Surah Ali 'Imran in English: word by word, transliteration

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīmi

English In the name of Allāh, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

1. بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) name
2. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
3. ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmānithe Most Gracious
4. ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmithe Most Merciful

الٓمٓ

Transliteration alif-lam-meem

English Alif, Lām, Meem.

1. الٓمٓalif-lam-meemAlif Laam Meem

ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ

Transliteration al-lahu lā ilāha illā huwa l-ḥayu l-qayūmu

English Allāh - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining.

1. ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
2. لَآlā(there is) no
3. إِلَـٰهَilāhaGod
4. إِلَّاillāexcept
5. هُوَhuwaHim
6. ٱلْحَىُّl-ḥayuthe Ever-Living
7. ٱلْقَيُّومُl-qayūmuthe Sustainer of all that exists

نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَأَنزَلَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ

Transliteration nazzala ʿalayka l-kitāba bil-ḥaqi muṣaddiqan limā bayna yadayhi wa-anzala l-tawrāta wal-injīla

English He has sent down upon you, [O Muḥammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel

1. نَزَّلَnazzalaHe revealed
2. عَلَيْكَʿalaykato you
3. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
4. بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin [the] truth
5. مُصَدِّقًۭاmuṣaddiqanconfirming
6. لِّمَاlimāthat which
7. بَيْنَbayna(was)
8. يَدَيْهِyadayhibefore it
9. وَأَنزَلَwa-anzalaand He revealed
10. ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَl-tawrātathe Taurat
11. وَٱلْإِنجِيلَwal-injīlaand the Injeel

مِن قَبْلُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَنزَلَ ٱلْفُرْقَانَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ ذُو ٱنتِقَامٍ

Transliteration min qablu hudan lilnnāsi wa-anzala l-fur'qāna inna alladhīna kafarū biāyāti l-lahi lahum ʿadhābun shadīdun wal-lahu ʿazīzun dhū intiqāmin

English Before, as guidance for the people. And He revealed the Criterion [i.e., the Qur’ān]. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allāh will have a severe punishment, and Allāh is Exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution.

1. مِنminFrom
2. قَبْلُqablubefore (this)
3. هُدًۭىhudan(as) guidance
4. لِّلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the mankind
5. وَأَنزَلَwa-anzalaAnd (He) revealed
6. ٱلْفُرْقَانَ ۗl-fur'qānathe Criterion
7. إِنَّinnaVerily
8. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
9. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve[d]
10. بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiin (the) Verses
11. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
12. لَهُمْlahumfor them
13. عَذَابٌۭʿadhābun(is) a punishment
14. شَدِيدٌۭ ۗshadīdunsevere
15. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
16. عَزِيزٌۭʿazīzun(is) All-Mighty
17. ذُوdhūAll-Able
18. ٱنتِقَامٍintiqāmin(of) retribution

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَيْهِ شَىْءٌ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ

Transliteration inna l-laha lā yakhfā ʿalayhi shayon fī l-arḍi walā fī l-samāi

English Indeed, from Allāh nothing is hidden in the earth nor in the heaven.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
3. لَاlānot
4. يَخْفَىٰyakhfāis hidden
5. عَلَيْهِʿalayhifrom Him
6. شَىْءٌۭshayonanything
7. فِىfīin
8. ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
9. وَلَاwalāand not
10. فِىfīin
11. ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُصَوِّرُكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْحَامِ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ ۚ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

Transliteration huwa alladhī yuṣawwirukum fī l-arḥāmi kayfa yashāu lā ilāha illā huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu

English It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

2. ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
3. يُصَوِّرُكُمْyuṣawwirukumshapes you
4. فِىfīin
5. ٱلْأَرْحَامِl-arḥāmithe wombs
6. كَيْفَkayfahow(ever)
7. يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
8. لَآlā(There is) no
9. إِلَـٰهَilāhagod
10. إِلَّاillāexcept
11. هُوَhuwaHim
12. ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe All-Mighty
13. ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِنْهُ ءَايَـٰتٌ مُّحْكَمَـٰتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَـٰبِهَـٰتٌ ۖ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَـٰبَهَ مِنْهُ ٱبْتِغَآءَ ٱلْفِتْنَةِ وَٱبْتِغَآءَ تَأْوِيلِهِۦ ۗ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ تَأْوِيلَهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۗ وَٱلرَّٰسِخُونَ فِى ٱلْعِلْمِ يَقُولُونَ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ كُلٌّ مِّنْ عِندِ رَبِّنَا ۗ وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلَّآ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

Transliteration huwa alladhī anzala ʿalayka l-kitāba min'hu āyātun muḥ'kamātun hunna ummu l-kitābi wa-ukharu mutashābihātun fa-ammā alladhīna fī qulūbihim zayghun fayattabiʿūna mā tashābaha min'hu ib'tighāa l-fit'nati wa-ib'tighāa tawīlihi wamā yaʿlamu tawīlahu illā l-lahu wal-rāsikhūna fī l-ʿil'mi yaqūlūna āmannā bihi kullun min ʿindi rabbinā wamā yadhakkaru illā ulū l-albābi

English It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allāh. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.

2. ٱلَّذِىٓalladhī(is) the One Who
3. أَنزَلَanzalarevealed
4. عَلَيْكَʿalaykato you
5. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
6. مِنْهُmin'huof it
7. ءَايَـٰتٌۭāyātun(are) Verses
8. مُّحْكَمَـٰتٌmuḥ'kamātunabsolutely clear
9. هُنَّhunnathey (are)
10. أُمُّummuthe foundation
11. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
12. وَأُخَرُwa-ukharuand others
13. مُتَشَـٰبِهَـٰتٌۭ ۖmutashābihātun(are) allegorical
14. فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
15. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose
16. فِىfīin
17. قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir hearts
18. زَيْغٌۭzayghun(is) perversity
19. فَيَتَّبِعُونَfayattabiʿūna[so] they follow
20. مَاmāwhat
21. تَشَـٰبَهَtashābaha(is) allegorical
22. مِنْهُmin'huof it
23. ٱبْتِغَآءَib'tighāaseeking
24. ٱلْفِتْنَةِl-fit'nati[the] discord
25. وَٱبْتِغَآءَwa-ib'tighāaand seeking
26. تَأْوِيلِهِۦ ۗtawīlihiits interpretation
27. وَمَاwamāAnd not
28. يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
29. تَأْوِيلَهُۥٓtawīlahuits interpretation
30. إِلَّاillāexcept
31. ٱللَّهُ ۗl-lahuAllah
32. وَٱلرَّٰسِخُونَwal-rāsikhūnaAnd those firm
33. فِىfīin
34. ٱلْعِلْمِl-ʿil'mi[the] knowledge
35. يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey say
36. ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believe
37. بِهِۦbihiin it
38. كُلٌّۭkullunAll
39. مِّنْmin(is)
40. عِندِʿindifrom
41. رَبِّنَا ۗrabbināour Lord
42. وَمَاwamāAnd not
43. يَذَّكَّرُyadhakkaruwill take heed
44. إِلَّآillāexcept
45. أُو۟لُوا۟ulūmen
46. ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِl-albābi(of) understanding

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ

Transliteration rabbanā lā tuzigh qulūbanā baʿda idh hadaytanā wahab lanā min ladunka raḥmatan innaka anta l-wahābu

English [Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.

1. رَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord
2. لَاlā(Do) not
3. تُزِغْtuzighdeviate
4. قُلُوبَنَاqulūbanāour hearts
5. بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
6. إِذْidh[when]
7. هَدَيْتَنَاhadaytanāYou (have) guided us
8. وَهَبْwahaband grant
9. لَنَاlanā(for) us
10. مِنminfrom
11. لَّدُنكَladunkaYourself
12. رَحْمَةً ۚraḥmatanmercy
13. إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed You
14. أَنتَantaYou
15. ٱلْوَهَّابُl-wahābu(are) the Bestower

رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ جَامِعُ ٱلنَّاسِ لِيَوْمٍ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ ٱلْمِيعَادَ

Transliteration rabbanā innaka jāmiʿu l-nāsi liyawmin lā rayba fīhi inna l-laha lā yukh'lifu l-mīʿāda

English Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allāh does not fail in His promise."

1. رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
2. إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, You
3. جَامِعُjāmiʿuwill gather
4. ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi[the] mankind
5. لِيَوْمٍۢliyawminon a Day
6. لَّاlā(there is) no
7. رَيْبَraybadoubt
8. فِيهِ ۚfīhiin it
9. إِنَّinnaIndeed
10. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
11. لَاlā(does) not
12. يُخْلِفُyukh'lifubreak
13. ٱلْمِيعَادَl-mīʿādathe Promise

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَن تُغْنِىَ عَنْهُمْ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَـٰدُهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمْ وَقُودُ ٱلنَّارِ

Transliteration inna alladhīna kafarū lan tugh'niya ʿanhum amwāluhum walā awlāduhum mina l-lahi shayan wa-ulāika hum waqūdu l-nāri

English Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allāh at all. And it is they who are fuel for the Fire.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve[d]
4. لَنlannever
5. تُغْنِىَtugh'niyawill avail
6. عَنْهُمْʿanhum[for] them
7. أَمْوَٰلُهُمْamwāluhumtheir wealth
8. وَلَآwalāand not
9. أَوْلَـٰدُهُمawlāduhumtheir children
10. مِّنَminaagainst
11. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
12. شَيْـًۭٔا ۖshayananything
13. وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikaand those
14. هُمْhumthey (are)
15. وَقُودُwaqūdu(the) fuel
16. ٱلنَّارِl-nāri(for) the Fire

كَدَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

Transliteration kadabi āli fir'ʿawna wa-alladhīna min qablihim kadhabū biāyātinā fa-akhadhahumu l-lahu bidhunūbihim wal-lahu shadīdu l-ʿiqābi

English [Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allāh seized them for their sins. And Allāh is severe in penalty.

1. كَدَأْبِkadabiLike behavior
2. ءَالِāli(of the) people
3. فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
4. وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
5. مِنmin(were) from
6. قَبْلِهِمْ ۚqablihimbefore them
7. كَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūThey denied
8. بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināOur Signs
9. فَأَخَذَهُمُfa-akhadhahumuso seized them
10. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
11. بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗbidhunūbihimfor their sins
12. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
13. شَدِيدُshadīdu(is) severe
14. ٱلْعِقَابِl-ʿiqābi(in) [the] punishment

قُل لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ سَتُغْلَبُونَ وَتُحْشَرُونَ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ ۚ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمِهَادُ

Transliteration qul lilladhīna kafarū satugh'labūna watuḥ'sharūna ilā jahannama wabi'sa l-mihādu

English Say to those who disbelieve, "You will be overcome and gathered together to Hell, and wretched is the resting place."

