqātilfights
12. فِىfīin
13. سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
14. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
15. فَيُقْتَلْfayuq'talthen he is killed
16. أَوْawor
17. يَغْلِبْyaghlibachieves victory
18. فَسَوْفَfasawfathen soon
19. نُؤْتِيهِnu'tīhiWe will grant him
20. أَجْرًاajrana reward
21. عَظِيمًۭاʿaẓīmana great

وَمَا لَكُمْ لَا تُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ ٱلرِّجَالِ وَٱلنِّسَآءِ وَٱلْوِلْدَٰنِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ٱلظَّالِمِ أَهْلُهَا وَٱجْعَل لَّنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّا وَٱجْعَل لَّنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ نَصِيرًا

Transliteration wamā lakum lā tuqātilūna fī sabīli l-lahi wal-mus'taḍʿafīna mina l-rijāli wal-nisāi wal-wil'dāni alladhīna yaqūlūna rabbanā akhrij'nā min hādhihi l-qaryati l-ẓālimi ahluhā wa-ij'ʿal lanā min ladunka waliyyan wa-ij'ʿal lanā min ladunka naṣīran

English And what is [the matter] with you that you fight not in the cause of Allāh and [for] the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, "Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper"?

1. وَمَاwamāAnd what
2. لَكُمْlakumfor you
3. لَاlā(that) not
4. تُقَـٰتِلُونَtuqātilūnayou fight
5. فِىfīin
6. سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
7. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
8. وَٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَwal-mus'taḍʿafīnaand (for) those who are weak
9. مِنَminaamong
10. ٱلرِّجَالِl-rijālithe men
11. وَٱلنِّسَآءِwal-nisāiand the women
12. وَٱلْوِلْدَٰنِwal-wil'dāniand the children
13. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
14. يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnasay
15. رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
16. أَخْرِجْنَاakhrij'nātake us out
17. مِنْminof
18. هَـٰذِهِhādhihithis
19. ٱلْقَرْيَةِl-qaryati[the] town
20. ٱلظَّالِمِl-ẓālimi[the] oppressor(s)
21. أَهْلُهَاahluhā(are) its people
22. وَٱجْعَلwa-ij'ʿaland appoint
23. لَّنَاlanāfor us
24. مِنminfrom
25. لَّدُنكَladunkaYourself
26. وَلِيًّۭاwaliyyana protector
27. وَٱجْعَلwa-ij'ʿaland appoint
28. لَّنَاlanāfor us
29. مِنminfrom
30. لَّدُنكَladunkaYourself
31. نَصِيرًاnaṣīrana helper

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ فَقَـٰتِلُوٓا۟ أَوْلِيَآءَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۖ إِنَّ كَيْدَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ كَانَ ضَعِيفًا

Transliteration alladhīna āmanū yuqātilūna fī sabīli l-lahi wa-alladhīna kafarū yuqātilūna fī sabīli l-ṭāghūti faqātilū awliyāa l-shayṭāni inna kayda l-shayṭāni kāna ḍaʿīfan

English Those who believe fight in the cause of Allāh, and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of ṭāghūt. So fight against the allies of Satan. Indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak.

1. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
2. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
3. يُقَـٰتِلُونَyuqātilūnathey fight
4. فِىfīin
5. سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
6. ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahi(of) Allah
7. وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those
8. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūwho disbelieve
9. يُقَـٰتِلُونَyuqātilūnathey fight
10. فِىfīin
11. سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
12. ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِl-ṭāghūti(of) the false deities
13. فَقَـٰتِلُوٓا۟faqātilūSo fight (against)
14. أَوْلِيَآءَawliyāa(the) friends
15. ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۖl-shayṭāni(of) the Shaitaan
16. إِنَّinnaIndeed
17. كَيْدَkayda(the) strategy
18. ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِl-shayṭāni(of) the Shaitaan
19. كَانَkānais
20. ضَعِيفًاḍaʿīfanweak

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ قِيلَ لَهُمْ كُفُّوٓا۟ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقِتَالُ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَخْشَوْنَ ٱلنَّاسَ كَخَشْيَةِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ أَشَدَّ خَشْيَةً ۚ وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لِمَ كَتَبْتَ عَلَيْنَا ٱلْقِتَالَ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ ۗ قُلْ مَتَـٰعُ ٱلدُّنْيَا قَلِيلٌ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَلَا تُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا

Transliteration alam tara ilā alladhīna qīla lahum kuffū aydiyakum wa-aqīmū l-ṣalata waātū l-zakata falammā kutiba ʿalayhimu l-qitālu idhā farīqun min'hum yakhshawna l-nāsa kakhashyati l-lahi aw ashadda khashyatan waqālū rabbanā lima katabta ʿalaynā l-qitāla lawlā akhartanā ilā ajalin qarībin qul matāʿu l-dun'yā qalīlun wal-ākhiratu khayrun limani ittaqā walā tuẓ'lamūna fatīlan