1. قُلqulSay
2. لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
3. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve[d]
4. سَتُغْلَبُونَsatugh'labūnaYou will be overcome
5. وَتُحْشَرُونَwatuḥ'sharūnaand you will be gathered
6. إِلَىٰilāto
7. جَهَنَّمَ ۚjahannamaHell
8. وَبِئْسَwabi'sa[and] an evil
9. ٱلْمِهَادُl-mihādu[the] resting place

قَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ ءَايَةٌ فِى فِئَتَيْنِ ٱلْتَقَتَا ۖ فِئَةٌ تُقَـٰتِلُ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَأُخْرَىٰ كَافِرَةٌ يَرَوْنَهُم مِّثْلَيْهِمْ رَأْىَ ٱلْعَيْنِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُؤَيِّدُ بِنَصْرِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ

Transliteration qad kāna lakum āyatun fī fi-atayni l-taqatā fi-atun tuqātilu fī sabīli l-lahi wa-ukh'rā kāfiratun yarawnahum mith'layhim raya l-ʿayni wal-lahu yu-ayyidu binaṣrihi man yashāu inna fī dhālika laʿib'ratan li-ulī l-abṣāri

English Already there has been for you a sign in the two armies which met [in combat at Badr] - one fighting in the cause of Allāh and another of disbelievers. They saw them [to be] twice their [own] number by [their] eyesight. But Allāh supports with His victory whom He wills. Indeed in that is a lesson for those of vision.

1. قَدْqadSurely
2. كَانَkānait was
3. لَكُمْlakumfor you
4. ءَايَةٌۭāyatuna sign
5. فِىfīin
6. فِئَتَيْنِfi-atayni(the) two hosts
7. ٱلْتَقَتَا ۖl-taqatāwhich met
8. فِئَةٌۭfi-atunone group
9. تُقَـٰتِلُtuqātilufighting
10. فِىfīin
11. سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
12. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
13. وَأُخْرَىٰwa-ukh'rāand another
14. كَافِرَةٌۭkāfiratundisbelievers
15. يَرَوْنَهُمyarawnahumThey were seeing them
16. مِّثْلَيْهِمْmith'layhimtwice of them
17. رَأْىَrayawith the sight
18. ٱلْعَيْنِ ۚl-ʿayni(of) their eyes
19. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
20. يُؤَيِّدُyu-ayyidusupports
21. بِنَصْرِهِۦbinaṣrihiwith His help
22. مَنmanwhom
23. يَشَآءُ ۗyashāuHe wills
24. إِنَّinnaIndeed
25. فِىfīin
26. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
27. لَعِبْرَةًۭlaʿib'ratansurely (is) a lesson
28. لِّأُو۟لِىli-ulīfor the owners
29. ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِl-abṣāri(of) vision

زُيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ حُبُّ ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ مِنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ وَٱلْبَنِينَ وَٱلْقَنَـٰطِيرِ ٱلْمُقَنطَرَةِ مِنَ ٱلذَّهَبِ وَٱلْفِضَّةِ وَٱلْخَيْلِ ٱلْمُسَوَّمَةِ وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ وَٱلْحَرْثِ ۗ ذَٰلِكَ مَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَٱللَّهُ عِندَهُۥ حُسْنُ ٱلْمَـَٔابِ

Transliteration zuyyina lilnnāsi ḥubbu l-shahawāti mina l-nisāi wal-banīna wal-qanāṭīri l-muqanṭarati mina l-dhahabi wal-fiḍati wal-khayli l-musawamati wal-anʿāmi wal-ḥarthi dhālika matāʿu l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wal-lahu ʿindahu ḥus'nu l-maābi

English Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allāh has with Him the best return [i.e., Paradise].

1. زُيِّنَzuyyinaBeautified
2. لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankind
3. حُبُّḥubbu(is) love
4. ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِl-shahawāti(of) the (things they) desire
5. مِنَminaof
6. ٱلنِّسَآءِl-nisāi[the] women
7. وَٱلْبَنِينَwal-banīnaand [the] sons
8. وَٱلْقَنَـٰطِيرِwal-qanāṭīriand [the] heaps
9. ٱلْمُقَنطَرَةِl-muqanṭarati[the] stored up
10. مِنَminaof
11. ٱلذَّهَبِl-dhahabi[the] gold
12. وَٱلْفِضَّةِwal-fiḍatiand [the] silver
13. وَٱلْخَيْلِwal-khayliand [the] horses
14. ٱلْمُسَوَّمَةِl-musawamati[the] branded
15. وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِwal-anʿāmiand [the] cattle
16. وَٱلْحَرْثِ ۗwal-ḥarthiand [the] tilled land
17. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
18. مَتَـٰعُmatāʿu(is) provision
19. ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayati(of) life
20. ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖl-dun'yā(of) the world
21. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahubut Allah
22. عِندَهُۥʿindahuwith Him
23. حُسْنُḥus'nu(is an) excellent
24. ٱلْمَـَٔابِl-maābi[the] abode to return

۞ قُلْ أَؤُنَبِّئُكُم بِخَيْرٍ مِّن ذَٰلِكُمْ ۚ لِلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَأَزْوَٰجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَرِضْوَٰنٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ

Transliteration qul a-unabbi-ukum bikhayrin min dhālikum lilladhīna ittaqaw ʿinda rabbihim jannātun tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā wa-azwājun muṭahharatun wariḍ'wānun mina l-lahi wal-lahu baṣīrun bil-ʿibādi

English Say, "Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allāh will be gardens in the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allāh. And Allāh is Seeing [i.e., aware] of [His] servants -

1. ۞ قُلْqulSay
2. أَؤُنَبِّئُكُمa-unabbi-ukumShall I inform you
3. بِخَيْرٍۢbikhayrinof better
4. مِّنminthan
5. ذَٰلِكُمْ ۚdhālikumthat
6. لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnaFor those who
7. ٱتَّقَوْا۟ittaqawfear[ed]
8. عِندَʿindawith
9. رَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lord
10. جَنَّـٰتٌۭjannātun(are) Gardens
11. تَجْرِىtajrīflows
12. مِنminfrom
13. تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath them
14. ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāru[the] rivers
15. خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnaabiding forever
16. فِيهَاfīhāin it
17. وَأَزْوَٰجٌۭwa-azwājunand spouses
18. مُّطَهَّرَةٌۭmuṭahharatunpure
19. وَرِضْوَٰنٌۭwariḍ'wānunand approval
20. مِّنَminafrom
21. ٱللَّهِ ۗl-lahiAllah
22. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
23. بَصِيرٌۢbaṣīrun(is) All-Seer
24. بِٱلْعِبَادِbil-ʿibādiof (His) slaves

ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ

Transliteration alladhīna yaqūlūna rabbanā innanā āmannā fa-igh'fir lanā dhunūbanā waqinā ʿadhāba l-nāri

English Those who say, "Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,"

1. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
2. يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnasay
3. رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
4. إِنَّنَآinnanāIndeed, we
5. ءَامَنَّاāmannā(have) believed
6. فَٱغْفِرْfa-igh'firso forgive
7. لَنَاlanāfor us
8. ذُنُوبَنَاdhunūbanāour sins
9. وَقِنَاwaqināand save us
10. عَذَابَʿadhāba(from) punishment
11. ٱلنَّارِl-nāri(of) the Fire

ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ وَٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ وَٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَ وَٱلْمُنفِقِينَ وَٱلْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِٱلْأَسْحَارِ

Transliteration al-ṣābirīna wal-ṣādiqīna wal-qānitīna wal-munfiqīna wal-mus'taghfirīna bil-asḥāri

English The patient, the true, the obedient, those who spend [in the way of Allāh], and those who seek forgiveness before dawn.

1. ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَal-ṣābirīnaThe patient
2. وَٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَwal-ṣādiqīnaand the truthful
3. وَٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَwal-qānitīnaand the obedient
4. وَٱلْمُنفِقِينَwal-munfiqīnaand those who spend
5. وَٱلْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَwal-mus'taghfirīnaand those who seek forgiveness
6. بِٱلْأَسْحَارِbil-asḥāri[in the] before dawn

شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمِ قَآئِمًۢا بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

Transliteration shahida l-lahu annahu lā ilāha illā huwa wal-malāikatu wa-ulū l-ʿil'mi qāiman bil-qis'ṭi lā ilāha illā huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu

English Allāh witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

1. شَهِدَshahidaBears witness
2. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
3. أَنَّهُۥannahuthat [He]
4. لَآlā(there is) no
5. إِلَـٰهَilāhagod
6. إِلَّاillāexcept
7. هُوَhuwaHim
8. وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُwal-malāikatuand (so do) the Angels
9. وَأُو۟لُوا۟wa-ulūand owners
10. ٱلْعِلْمِl-ʿil'mi(of) [the] knowledge
11. قَآئِمًۢاqāimanstanding
12. بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚbil-qis'ṭiin justice
13. لَآlā(There is) no
14. إِلَـٰهَilāhagod
15. إِلَّاillāexcept
16. هُوَhuwaHim
17. ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe All-Mighty
18. ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

إِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمُ ۗ وَمَا ٱخْتَلَفَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ

Transliteration inna l-dīna ʿinda l-lahi l-is'lāmu wamā ikh'talafa alladhīna ūtū l-kitāba illā min baʿdi mā jāahumu l-ʿil'mu baghyan baynahum waman yakfur biāyāti l-lahi fa-inna l-laha sarīʿu l-ḥisābi

English Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allāh is Islām. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allāh, then indeed, Allāh is swift in [taking] account.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱلدِّينَl-dīnathe religion
3. عِندَʿindanear
4. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
5. ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمُ ۗl-is'lāmu(is) Islam
6. وَمَاwamāAnd not
7. ٱخْتَلَفَikh'talafadiffered
8. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
9. أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
10. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
11. إِلَّاillāexcept
12. مِنۢminfrom
13. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
14. مَاmā[what]
15. جَآءَهُمُjāahumucame to them
16. ٱلْعِلْمُl-ʿil'mu[the] knowledge
17. بَغْيًۢاbaghyanout of envy
18. بَيْنَهُمْ ۗbaynahumamong them
19. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
20. يَكْفُرْyakfurdisbelieves
21. بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiin (the) Verses
22. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
23. فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
24. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
25. سَرِيعُsarīʿu(is) swift
26. ٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābi(in taking) account

فَإِنْ حَآجُّوكَ فَقُلْ أَسْلَمْتُ وَجْهِىَ لِلَّهِ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَنِ ۗ وَقُل لِّلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ ءَأَسْلَمْتُمْ ۚ فَإِنْ أَسْلَمُوا۟ فَقَدِ ٱهْتَدَوا۟ ۖ وَّإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ

Transliteration fa-in ḥājjūka faqul aslamtu wajhiya lillahi wamani ittabaʿani waqul lilladhīna ūtū l-kitāba wal-umiyīna a-aslamtum fa-in aslamū faqadi ih'tadaw wa-in tawallaw fa-innamā ʿalayka l-balāghu wal-lahu baṣīrun bil-ʿibādi

English So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to Allāh [in Islām], and [so have] those who follow me." And say to those who were given the Scripture and [to] the unlearned, "Have you submitted yourselves?" And if they submit [in Islām], they are rightly guided; but if they turn away - then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And Allāh is Seeing of [His] servants.

1. فَإِنْfa-inThen if
2. حَآجُّوكَḥājjūkathey argue with you
3. فَقُلْfaqulthen say
4. أَسْلَمْتُaslamtuI have submitted
5. وَجْهِىَwajhiyamyself
6. لِلَّهِlillahito Allah
7. وَمَنِwamaniand (those) who
8. ٱتَّبَعَنِ ۗittabaʿanifollow me
9. وَقُلwaqulAnd say
10. لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
11. أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
12. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
13. وَٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَwal-umiyīnaand the unlettered people
14. ءَأَسْلَمْتُمْ ۚa-aslamtumHave you submitted yourselves
15. فَإِنْfa-inThen if
16. أَسْلَمُوا۟aslamūthey submit
17. فَقَدِfaqadithen surely
18. ٱهْتَدَوا۟ ۖih'tadawthey are guided
19. وَّإِنwa-inBut if
20. تَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawthey turn back
21. فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen only
22. عَلَيْكَʿalaykaon you
23. ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗl-balāghu(is) to [the] convey
24. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
25. بَصِيرٌۢbaṣīrun(is) All-Seer
26. بِٱلْعِبَادِbil-ʿibādiof [His] slaves

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَيَقْتُلُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

Transliteration inna alladhīna yakfurūna biāyāti l-lahi wayaqtulūna l-nabiyīna bighayri ḥaqqin wayaqtulūna alladhīna yamurūna bil-qis'ṭi mina l-nāsi fabashir'hum biʿadhābin alīmin

English Those who disbelieve in the signs of Allāh and kill the prophets without right and kill those who order justice from among the people - give them tidings of a painful punishment.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. يَكْفُرُونَyakfurūnadisbelieve
4. بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiin (the) Signs (of)
5. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
6. وَيَقْتُلُونَwayaqtulūnaand they kill
7. ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَl-nabiyīnathe Prophets
8. بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
9. حَقٍّۢḥaqqinright
10. وَيَقْتُلُونَwayaqtulūnaand they kill
11. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
12. يَأْمُرُونَyamurūnaorder
13. بِٱلْقِسْطِbil-qis'ṭi[with] justice
14. مِنَminaamong
15. ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe people
16. فَبَشِّرْهُمfabashir'humthen give them tidings
17. بِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābinof a punishment
18. أَلِيمٍalīminpainful

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ

Transliteration ulāika alladhīna ḥabiṭat aʿmāluhum fī l-dun'yā wal-ākhirati wamā lahum min nāṣirīna

English They are the ones whose deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and for them there will be no helpers.

1. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones who
3. حَبِطَتْḥabiṭatbecame worthless
4. أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْaʿmāluhumtheir deeds
5. فِىfīin
6. ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
7. وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand (in) the Hereafter
8. وَمَاwamāAnd not
9. لَهُمlahum(will be) for them
10. مِّنminany
11. نَّـٰصِرِينَnāṣirīnahelpers

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَىٰ كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّىٰ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ وَهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ

Transliteration alam tara ilā alladhīna ūtū naṣīban mina l-kitābi yud'ʿawna ilā kitābi l-lahi liyaḥkuma baynahum thumma yatawallā farīqun min'hum wahum muʿ'riḍūna

English Do you not consider, [O Muḥammad], those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They are invited to the Scripture of Allāh that it should arbitrate between them; then a party of them turns away, and they are refusing.

1. أَلَمْalamHave not
2. تَرَtarayou seen
3. إِلَىilā[to]
4. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
5. أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
6. نَصِيبًۭاnaṣībana portion
7. مِّنَminaof
8. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe Scripture
9. يُدْعَوْنَyud'ʿawnaThey are invited
10. إِلَىٰilāto
11. كِتَـٰبِkitābi(the) Book
12. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
13. لِيَحْكُمَliyaḥkumathat (it should) arbitrate
14. بَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween them
15. ثُمَّthummathen
16. يَتَوَلَّىٰyatawallāturns away
17. فَرِيقٌۭfarīquna party
18. مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
19. وَهُمwahumand they (are)
20. مُّعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūnathose who are averse

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لَن تَمَسَّنَا ٱلنَّارُ إِلَّآ أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَٰتٍ ۖ وَغَرَّهُمْ فِى دِينِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

Transliteration dhālika bi-annahum qālū lan tamassanā l-nāru illā ayyāman maʿdūdātin wagharrahum fī dīnihim mā kānū yaftarūna

English That is because they say, "Never will the Fire touch us except for [a few] numbered days," and [because] they were deluded in their religion by what they were inventing.

1. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
2. بِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because they
3. قَالُوا۟qālūsay
4. لَنlanNever
5. تَمَسَّنَاtamassanāwill touch us
6. ٱلنَّارُl-nāruthe Fire
7. إِلَّآillāexcept
8. أَيَّامًۭاayyāman(for) days
9. مَّعْدُودَٰتٍۢ ۖmaʿdūdātinnumbered
10. وَغَرَّهُمْwagharrahumAnd deceived them
11. فِىfīin
12. دِينِهِمdīnihimtheir religion
13. مَّاmāwhat
14. كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
15. يَفْتَرُونَyaftarūnainventing

فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جَمَعْنَـٰهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ وَوُفِّيَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

Transliteration fakayfa idhā jamaʿnāhum liyawmin lā rayba fīhi wawuffiyat kullu nafsin mā kasabat wahum lā yuẓ'lamūna

English So how will it be when We assemble them for a Day about which there is no doubt? And each soul will be compensated [in full for] what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

1. فَكَيْفَfakayfaThen how (will it be)
2. إِذَاidhāwhen
3. جَمَعْنَـٰهُمْjamaʿnāhumWe will gather them
4. لِيَوْمٍۢliyawminon a Day
5. لَّاlāno
6. رَيْبَraybadoubt
7. فِيهِfīhiin it
8. وَوُفِّيَتْwawuffiyatAnd will be paid in full
9. كُلُّkulluevery
10. نَفْسٍۢnafsinsoul
11. مَّاmāwhat
12. كَسَبَتْkasabatit earned
13. وَهُمْwahumand they
14. لَاlā(will) not
15. يُظْلَمُونَyuẓ'lamūnabe wronged

قُلِ ٱللَّهُمَّ مَـٰلِكَ ٱلْمُلْكِ تُؤْتِى ٱلْمُلْكَ مَن تَشَآءُ وَتَنزِعُ ٱلْمُلْكَ مِمَّن تَشَآءُ وَتُعِزُّ مَن تَشَآءُ وَتُذِلُّ مَن تَشَآءُ ۖ بِيَدِكَ ٱلْخَيْرُ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration quli l-lahuma mālika l-mul'ki tu'tī l-mul'ka man tashāu watanziʿu l-mul'ka mimman tashāu watuʿizzu man tashāu watudhillu man tashāu biyadika l-khayru innaka ʿalā kulli shayin qadīrun

English Say, "O Allāh, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.

1. قُلِquliSay
2. ٱللَّهُمَّl-lahumaO Allah
3. مَـٰلِكَmālikaOwner
4. ٱلْمُلْكِl-mul'ki(of) the Dominion
5. تُؤْتِىtu'tīYou give
6. ٱلْمُلْكَl-mul'kathe dominion
7. مَنman(to) whom
8. تَشَآءُtashāuYou will
9. وَتَنزِعُwatanziʿuand You take away
10. ٱلْمُلْكَl-mul'kathe dominion
11. مِمَّنmimmanfrom whom
12. تَشَآءُtashāuYou will
13. وَتُعِزُّwatuʿizzuand You honor
14. مَنmanwhom
15. تَشَآءُtashāuYou will
16. وَتُذِلُّwatudhilluand You humiliate
17. مَنmanwhom
18. تَشَآءُ ۖtashāuYou will
19. بِيَدِكَbiyadikaIn Your hand
20. ٱلْخَيْرُ ۖl-khayru(is all) the good
21. إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, You
22. عَلَىٰʿalā(are) on
23. كُلِّkullievery
24. شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
25. قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful

تُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَتُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ ۖ وَتُخْرِجُ ٱلْحَىَّ مِنَ ٱلْمَيِّتِ وَتُخْرِجُ ٱلْمَيِّتَ مِنَ ٱلْحَىِّ ۖ وَتَرْزُقُ مَن تَشَآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ

Transliteration tūliju al-layla fī l-nahāri watūliju l-nahāra fī al-layli watukh'riju l-ḥaya mina l-mayiti watukh'riju l-mayita mina l-ḥayi watarzuqu man tashāu bighayri ḥisābin

English You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give provision to whom You will without account [i.e., limit or measure]."

1. تُولِجُtūlijuYou cause to enter
2. ٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe night
3. فِىfīin
4. ٱلنَّهَارِl-nahārithe day
5. وَتُولِجُwatūlijuand You cause to enter
6. ٱلنَّهَارَl-nahārathe day
7. فِىfīin
8. ٱلَّيْلِ ۖal-laylithe night
9. وَتُخْرِجُwatukh'rijuand You bring forth
10. ٱلْحَىَّl-ḥayathe living
11. مِنَminafrom
12. ٱلْمَيِّتِl-mayitithe dead
13. وَتُخْرِجُwatukh'rijuand You bring forth
14. ٱلْمَيِّتَl-mayitathe dead
15. مِنَminafrom
16. ٱلْحَىِّ ۖl-ḥayithe living
17. وَتَرْزُقُwatarzuquand You give provision
18. مَنman(to) whom
19. تَشَآءُtashāuYou will
20. بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
21. حِسَابٍۢḥisābinmeasure

لَّا يَتَّخِذِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَلَيْسَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ فِى شَىْءٍ إِلَّآ أَن تَتَّقُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ تُقَىٰةً ۗ وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسَهُۥ ۗ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

Transliteration lā yattakhidhi l-mu'minūna l-kāfirīna awliyāa min dūni l-mu'minīna waman yafʿal dhālika falaysa mina l-lahi fī shayin illā an tattaqū min'hum tuqātan wayuḥadhirukumu l-lahu nafsahu wa-ilā l-lahi l-maṣīru

English Let not believers take disbelievers as allies [i.e., supporters or protectors] rather than believers. And whoever [of you] does that has nothing [i.e., no association] with Allāh, except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allāh warns you of Himself, and to Allāh is the [final] destination.