English Have you not seen those who were told, "Restrain your hands [from fighting] and establish prayer and give zakāh"? But then when battle was ordained for them, at once a party of them feared men as they fear Allāh or with [even] greater fear. They said, "Our Lord, why have You decreed upon us fighting? If only You had postponed [it for] us for a short time." Say, "The enjoyment of this world is little, and the Hereafter is better for he who fears Allāh. And injustice will not be done to you, [even] as much as a thread [inside a date seed]."

1. أَلَمْalamHave not
2. تَرَtarayou seen
3. إِلَىilā[towards]
4. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
5. قِيلَqīla(when) it was said
6. لَهُمْlahumto them
7. كُفُّوٓا۟kuffūRestrain
8. أَيْدِيَكُمْaydiyakumyour hands
9. وَأَقِيمُوا۟wa-aqīmūand establish
10. ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
11. وَءَاتُوا۟waātūand give
12. ٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatathe zakah
13. فَلَمَّاfalammāThen when
14. كُتِبَkutibawas ordained
15. عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuon them
16. ٱلْقِتَالُl-qitāluthe fighting
17. إِذَاidhāthen
18. فَرِيقٌۭfarīquna group
19. مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
20. يَخْشَوْنَyakhshawna[they] fear
21. ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe people
22. كَخَشْيَةِkakhashyatias (they) fear
23. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
24. أَوْawor
25. أَشَدَّashaddamore intense
26. خَشْيَةًۭ ۚkhashyatanfear
27. وَقَالُوا۟waqālūand they said
28. رَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord
29. لِمَlimawhy
30. كَتَبْتَkatabtahave You ordained
31. عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon us
32. ٱلْقِتَالَl-qitāla[the] fighting
33. لَوْلَآlawlāWhy not
34. أَخَّرْتَنَآakhartanāYou postpone (it for) us
35. إِلَىٰٓilāto
36. أَجَلٍۢajalina term
37. قَرِيبٍۢ ۗqarībinnear
38. قُلْqulSay
39. مَتَـٰعُmatāʿuEnjoyment
40. ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
41. قَلِيلٌۭqalīlun(is) little
42. وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُwal-ākhiratuand the Hereafter
43. خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) better
44. لِّمَنِlimanifor whoever
45. ٱتَّقَىٰittaqāfears (Allah)
46. وَلَاwalāand not
47. تُظْلَمُونَtuẓ'lamūnayou will be wronged
48. فَتِيلًاfatīlan(even as much as) a hair on a date-seed

أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا۟ يُدْرِككُّمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُرُوجٍ مُّشَيَّدَةٍ ۗ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ حَسَنَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِكَ ۚ قُلْ كُلٌّ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَمَالِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلْقَوْمِ لَا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ حَدِيثًا

Transliteration aynamā takūnū yud'rikkumu l-mawtu walaw kuntum fī burūjin mushayyadatin wa-in tuṣib'hum ḥasanatun yaqūlū hādhihi min ʿindi l-lahi wa-in tuṣib'hum sayyi-atun yaqūlū hādhihi min ʿindika qul kullun min ʿindi l-lahi famāli hāulāi l-qawmi lā yakādūna yafqahūna ḥadīthan

English Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. But if good comes to them, they say, "This is from Allāh"; and if evil befalls them, they say, "This is from you." Say, "All [things] are from Allāh." So what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement?

1. أَيْنَمَاaynamāWherever
2. تَكُونُوا۟takūnūyou be
3. يُدْرِككُّمُyud'rikkumuwill overtake you
4. ٱلْمَوْتُl-mawtu[the] death
5. وَلَوْwalaweven if
6. كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
7. فِىfīin
8. بُرُوجٍۢburūjintowers
9. مُّشَيَّدَةٍۢ ۗmushayyadatinlofty
10. وَإِنwa-inAnd if
11. تُصِبْهُمْtuṣib'humbefalls them
12. حَسَنَةٌۭḥasanatunany good
13. يَقُولُوا۟yaqūlūthey say
14. هَـٰذِهِۦhādhihiThis
15. مِنْmin(is)
16. عِندِʿindifrom
17. ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
18. وَإِنwa-inAnd if
19. تُصِبْهُمْtuṣib'humbefalls them
20. سَيِّئَةٌۭsayyi-atunany evil
21. يَقُولُوا۟yaqūlūthey say
22. هَـٰذِهِۦhādhihiThis
23. مِنْmin(is)
24. عِندِكَ ۚʿindika(from) you
25. قُلْqulSay
26. كُلٌّۭkullunAll
27. مِّنْmin(is)
28. عِندِʿindifrom
29. ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
30. فَمَالِfamāliSo what (is wrong)
31. هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāi(with) these
32. ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmi[the] people
33. لَاlānot
34. يَكَادُونَyakādūnado they seem
35. يَفْقَهُونَyafqahūna(to) understand
36. حَدِيثًۭاḥadīthanany statement