1. لَّاlā(Let) not
2. يَتَّخِذِyattakhidhitake
3. ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believers
4. ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
5. أَوْلِيَآءَawliyāa(as) allies
6. مِنminfrom
7. دُونِdūniinstead of
8. ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖl-mu'minīnathe believers
9. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
10. يَفْعَلْyafʿaldoes
11. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
12. فَلَيْسَfalaysathen not he (has)
13. مِنَminafrom
14. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
15. فِىfīin
16. شَىْءٍshayinanything
17. إِلَّآillāexcept
18. أَنanthat
19. تَتَّقُوا۟tattaqūyou fear
20. مِنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
21. تُقَىٰةًۭ ۗtuqātan(as) a precaution
22. وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُwayuḥadhirukumuAnd warns you
23. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
24. نَفْسَهُۥ ۗnafsahu(of) Himself
25. وَإِلَىwa-ilāand to
26. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
27. ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the final return

قُلْ إِن تُخْفُوا۟ مَا فِى صُدُورِكُمْ أَوْ تُبْدُوهُ يَعْلَمْهُ ٱللَّهُ ۗ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration qul in tukh'fū mā fī ṣudūrikum aw tub'dūhu yaʿlamhu l-lahu wayaʿlamu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi wal-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin qadīrun

English Say, "Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or reveal it, Allāh knows it. And He knows that which is in the heavens and that which is on the earth. And Allāh is over all things competent.

3. تُخْفُوا۟tukh'fūyou conceal
4. مَاmāwhat
5. فِىfī(is) in
6. صُدُورِكُمْṣudūrikumyour breasts
7. أَوْawor
8. تُبْدُوهُtub'dūhuyou disclose it
9. يَعْلَمْهُyaʿlamhuknows it
10. ٱللَّهُ ۗl-lahuAllah
11. وَيَعْلَمُwayaʿlamuAnd He knows
12. مَاmāwhat
13. فِىfī(is) in
14. ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
15. وَمَاwamāand what
16. فِىfī(is) in
17. ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗl-arḍithe earth
18. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
19. عَلَىٰʿalā(is) on
20. كُلِّkullievery
21. شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
22. قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful

يَوْمَ تَجِدُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا عَمِلَتْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ مُّحْضَرًا وَمَا عَمِلَتْ مِن سُوٓءٍ تَوَدُّ لَوْ أَنَّ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَهُۥٓ أَمَدًۢا بَعِيدًا ۗ وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسَهُۥ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ رَءُوفٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ

Transliteration yawma tajidu kullu nafsin mā ʿamilat min khayrin muḥ'ḍaran wamā ʿamilat min sūin tawaddu law anna baynahā wabaynahu amadan baʿīdan wayuḥadhirukumu l-lahu nafsahu wal-lahu raūfun bil-ʿibādi

English The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allāh warns you of Himself, and Allāh is Kind to [His] servants."

1. يَوْمَyawma(On the) day
2. تَجِدُtajiduwill find
3. كُلُّkulluevery
4. نَفْسٍۢnafsinsoul
5. مَّاmāwhat
6. عَمِلَتْʿamilatit did
7. مِنْminof
8. خَيْرٍۢkhayringood
9. مُّحْضَرًۭاmuḥ'ḍaranpresented
10. وَمَاwamāand what
11. عَمِلَتْʿamilatit did
12. مِنminof
13. سُوٓءٍۢsūinevil
14. تَوَدُّtawadduit will wish
15. لَوْlaw[if]
16. أَنَّannathat
17. بَيْنَهَاbaynahābetween itself
18. وَبَيْنَهُۥٓwabaynahuand between it (evil)
19. أَمَدًۢاamadan(was) a distance
20. بَعِيدًۭا ۗbaʿīdangreat
21. وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُwayuḥadhirukumuAnd warns you
22. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
23. نَفْسَهُۥ ۗnafsahu(against) Himself
24. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allah
25. رَءُوفٌۢraūfun(is) Most Kind
26. بِٱلْعِبَادِbil-ʿibādito (His) [the] slaves

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Transliteration qul in kuntum tuḥibbūna l-laha fa-ittabiʿūnī yuḥ'bib'kumu l-lahu wayaghfir lakum dhunūbakum wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmun

English Say, [O Muḥammad], "If you should love Allāh, then follow me, [so] Allāh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."

1. قُلْqulSay
2. إِنinIf
3. كُنتُمْkuntumyou
4. تُحِبُّونَtuḥibbūnalove
5. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
6. فَٱتَّبِعُونِىfa-ittabiʿūnīthen follow me
7. يُحْبِبْكُمُyuḥ'bib'kumuwill love you
8. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
9. وَيَغْفِرْwayaghfirand He will forgive
10. لَكُمْlakumfor you
11. ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗdhunūbakumyour sins
12. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
13. غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
14. رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

قُلْ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ ۖ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

Transliteration qul aṭīʿū l-laha wal-rasūla fa-in tawallaw fa-inna l-laha lā yuḥibbu l-kāfirīna

English Say, "Obey Allāh and the Messenger. But if you turn away - then indeed, Allāh does not like the disbelievers."

1. قُلْqulSay
2. أَطِيعُوا۟aṭīʿūObey
3. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
4. وَٱلرَّسُولَ ۖwal-rasūlaand the Messenger
5. فَإِنfa-inThen if
6. تَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawthey turn away
7. فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
8. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
9. لَاlā(does) not
10. يُحِبُّyuḥibbulove
11. ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصْطَفَىٰٓ ءَادَمَ وَنُوحًا وَءَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَءَالَ عِمْرَٰنَ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Transliteration inna l-laha iṣ'ṭafā ādama wanūḥan waāla ib'rāhīma waāla ʿim'rāna ʿalā l-ʿālamīna

English Indeed, Allāh chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of ʿImrān over the worlds -

1. ۞ إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
3. ٱصْطَفَىٰٓiṣ'ṭafāchose
4. ءَادَمَādamaAdam
5. وَنُوحًۭاwanūḥanand Nuh
6. وَءَالَwaālaand (the) family
7. إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahim
8. وَءَالَwaālaand (the) family
9. عِمْرَٰنَʿim'rāna(of) Imran
10. عَلَىʿalāover
11. ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds

ذُرِّيَّةًۢ بَعْضُهَا مِنۢ بَعْضٍ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration dhurriyyatan baʿḍuhā min baʿḍin wal-lahu samīʿun ʿalīmun

English Descendants, some of them from others. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

1. ذُرِّيَّةًۢdhurriyyatanDescendents
2. بَعْضُهَاbaʿḍuhāsome of them
3. مِنۢminfrom
4. بَعْضٍۢ ۗbaʿḍinothers
5. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
6. سَمِيعٌsamīʿun(is) All-Hearing
7. عَلِيمٌʿalīmunAll-Knowing

إِذْ قَالَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُ عِمْرَٰنَ رَبِّ إِنِّى نَذَرْتُ لَكَ مَا فِى بَطْنِى مُحَرَّرًا فَتَقَبَّلْ مِنِّىٓ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

Transliteration idh qālati im'ra-atu ʿim'rāna rabbi innī nadhartu laka mā fī baṭnī muḥarraran fataqabbal minnī innaka anta l-samīʿu l-ʿalīmu

English [Mention, O Muḥammad], when the wife of ʿImrān said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing."

1. إِذْidhWhen
2. قَالَتِqālati[she] said
3. ٱمْرَأَتُim'ra-atu(the) wife
4. عِمْرَٰنَʿim'rāna(of) Imran
5. رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
6. إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I
7. نَذَرْتُnadhartu[I] vowed
8. لَكَlakato You
9. مَاmāwhat
10. فِىfī(is) in
11. بَطْنِىbaṭnīmy womb
12. مُحَرَّرًۭاmuḥarrarandedicated
13. فَتَقَبَّلْfataqabbalso accept
14. مِنِّىٓ ۖminnīfrom me
15. إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, You
16. أَنتَantaYou
17. ٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(are) the All-Hearing
18. ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knowing

فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْهَا قَالَتْ رَبِّ إِنِّى وَضَعْتُهَآ أُنثَىٰ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا وَضَعَتْ وَلَيْسَ ٱلذَّكَرُ كَٱلْأُنثَىٰ ۖ وَإِنِّى سَمَّيْتُهَا مَرْيَمَ وَإِنِّىٓ أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ

Transliteration falammā waḍaʿathā qālat rabbi innī waḍaʿtuhā unthā wal-lahu aʿlamu bimā waḍaʿat walaysa l-dhakaru kal-unthā wa-innī sammaytuhā maryama wa-innī uʿīdhuhā bika wadhurriyyatahā mina l-shayṭāni l-rajīmi

English But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allāh was most knowing of what she delivered, and the male is not like the female. "And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]."

1. فَلَمَّاfalammāThen when
2. وَضَعَتْهَاwaḍaʿathāshe delivered her
3. قَالَتْqālatshe said
4. رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
5. إِنِّىinnīindeed I
6. وَضَعْتُهَآwaḍaʿtuhā[I] (have) delivered [her]
7. أُنثَىٰunthāa female
8. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
9. أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows better
10. بِمَاbimā[of] what
11. وَضَعَتْwaḍaʿatshe delivered
12. وَلَيْسَwalaysaand is not
13. ٱلذَّكَرُl-dhakaruthe male
14. كَٱلْأُنثَىٰ ۖkal-unthālike the female
15. وَإِنِّىwa-innīAnd that I
16. سَمَّيْتُهَاsammaytuhā[I] (have) named her
17. مَرْيَمَmaryamaMaryam
18. وَإِنِّىٓwa-innīand that I
19. أُعِيذُهَاuʿīdhuhā[I] seek refuge for her
20. بِكَbikain You
21. وَذُرِّيَّتَهَاwadhurriyyatahāand her offspring
22. مِنَminafrom
23. ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِl-shayṭānithe Shaitaan
24. ٱلرَّجِيمِl-rajīmithe rejected

فَتَقَبَّلَهَا رَبُّهَا بِقَبُولٍ حَسَنٍ وَأَنۢبَتَهَا نَبَاتًا حَسَنًا وَكَفَّلَهَا زَكَرِيَّا ۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا زَكَرِيَّا ٱلْمِحْرَابَ وَجَدَ عِندَهَا رِزْقًا ۖ قَالَ يَـٰمَرْيَمُ أَنَّىٰ لَكِ هَـٰذَا ۖ قَالَتْ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ

Transliteration fataqabbalahā rabbuhā biqabūlin ḥasanin wa-anbatahā nabātan ḥasanan wakaffalahā zakariyyā kullamā dakhala ʿalayhā zakariyyā l-miḥ'rāba wajada ʿindahā riz'qan qāla yāmaryamu annā laki hādhā qālat huwa min ʿindi l-lahi inna l-laha yarzuqu man yashāu bighayri ḥisābin

English So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, "O Mary, from where is this [coming] to you?" She said, "It is from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh provides for whom He wills without account."

1. فَتَقَبَّلَهَاfataqabbalahāSo accepted her
2. رَبُّهَاrabbuhāher Lord
3. بِقَبُولٍbiqabūlinwith acceptance
4. حَسَنٍۢḥasaningood
5. وَأَنۢبَتَهَاwa-anbatahāand reared her
6. نَبَاتًاnabātana rearing
7. حَسَنًۭاḥasanangood
8. وَكَفَّلَهَاwakaffalahāand put her in (the) care
9. زَكَرِيَّا ۖzakariyyā(of) Zakariya
10. كُلَّمَاkullamāWhenever
11. دَخَلَdakhalaentered
12. عَلَيْهَاʿalayhāupon her
13. زَكَرِيَّاzakariyyāZakariya
14. ٱلْمِحْرَابَl-miḥ'rāba[the] prayer chamber
15. وَجَدَwajadahe found
16. عِندَهَاʿindahāwith her
17. رِزْقًۭا ۖriz'qanprovision
18. قَالَqālaHe said
19. يَـٰمَرْيَمُyāmaryamuO Maryam
20. أَنَّىٰannāFrom where
21. لَكِlakifor you
22. هَـٰذَا ۖhādhā(is) this
23. قَالَتْqālatShe said
24. هُوَhuwaThis
25. مِنْmin(is)
26. عِندِʿindifrom
27. ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
28. إِنَّinnaIndeed
29. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
30. يَرْزُقُyarzuqugives provision
31. مَنman(to) whom
32. يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
33. بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
34. حِسَابٍḥisābinmeasure

هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِيَّا رَبَّهُۥ ۖ قَالَ رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِن لَّدُنكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ ٱلدُّعَآءِ

Transliteration hunālika daʿā zakariyyā rabbahu qāla rabbi hab lī min ladunka dhurriyyatan ṭayyibatan innaka samīʿu l-duʿāi

English At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."

1. هُنَالِكَhunālikaThere only
2. دَعَاdaʿāinvoked
3. زَكَرِيَّاzakariyyāZakariya
4. رَبَّهُۥ ۖrabbahuhis Lord
5. قَالَqālahe said
6. رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
7. هَبْhabgrant
8. لِىlī[for] me
9. مِنminfrom
10. لَّدُنكَladunkaYourself
11. ذُرِّيَّةًۭdhurriyyatanoffspring
12. طَيِّبَةً ۖṭayyibatanpure
13. إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, You
14. سَمِيعُsamīʿu(are) All-Hearer
15. ٱلدُّعَآءِl-duʿāi(of) the prayer

فَنَادَتْهُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَهُوَ قَآئِمٌ يُصَلِّى فِى ٱلْمِحْرَابِ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكَ بِيَحْيَىٰ مُصَدِّقًۢا بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَسَيِّدًا وَحَصُورًا وَنَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Transliteration fanādathu l-malāikatu wahuwa qāimun yuṣallī fī l-miḥ'rābi anna l-laha yubashiruka biyaḥyā muṣaddiqan bikalimatin mina l-lahi wasayyidan waḥaṣūran wanabiyyan mina l-ṣāliḥīna

English So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allāh gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allāh and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous."

1. فَنَادَتْهُfanādathuThen called him
2. ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angels
3. وَهُوَwahuwawhen he
4. قَآئِمٌۭqāimun(was) standing
5. يُصَلِّىyuṣallīpraying
6. فِىfīin
7. ٱلْمِحْرَابِl-miḥ'rābithe prayer chamber
8. أَنَّannaIndeed
9. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
10. يُبَشِّرُكَyubashirukagives you glad tidings
11. بِيَحْيَىٰbiyaḥyāof Yahya
12. مُصَدِّقًۢاmuṣaddiqanconfirming
13. بِكَلِمَةٍۢbikalimatin[of] a Word
14. مِّنَminafrom
15. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
16. وَسَيِّدًۭاwasayyidanand a noble
17. وَحَصُورًۭاwaḥaṣūranand chaste
18. وَنَبِيًّۭاwanabiyyanand a Prophet
19. مِّنَminaamong
20. ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous

قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِى غُلَـٰمٌ وَقَدْ بَلَغَنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ وَٱمْرَأَتِى عَاقِرٌ ۖ قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱللَّهُ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ

Transliteration qāla rabbi annā yakūnu lī ghulāmun waqad balaghaniya l-kibaru wa-im'ra-atī ʿāqirun qāla kadhālika l-lahu yafʿalu mā yashāu

English He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" He [the angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He does what He wills."

1. قَالَqālaHe said
2. رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
3. أَنَّىٰannāhow
4. يَكُونُyakūnucan (there) be
5. لِىlīfor me
6. غُلَـٰمٌۭghulāmuna son
7. وَقَدْwaqadand verily
8. بَلَغَنِىَbalaghaniyahas reached me
9. ٱلْكِبَرُl-kibaru[the] old age
10. وَٱمْرَأَتِىwa-im'ra-atīand my wife
11. عَاقِرٌۭ ۖʿāqirun(is) [a] barren
12. قَالَqālaHe said
13. كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
14. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
15. يَفْعَلُyafʿaludoes
16. مَاmāwhat
17. يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱجْعَل لِّىٓ ءَايَةً ۖ قَالَ ءَايَتُكَ أَلَّا تُكَلِّمَ ٱلنَّاسَ ثَلَـٰثَةَ أَيَّامٍ إِلَّا رَمْزًا ۗ وَٱذْكُر رَّبَّكَ كَثِيرًا وَسَبِّحْ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِ

Transliteration qāla rabbi ij'ʿal lī āyatan qāla āyatuka allā tukallima l-nāsa thalāthata ayyāmin illā ramzan wa-udh'kur rabbaka kathīran wasabbiḥ bil-ʿashiyi wal-ib'kāri

English He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning."

1. قَالَqālaHe said
2. رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
3. ٱجْعَلij'ʿalmake
4. لِّىٓlīfor me
5. ءَايَةًۭ ۖāyatana sign
6. قَالَqālaHe said
7. ءَايَتُكَāyatukayour sign
8. أَلَّاallā(is) that not
9. تُكَلِّمَtukallimayou will speak
10. ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa(to) the people
11. ثَلَـٰثَةَthalāthata(for) three
12. أَيَّامٍayyāmindays
13. إِلَّاillāexcept
14. رَمْزًۭا ۗramzan(with) gestures
15. وَٱذْكُرwa-udh'kurAnd remember
16. رَّبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
17. كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmuch
18. وَسَبِّحْwasabbiḥand glorify (Him)
19. بِٱلْعَشِىِّbil-ʿashiyiin the evening
20. وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِwal-ib'kāriand (in) the morning

وَإِذْ قَالَتِ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَـٰمَرْيَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصْطَفَىٰكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَٱصْطَفَىٰكِ عَلَىٰ نِسَآءِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Transliteration wa-idh qālati l-malāikatu yāmaryamu inna l-laha iṣ'ṭafāki waṭahharaki wa-iṣ'ṭafāki ʿalā nisāi l-ʿālamīna

English And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.

1. وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
2. قَالَتِqālatisaid
3. ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angels
4. يَـٰمَرْيَمُyāmaryamuO Maryam
5. إِنَّinnaIndeed
6. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
7. ٱصْطَفَىٰكِiṣ'ṭafāki(has) chosen you
8. وَطَهَّرَكِwaṭahharakiand purified you
9. وَٱصْطَفَىٰكِwa-iṣ'ṭafākiand chosen you
10. عَلَىٰʿalāover
11. نِسَآءِnisāi(the) women
12. ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds

يَـٰمَرْيَمُ ٱقْنُتِى لِرَبِّكِ وَٱسْجُدِى وَٱرْكَعِى مَعَ ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ

Transliteration yāmaryamu uq'nutī lirabbiki wa-us'judī wa-ir'kaʿī maʿa l-rākiʿīna

English O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]."

1. يَـٰمَرْيَمُyāmaryamuO Maryam
2. ٱقْنُتِىuq'nutīBe obedient
3. لِرَبِّكِlirabbikito your Lord
4. وَٱسْجُدِىwa-us'judīand prostrate
5. وَٱرْكَعِىwa-ir'kaʿīand bow down
6. مَعَmaʿawith
7. ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَl-rākiʿīnathose who bow down

ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ أَنۢبَآءِ ٱلْغَيْبِ نُوحِيهِ إِلَيْكَ ۚ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَيْهِمْ إِذْ يُلْقُونَ أَقْلَـٰمَهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ يَكْفُلُ مَرْيَمَ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَيْهِمْ إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ

Transliteration dhālika min anbāi l-ghaybi nūḥīhi ilayka wamā kunta ladayhim idh yul'qūna aqlāmahum ayyuhum yakfulu maryama wamā kunta ladayhim idh yakhtaṣimūna

English That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muḥammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed.

1. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
2. مِنْmin(is) from
3. أَنۢبَآءِanbāi(the) news
4. ٱلْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseen
5. نُوحِيهِnūḥīhiWe reveal it
6. إِلَيْكَ ۚilaykato you
7. وَمَاwamāAnd not
8. كُنتَkuntayou were
9. لَدَيْهِمْladayhimwith them
10. إِذْidhwhen
11. يُلْقُونَyul'qūnathey cast
12. أَقْلَـٰمَهُمْaqlāmahumtheir pens
13. أَيُّهُمْayyuhum(as to) which of them
14. يَكْفُلُyakfulutakes charge (of)
15. مَرْيَمَmaryamaMaryam
16. وَمَاwamāand not
17. كُنتَkuntayou were
18. لَدَيْهِمْladayhimwith them
19. إِذْidhwhen
20. يَخْتَصِمُونَyakhtaṣimūnathey (were) disputing

إِذْ قَالَتِ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَـٰمَرْيَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنْهُ ٱسْمُهُ ٱلْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ وَجِيهًا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

Transliteration idh qālati l-malāikatu yāmaryamu inna l-laha yubashiruki bikalimatin min'hu us'muhu l-masīḥu ʿīsā ub'nu maryama wajīhan fī l-dun'yā wal-ākhirati wamina l-muqarabīna

English [And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allāh].