مَّآ أَصَابَكَ مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَمَآ أَصَابَكَ مِن سَيِّئَةٍ فَمِن نَّفْسِكَ ۚ وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ لِلنَّاسِ رَسُولًا ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدًا

Transliteration mā aṣābaka min ḥasanatin famina l-lahi wamā aṣābaka min sayyi-atin famin nafsika wa-arsalnāka lilnnāsi rasūlan wakafā bil-lahi shahīdan

English What comes to you of good is from Allāh, but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourself. And We have sent you, [O Muḥammad], to the people as a messenger, and sufficient is Allāh as Witness.

1. مَّآmāWhat(ever)
2. أَصَابَكَaṣābakabefalls you
3. مِنْminof
4. حَسَنَةٍۢḥasanatin(the) good
5. فَمِنَfamina(is) from
6. ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
7. وَمَآwamāand whatever
8. أَصَابَكَaṣābakabefalls you
9. مِنminof
10. سَيِّئَةٍۢsayyi-atin(the) evil
11. فَمِنfamin(is) from
12. نَّفْسِكَ ۚnafsikayourself
13. وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰكَwa-arsalnākaAnd We have sent you
14. لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the people
15. رَسُولًۭا ۚrasūlan(as) a Messenger
16. وَكَفَىٰwakafāand is sufficient
17. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiAllah
18. شَهِيدًۭاshahīdan(as) a Witness

مَّن يُطِعِ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ ٱللَّهَ ۖ وَمَن تَوَلَّىٰ فَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا

Transliteration man yuṭiʿi l-rasūla faqad aṭāʿa l-laha waman tawallā famā arsalnāka ʿalayhim ḥafīẓan

English He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allāh; but those who turn away - We have not sent you over them as a guardian.

1. مَّنman(He) who
2. يُطِعِyuṭiʿiobeys
3. ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
4. فَقَدْfaqadthen surely
5. أَطَاعَaṭāʿahe obeyed
6. ٱللَّهَ ۖl-lahaAllah
7. وَمَنwamanand whoever
8. تَوَلَّىٰtawallāturns away
9. فَمَآfamāthen not
10. أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَarsalnākaWe (have) sent you
11. عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover them
12. حَفِيظًۭاḥafīẓan(as) a guardian

وَيَقُولُونَ طَاعَةٌ فَإِذَا بَرَزُوا۟ مِنْ عِندِكَ بَيَّتَ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُمْ غَيْرَ ٱلَّذِى تَقُولُ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَكْتُبُ مَا يُبَيِّتُونَ ۖ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًا

Transliteration wayaqūlūna ṭāʿatun fa-idhā barazū min ʿindika bayyata ṭāifatun min'hum ghayra alladhī taqūlu wal-lahu yaktubu mā yubayyitūna fa-aʿriḍ ʿanhum watawakkal ʿalā l-lahi wakafā bil-lahi wakīlan

English And they say, "[We pledge] obedience." But when they leave you, a group of them spend the night determining to do other than what you say. But Allāh records what they plan by night. So leave them alone and rely upon Allāh. And sufficient is Allāh as Disposer of affairs.

1. وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say
2. طَاعَةٌۭṭāʿatun(We pledge) obedience
3. فَإِذَاfa-idhāThen when
4. بَرَزُوا۟barazūthey leave
5. مِنْminfrom
6. عِندِكَʿindikayou
7. بَيَّتَbayyataplan by night
8. طَآئِفَةٌۭṭāifatuna group
9. مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
10. غَيْرَghayraother than
11. ٱلَّذِىalladhīthat which
12. تَقُولُ ۖtaqūluyou say
13. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allah
14. يَكْتُبُyaktuburecords
15. مَاmāwhat
16. يُبَيِّتُونَ ۖyubayyitūnathey plan by night
17. فَأَعْرِضْfa-aʿriḍSo turn (away)
18. عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
19. وَتَوَكَّلْwatawakkaland put (your) trust
20. عَلَىʿalāin
21. ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahiAllah
22. وَكَفَىٰwakafāAnd sufficient
23. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiis Allah
24. وَكِيلًاwakīlan(as) a Trustee