1. إِذْidhWhen
2. قَالَتِqālatisaid
3. ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angels
4. يَـٰمَرْيَمُyāmaryamuO Maryam
5. إِنَّinnaIndeed
6. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
7. يُبَشِّرُكِyubashirukigives you glad tidings
8. بِكَلِمَةٍۢbikalimatinof a word
9. مِّنْهُmin'hufrom Him
10. ٱسْمُهُus'muhuhis name
11. ٱلْمَسِيحُl-masīḥu(is) the Messiah
12. عِيسَىʿīsāIsa
13. ٱبْنُub'nuson
14. مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
15. وَجِيهًۭاwajīhanhonored
16. فِىfīin
17. ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
18. وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand (in) the Hereafter
19. وَمِنَwaminaand of
20. ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَl-muqarabīnathose brought near (to Allah)

وَيُكَلِّمُ ٱلنَّاسَ فِى ٱلْمَهْدِ وَكَهْلًا وَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Transliteration wayukallimu l-nāsa fī l-mahdi wakahlan wamina l-ṣāliḥīna

English He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous."

1. وَيُكَلِّمُwayukallimuAnd he will speak
2. ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa(to) the people
3. فِىfīin
4. ٱلْمَهْدِl-mahdithe cradle
5. وَكَهْلًۭاwakahlanand (in) maturity
6. وَمِنَwaminaand (he will be) of
7. ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous

قَالَتْ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِى وَلَدٌ وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِى بَشَرٌ ۖ قَالَ كَذَٰلِكِ ٱللَّهُ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ

Transliteration qālat rabbi annā yakūnu lī waladun walam yamsasnī basharun qāla kadhāliki l-lahu yakhluqu mā yashāu idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fayakūnu

English She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.

1. قَالَتْqālatShe said
2. رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
3. أَنَّىٰannāhow
4. يَكُونُyakūnuis [it]
5. لِىlīfor me
6. وَلَدٌۭwaladuna boy
7. وَلَمْwalamand (has) not
8. يَمْسَسْنِىyamsasnītouch(ed) me
9. بَشَرٌۭ ۖbasharunany man
10. قَالَqālaHe said
11. كَذَٰلِكِkadhālikiThus
12. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
13. يَخْلُقُyakhluqucreates
14. مَاmāwhat
15. يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
16. إِذَاidhāWhen
17. قَضَىٰٓqaḍāHe decrees
18. أَمْرًۭاamrana matter
19. فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen only
20. يَقُولُyaqūluHe says
21. لَهُۥlahuto it
22. كُنkunBe
23. فَيَكُونُfayakūnuand it becomes

وَيُعَلِّمُهُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ

Transliteration wayuʿallimuhu l-kitāba wal-ḥik'mata wal-tawrāta wal-injīla

English And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel

1. وَيُعَلِّمُهُwayuʿallimuhuAnd He will teach him
2. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
3. وَٱلْحِكْمَةَwal-ḥik'mataand [the] wisdom
4. وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَwal-tawrātaand the Taurat
5. وَٱلْإِنجِيلَwal-injīlaand the Injeel

وَرَسُولًا إِلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَنِّى قَدْ جِئْتُكُم بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ أَنِّىٓ أَخْلُقُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطِّينِ كَهَيْـَٔةِ ٱلطَّيْرِ فَأَنفُخُ فِيهِ فَيَكُونُ طَيْرًۢا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَأُبْرِئُ ٱلْأَكْمَهَ وَٱلْأَبْرَصَ وَأُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا تَأْكُلُونَ وَمَا تَدَّخِرُونَ فِى بُيُوتِكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration warasūlan ilā banī is'rāīla annī qad ji'tukum biāyatin min rabbikum annī akhluqu lakum mina l-ṭīni kahayati l-ṭayri fa-anfukhu fīhi fayakūnu ṭayran bi-idh'ni l-lahi wa-ub'ri-u l-akmaha wal-abraṣa wa-uḥ'yī l-mawtā bi-idh'ni l-lahi wa-unabbi-ukum bimā takulūna wamā taddakhirūna fī buyūtikum inna fī dhālika laāyatan lakum in kuntum mu'minīna

English And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allāh. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allāh. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.

1. وَرَسُولًاwarasūlanAnd (make him) a Messenger
2. إِلَىٰilāto
3. بَنِىٓbanī(the) Children
4. إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel
5. أَنِّىannīIndeed, I
6. قَدْqad[surely]
7. جِئْتُكُمji'tukum[I] (have) come (to) you
8. بِـَٔايَةٍۢbiāyatinwith a sign
9. مِّنminfrom
10. رَّبِّكُمْ ۖrabbikumyour Lord
11. أَنِّىٓannīthat I
12. أَخْلُقُakhluqu[I] design
13. لَكُمlakumfor you
14. مِّنَminafrom
15. ٱلطِّينِl-ṭīni[the] clay
16. كَهَيْـَٔةِkahayatilike the form
17. ٱلطَّيْرِl-ṭayri(of) the bird
18. فَأَنفُخُfa-anfukhuthen I breath
19. فِيهِfīhiinto it
20. فَيَكُونُfayakūnuand it becomes
21. طَيْرًۢاṭayrana bird
22. بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby (the) permission
23. ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahi(of) Allah
24. وَأُبْرِئُwa-ub'ri-uAnd I cure
25. ٱلْأَكْمَهَl-akmahathe blind
26. وَٱلْأَبْرَصَwal-abraṣaand the leper
27. وَأُحْىِwa-uḥ'yīand I give life
28. ٱلْمَوْتَىٰl-mawtā(to) the dead
29. بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby (the) permission
30. ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahi(of) Allah
31. وَأُنَبِّئُكُمwa-unabbi-ukumAnd I inform you
32. بِمَاbimāof what
33. تَأْكُلُونَtakulūnayou eat
34. وَمَاwamāand what
35. تَدَّخِرُونَtaddakhirūnayou store
36. فِىfīin
37. بُيُوتِكُمْ ۚbuyūtikumyour houses
38. إِنَّinnaIndeed
39. فِىfīin
40. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
41. لَـَٔايَةًۭlaāyatan(is) surely a sign
42. لَّكُمْlakumfor you
43. إِنinif
44. كُنتُمkuntumyou are
45. مُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَىَّ مِنَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ وَلِأُحِلَّ لَكُم بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى حُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ وَجِئْتُكُم بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

Transliteration wamuṣaddiqan limā bayna yadayya mina l-tawrāti wali-uḥilla lakum baʿḍa alladhī ḥurrima ʿalaykum waji'tukum biāyatin min rabbikum fa-ittaqū l-laha wa-aṭīʿūni

English And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allāh and obey me.

1. وَمُصَدِّقًۭاwamuṣaddiqanAnd confirming
2. لِّمَاlimāthat which
3. بَيْنَbayna(was)
4. يَدَىَّyadayyabefore me
5. مِنَminaof
6. ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِl-tawrātithe Taurat
7. وَلِأُحِلَّwali-uḥillaand so that I make lawful
8. لَكُمlakumfor you
9. بَعْضَbaʿḍasome
10. ٱلَّذِىalladhī(of) that which
11. حُرِّمَḥurrimawas forbidden
12. عَلَيْكُمْ ۚʿalaykumto you
13. وَجِئْتُكُمwaji'tukumAnd I (have) come to you
14. بِـَٔايَةٍۢbiāyatinwith a sign
15. مِّنminfrom
16. رَّبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lord
17. فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqūSo fear
18. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
19. وَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّى وَرَبُّكُمْ فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۗ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ

Transliteration inna l-laha rabbī warabbukum fa-uʿ'budūhu hādhā ṣirāṭun mus'taqīmun

English Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path.'"

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
3. رَبِّىrabbī(is) my Lord
4. وَرَبُّكُمْwarabbukumand your Lord
5. فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۗfa-uʿ'budūhuso worship Him
6. هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
7. صِرَٰطٌۭṣirāṭun(is) the path
8. مُّسْتَقِيمٌۭmus'taqīmunstraight

۞ فَلَمَّآ أَحَسَّ عِيسَىٰ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْكُفْرَ قَالَ مَنْ أَنصَارِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ قَالَ ٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَ نَحْنُ أَنصَارُ ٱللَّهِ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَٱشْهَدْ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ

Transliteration falammā aḥassa ʿīsā min'humu l-kuf'ra qāla man anṣārī ilā l-lahi qāla l-ḥawāriyūna naḥnu anṣāru l-lahi āmannā bil-lahi wa-ish'had bi-annā mus'limūna

English But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, "Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allāh?" The disciples said, "We are supporters for Allāh. We have believed in Allāh and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].

1. ۞ فَلَمَّآfalammāThen when
2. أَحَسَّaḥassaperceived
3. عِيسَىٰʿīsāIsa
4. مِنْهُمُmin'humufrom them
5. ٱلْكُفْرَl-kuf'ra[the] disbelief
6. قَالَqālahe said
7. مَنْmanWho
8. أَنصَارِىٓanṣārī(will be) my helpers
9. إِلَىilāto
10. ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
11. قَالَqālaSaid
12. ٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَl-ḥawāriyūnathe disciples
13. نَحْنُnaḥnuWe
14. أَنصَارُanṣāru(will be the) helpers
15. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
16. ءَامَنَّاāmannāwe believe[d]
17. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
18. وَٱشْهَدْwa-ish'hadand bear witness
19. بِأَنَّاbi-annāthat we
20. مُسْلِمُونَmus'limūna(are) Muslims

رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا بِمَآ أَنزَلْتَ وَٱتَّبَعْنَا ٱلرَّسُولَ فَٱكْتُبْنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ

Transliteration rabbanā āmannā bimā anzalta wa-ittabaʿnā l-rasūla fa-uk'tub'nā maʿa l-shāhidīna

English Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger [i.e., Jesus], so register us among the witnesses [to truth]."

1. رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
2. ءَامَنَّاāmannāwe believe[d]
3. بِمَآbimāin what
4. أَنزَلْتَanzaltaYou revealed
5. وَٱتَّبَعْنَاwa-ittabaʿnāand we follow[ed]
6. ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
7. فَٱكْتُبْنَاfa-uk'tub'nāthen write us
8. مَعَmaʿaamong
9. ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَl-shāhidīnathe witnesses

وَمَكَرُوا۟ وَمَكَرَ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ

Transliteration wamakarū wamakara l-lahu wal-lahu khayru l-mākirīna

English And they [i.e., the disbelievers] planned, but Allāh planned. And Allāh is the best of planners.

1. وَمَكَرُوا۟wamakarūAnd they schemed
2. وَمَكَرَwamakaraand planned
3. ٱللَّهُ ۖl-lahuAllah
4. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
5. خَيْرُkhayru(is the) best
6. ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَl-mākirīna(of) the planners

إِذْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ يَـٰعِيسَىٰٓ إِنِّى مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَىَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَجَاعِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَىَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ فِيمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ

Transliteration idh qāla l-lahu yāʿīsā innī mutawaffīka warāfiʿuka ilayya wamuṭahhiruka mina alladhīna kafarū wajāʿilu alladhīna ittabaʿūka fawqa alladhīna kafarū ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati thumma ilayya marjiʿukum fa-aḥkumu baynakum fīmā kuntum fīhi takhtalifūna

English [Mention] when Allāh said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify [i.e., free] you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allāh alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.

1. إِذْidhWhen
2. قَالَqālasaid
3. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
4. يَـٰعِيسَىٰٓyāʿīsāO Isa
5. إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I
6. مُتَوَفِّيكَmutawaffīka(will) take you
7. وَرَافِعُكَwarāfiʿukaand raise you
8. إِلَىَّilayyato Myself
9. وَمُطَهِّرُكَwamuṭahhirukaand purify you
10. مِنَminafrom
11. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
12. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve[d]
13. وَجَاعِلُwajāʿiluand I will make
14. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
15. ٱتَّبَعُوكَittabaʿūkafollow[ed] you
16. فَوْقَfawqasuperior
17. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(to) those who
18. كَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūdisbelieve[d]
19. إِلَىٰilāon
20. يَوْمِyawmi(the) Day
21. ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖl-qiyāmati(of) [the] Resurrection
22. ثُمَّthummaThen
23. إِلَىَّilayyato Me
24. مَرْجِعُكُمْmarjiʿukum(is) your return
25. فَأَحْكُمُfa-aḥkumuand I will judge
26. بَيْنَكُمْbaynakumbetween you
27. فِيمَاfīmāabout what
28. كُنتُمْkuntumyou were
29. فِيهِfīhi[in it]
30. تَخْتَلِفُونَtakhtalifūnadiffering

فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَأُعَذِّبُهُمْ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ

Transliteration fa-ammā alladhīna kafarū fa-uʿadhibuhum ʿadhāban shadīdan fī l-dun'yā wal-ākhirati wamā lahum min nāṣirīna

English And as for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers."

1. فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve[d]
4. فَأُعَذِّبُهُمْfa-uʿadhibuhumthen I will punish them
5. عَذَابًۭاʿadhāban(with) a punishment
6. شَدِيدًۭاshadīdansevere
7. فِىfīin
8. ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
9. وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand (in) the Hereafter
10. وَمَاwamāAnd not
11. لَهُمlahumfor them
12. مِّنminany
13. نَّـٰصِرِينَnāṣirīnahelpers

وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَيُوَفِّيهِمْ أُجُورَهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Transliteration wa-ammā alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti fayuwaffīhim ujūrahum wal-lahu lā yuḥibbu l-ẓālimīna

English But as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards, and Allāh does not like the wrongdoers.

1. وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as for
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
4. وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand did
5. ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥāti[the] righteous deeds
6. فَيُوَفِّيهِمْfayuwaffīhimthen He will grant them in full
7. أُجُورَهُمْ ۗujūrahumtheir reward
8. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
9. لَاlā(does) not
10. يُحِبُّyuḥibbulove
11. ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers

ذَٰلِكَ نَتْلُوهُ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ وَٱلذِّكْرِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ

Transliteration dhālika natlūhu ʿalayka mina l-āyāti wal-dhik'ri l-ḥakīmi

English This is what We recite to you, [O Muḥammad], of [Our] verses and the precise [and wise] message [i.e., the Qur’ān].

1. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
2. نَتْلُوهُnatlūhu(is what) We recite [it]
3. عَلَيْكَʿalaykato you
4. مِنَminaof
5. ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِl-āyātithe Verses
6. وَٱلذِّكْرِwal-dhik'riand the Reminder
7. ٱلْحَكِيمِl-ḥakīmi[the] Wise

إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ ءَادَمَ ۖ خَلَقَهُۥ مِن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ

Transliteration inna mathala ʿīsā ʿinda l-lahi kamathali ādama khalaqahu min turābin thumma qāla lahu kun fayakūnu

English Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allāh is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. مَثَلَmathala(the) likeness
3. عِيسَىٰʿīsā(of) Isa
4. عِندَʿindanear
5. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
6. كَمَثَلِkamathali(is) like (the) likeness
7. ءَادَمَ ۖādama(of) Adam
8. خَلَقَهُۥkhalaqahuHe created him
9. مِنminfrom
10. تُرَابٍۢturābindust
11. ثُمَّthummathen
12. قَالَqālaHe said
13. لَهُۥlahuto him
14. كُنkunBe
15. فَيَكُونُfayakūnuand he was

ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ

Transliteration al-ḥaqu min rabbika falā takun mina l-mum'tarīna

English The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters.

1. ٱلْحَقُّal-ḥaquThe truth
2. مِنmin(is) from
3. رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
4. فَلَاfalāso (do) not
5. تَكُنtakunbe
6. مِّنَminaamong
7. ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَl-mum'tarīnathe doubters

فَمَنْ حَآجَّكَ فِيهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْا۟ نَدْعُ أَبْنَآءَنَا وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَنِسَآءَنَا وَنِسَآءَكُمْ وَأَنفُسَنَا وَأَنفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَل لَّعْنَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ

Transliteration faman ḥājjaka fīhi min baʿdi mā jāaka mina l-ʿil'mi faqul taʿālaw nadʿu abnāanā wa-abnāakum wanisāanā wanisāakum wa-anfusanā wa-anfusakum thumma nabtahil fanajʿal laʿnata l-lahi ʿalā l-kādhibīna

English Then whoever argues with you about it after [this] knowledge has come to you - say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allāh upon the liars [among us]."

1. فَمَنْfamanThen whoever
2. حَآجَّكَḥājjakaargues (with) you
3. فِيهِfīhiconcerning it
4. مِنۢminfrom
5. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
6. مَاmāwhat
7. جَآءَكَjāakacame to you
8. مِنَminaof
9. ٱلْعِلْمِl-ʿil'mithe knowledge
10. فَقُلْfaqulthen say
11. تَعَالَوْا۟taʿālawCome
12. نَدْعُnadʿulet us call
13. أَبْنَآءَنَاabnāanāour sons
14. وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْwa-abnāakumand your sons
15. وَنِسَآءَنَاwanisāanāand our women
16. وَنِسَآءَكُمْwanisāakumand your women
17. وَأَنفُسَنَاwa-anfusanāand ourselves
18. وَأَنفُسَكُمْwa-anfusakumand yourselves
19. ثُمَّthummathen
20. نَبْتَهِلْnabtahillet us pray humbly
21. فَنَجْعَلfanajʿaland [we] invoke
22. لَّعْنَتَlaʿnatathe curse
23. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
24. عَلَىʿalāon
25. ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْقَصَصُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَـٰهٍ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

Transliteration inna hādhā lahuwa l-qaṣaṣu l-ḥaqu wamā min ilāhin illā l-lahu wa-inna l-laha lahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu

English Indeed, this is the true narration. And there is no deity except Allāh. And indeed, Allāh is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
3. لَهُوَlahuwasurely it (is)
4. ٱلْقَصَصُl-qaṣaṣuthe narration
5. ٱلْحَقُّ ۚl-ḥaqu[the] true
6. وَمَاwamāAnd (there is) no
7. مِنْmin(of)
8. إِلَـٰهٍilāhingod
9. إِلَّاillāexcept
10. ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah
11. وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
12. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
13. لَهُوَlahuwasurely He
14. ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
15. ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ

Transliteration fa-in tawallaw fa-inna l-laha ʿalīmun bil-muf'sidīna

English But if they turn away, then indeed - Allāh is Knowing of the corrupters.

1. فَإِنfa-inAnd if
2. تَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawthey turn back
3. فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
4. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
5. عَلِيمٌۢʿalīmun(is) All-Knowing
6. بِٱلْمُفْسِدِينَbil-muf'sidīnaof the corrupters

قُلْ يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ تَعَالَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ كَلِمَةٍ سَوَآءٍۭ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ أَلَّا نَعْبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشْرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضًا أَرْبَابًا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُولُوا۟ ٱشْهَدُوا۟ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ

Transliteration qul yāahla l-kitābi taʿālaw ilā kalimatin sawāin baynanā wabaynakum allā naʿbuda illā l-laha walā nush'rika bihi shayan walā yattakhidha baʿḍunā baʿḍan arbāban min dūni l-lahi fa-in tawallaw faqūlū ish'hadū bi-annā mus'limūna

English Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allāh and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allāh." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]."

1. قُلْqulSay
2. يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
3. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
4. تَعَالَوْا۟taʿālawCome
5. إِلَىٰilāto
6. كَلِمَةٍۢkalimatina word
7. سَوَآءٍۭsawāinequitable
8. بَيْنَنَاbaynanābetween us
9. وَبَيْنَكُمْwabaynakumand between you
10. أَلَّاallāthat not
11. نَعْبُدَnaʿbudawe worship
12. إِلَّاillāexcept
13. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
14. وَلَاwalāand not
15. نُشْرِكَnush'rikawe associate partners
16. بِهِۦbihiwith Him
17. شَيْـًۭٔاshayananything
18. وَلَاwalāand not
19. يَتَّخِذَyattakhidhatake
20. بَعْضُنَاbaʿḍunāsome of us
21. بَعْضًاbaʿḍan(to) others
22. أَرْبَابًۭاarbāban(as) lords
23. مِّنminfrom
24. دُونِdūnibesides
25. ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahiAllah
26. فَإِنfa-inThen if
27. تَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawthey turn away
28. فَقُولُوا۟faqūlūthen say
29. ٱشْهَدُوا۟ish'hadūBear witness
30. بِأَنَّاbi-annāthat we
31. مُسْلِمُونَmus'limūna(are) Muslims

يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تُحَآجُّونَ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَتِ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ وَٱلْإِنجِيلُ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦٓ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration yāahla l-kitābi lima tuḥājjūna fī ib'rāhīma wamā unzilati l-tawrātu wal-injīlu illā min baʿdihi afalā taʿqilūna

English O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham while the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Then will you not reason?

1. يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
2. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
3. لِمَlimaWhy
4. تُحَآجُّونَtuḥājjūna(do) you argue
5. فِىٓfīconcerning
6. إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahim
7. وَمَآwamāwhile not
8. أُنزِلَتِunzilatiwas revealed
9. ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُl-tawrātuthe Taurat
10. وَٱلْإِنجِيلُwal-injīluand the Injeel
11. إِلَّاillāexcept
12. مِنۢminfrom
13. بَعْدِهِۦٓ ۚbaʿdihiafter him
14. أَفَلَاafalāThen why don't
15. تَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnayou use your intellect

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ حَـٰجَجْتُمْ فِيمَا لَكُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ فَلِمَ تُحَآجُّونَ فِيمَا لَيْسَ لَكُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration hāantum hāulāi ḥājajtum fīmā lakum bihi ʿil'mun falima tuḥājjūna fīmā laysa lakum bihi ʿil'mun wal-lahu yaʿlamu wa-antum lā taʿlamūna

English Here you are - those who have argued about that of which you have [some] knowledge, but why do you argue about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allāh knows, while you know not.

1. هَـٰٓأَنتُمْhāantumHere you are
2. هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithose who
3. حَـٰجَجْتُمْḥājajtumargued
4. فِيمَاfīmāabout what
5. لَكُمlakum[for] you
6. بِهِۦbihiof it
7. عِلْمٌۭʿil'mun(have some) knowledge
8. فَلِمَfalimaThen why
9. تُحَآجُّونَtuḥājjūna(do) you argue
10. فِيمَاfīmāabout what
11. لَيْسَlaysanot
12. لَكُمlakumfor you
13. بِهِۦbihiof it
14. عِلْمٌۭ ۚʿil'mun(any) knowledge
15. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
16. يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
17. وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
18. لَاlā(do) not
19. تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknow

مَا كَانَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّا وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ حَنِيفًا مُّسْلِمًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

Transliteration mā kāna ib'rāhīmu yahūdiyyan walā naṣrāniyyan walākin kāna ḥanīfan mus'liman wamā kāna mina l-mush'rikīna

English Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allāh]. And he was not of the polytheists.

1. مَاmāNot
2. كَانَkānawas
3. إِبْرَٰهِيمُib'rāhīmuIbrahim
4. يَهُودِيًّۭاyahūdiyyana Jew
5. وَلَاwalāand not
6. نَصْرَانِيًّۭاnaṣrāniyyana Christian
7. وَلَـٰكِنwalākin[and] but
8. كَانَkānahe was
9. حَنِيفًۭاḥanīfana true
10. مُّسْلِمًۭاmus'limanMuslim
11. وَمَاwamāand not
12. كَانَkānahe was
13. مِنَminafrom
14. ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheists

إِنَّ أَوْلَى ٱلنَّاسِ بِإِبْرَٰهِيمَ لَلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ وَهَـٰذَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَلِىُّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration inna awlā l-nāsi bi-ib'rāhīma lalladhīna ittabaʿūhu wahādhā l-nabiyu wa-alladhīna āmanū wal-lahu waliyyu l-mu'minīna

English Indeed, the most worthy of Abraham among the people are those who followed him [in submission to Allāh] and this prophet [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] and those who believe [in his message]. And Allāh is the Ally of the believers.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. أَوْلَىawlāthe best to claim relationship
3. ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) people
4. بِإِبْرَٰهِيمَbi-ib'rāhīmawith Ibrahim
5. لَلَّذِينَlalladhīna(are) those who
6. ٱتَّبَعُوهُittabaʿūhufollow him
7. وَهَـٰذَاwahādhāand this
8. ٱلنَّبِىُّl-nabiyu[the] Prophet
9. وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
10. ءَامَنُوا۟ ۗāmanūbelieve[d]
11. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
12. وَلِىُّwaliyyu(is) a Guardian
13. ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna(of) the believers

وَدَّت طَّآئِفَةٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَوْ يُضِلُّونَكُمْ وَمَا يُضِلُّونَ إِلَّآ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ

Transliteration waddat ṭāifatun min ahli l-kitābi law yuḍillūnakum wamā yuḍillūna illā anfusahum wamā yashʿurūna

English A faction of the People of the Scripture wish they could mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they perceive [it] not.

1. وَدَّتwaddatWished
2. طَّآئِفَةٌۭṭāifatuna group
3. مِّنْminfrom
4. أَهْلِahli(the) People
5. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
6. لَوْlawif
7. يُضِلُّونَكُمْyuḍillūnakumthey could lead you astray
8. وَمَاwamāand not
9. يُضِلُّونَyuḍillūnathey lead astray
10. إِلَّآillāexcept
11. أَنفُسَهُمْanfusahumthemselves
12. وَمَاwamāand not
13. يَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūnathey perceive

يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَنتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ

Transliteration yāahla l-kitābi lima takfurūna biāyāti l-lahi wa-antum tashhadūna

English O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allāh while you witness [to their truth]?

1. يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
2. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
3. لِمَlimaWhy do
4. تَكْفُرُونَtakfurūnayou deny
5. بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyāti[in] the Signs
6. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
7. وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
8. تَشْهَدُونَtashhadūnabear witness

يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تَلْبِسُونَ ٱلْحَقَّ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُونَ ٱلْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration yāahla l-kitābi lima talbisūna l-ḥaqa bil-bāṭili wataktumūna l-ḥaqa wa-antum taʿlamūna

English O People of the Scripture, why do you mix [i.e., confuse] the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know [it]?

1. يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
2. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
3. لِمَlimaWhy
4. تَلْبِسُونَtalbisūnado you mix
5. ٱلْحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truth
6. بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِbil-bāṭiliwith the falsehood
7. وَتَكْتُمُونَwataktumūnaand conceal
8. ٱلْحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truth
9. وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
10. تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknow

وَقَالَت طَّآئِفَةٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَجْهَ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَٱكْفُرُوٓا۟ ءَاخِرَهُۥ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

Transliteration waqālat ṭāifatun min ahli l-kitābi āminū bi-alladhī unzila ʿalā alladhīna āmanū wajha l-nahāri wa-uk'furū ākhirahu laʿallahum yarjiʿūna

English And a faction of the People of the Scripture say [to each other], "Believe in that which was revealed to the believers at the beginning of the day and reject it at its end that perhaps they will return [i.e., abandon their religion],

1. وَقَالَتwaqālatAnd said
2. طَّآئِفَةٌۭṭāifatuna group
3. مِّنْminof
4. أَهْلِahli(the) People
5. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
6. ءَامِنُوا۟āminūBelieve
7. بِٱلَّذِىٓbi-alladhīin what
8. أُنزِلَunzilawas revealed
9. عَلَىʿalāon
10. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
11. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
12. وَجْهَwajha(at the) beginning
13. ٱلنَّهَارِl-nahāri(of) the day
14. وَٱكْفُرُوٓا۟wa-uk'furūand reject
15. ءَاخِرَهُۥākhirahu(at) its end
16. لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumperhaps they may
17. يَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnareturn

وَلَا تُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِمَن تَبِعَ دِينَكُمْ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْهُدَىٰ هُدَى ٱللَّهِ أَن يُؤْتَىٰٓ أَحَدٌ مِّثْلَ مَآ أُوتِيتُمْ أَوْ يُحَآجُّوكُمْ عِندَ رَبِّكُمْ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْفَضْلَ بِيَدِ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration walā tu'minū illā liman tabiʿa dīnakum qul inna l-hudā hudā l-lahi an yu'tā aḥadun mith'la mā ūtītum aw yuḥājjūkum ʿinda rabbikum qul inna l-faḍla biyadi l-lahi yu'tīhi man yashāu wal-lahu wāsiʿun ʿalīmun

English And do not trust except those who follow your religion." Say, "Indeed, the [true] guidance is the guidance of Allāh. [Do you fear] lest someone be given [knowledge] like you were given or that they would [thereby] argue with you before your Lord?" Say, "Indeed, [all] bounty is in the hand of Allāh - He grants it to whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Wise."

1. وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
2. تُؤْمِنُوٓا۟tu'minūbelieve
3. إِلَّاillāexcept
4. لِمَنliman(the one) who
5. تَبِعَtabiʿafollows
6. دِينَكُمْdīnakumyour religion
7. قُلْqulSay
8. إِنَّinnaIndeed
9. ٱلْهُدَىٰl-hudāthe (true) guidance
10. هُدَىhudā(is the) Guidance
11. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
12. أَنanlest
13. يُؤْتَىٰٓyu'tāis given
14. أَحَدٌۭaḥadun(to) one
15. مِّثْلَmith'la(the) like
16. مَآmā(of) what
17. أُوتِيتُمْūtītumwas given to you
18. أَوْawor
19. يُحَآجُّوكُمْyuḥājjūkumthey may argue with you
20. عِندَʿindanear
21. رَبِّكُمْ ۗrabbikumyour Lord
22. قُلْqulSay
23. إِنَّinnaIndeed
24. ٱلْفَضْلَl-faḍlathe Bounty
25. بِيَدِbiyadi(is) in the Hand
26. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
27. يُؤْتِيهِyu'tīhiHe gives it
28. مَنman(to) whom
29. يَشَآءُ ۗyashāuHe wills
30. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allah
31. وَٰسِعٌwāsiʿun(is) All-Encompassing
32. عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmunAll-Knowing

يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration yakhtaṣṣu biraḥmatihi man yashāu wal-lahu dhū l-faḍli l-ʿaẓīmi

English He selects for His mercy whom He wills. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

1. يَخْتَصُّyakhtaṣṣuHe chooses
2. بِرَحْمَتِهِۦbiraḥmatihifor His Mercy
3. مَنmanwhom
4. يَشَآءُ ۗyashāuHe wills
5. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
6. ذُوdhū(is) the Possessor
7. ٱلْفَضْلِl-faḍli(of) Bounty
8. ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi[the] great

۞ وَمِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مَنْ إِن تَأْمَنْهُ بِقِنطَارٍ يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ إِلَيْكَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ إِن تَأْمَنْهُ بِدِينَارٍ لَّا يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا مَا دُمْتَ عَلَيْهِ قَآئِمًا ۗ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لَيْسَ عَلَيْنَا فِى ٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ سَبِيلٌ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration wamin ahli l-kitābi man in tamanhu biqinṭārin yu-addihi ilayka wamin'hum man in tamanhu bidīnārin lā yu-addihi ilayka illā mā dum'ta ʿalayhi qāiman dhālika bi-annahum qālū laysa ʿalaynā fī l-umiyīna sabīlun wayaqūlūna ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba wahum yaʿlamūna

English And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, "There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned." And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know [it].

1. ۞ وَمِنْwaminAnd from
2. أَهْلِahli(the) People
3. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
4. مَنْman(is he) who
5. إِنinif
6. تَأْمَنْهُtamanhuyou entrust him
7. بِقِنطَارٍۢbiqinṭārinwith a great amount of wealth
8. يُؤَدِّهِۦٓyu-addihihe will return it
9. إِلَيْكَilaykato you
10. وَمِنْهُمwamin'humAnd from them
11. مَّنْman(is he) who
12. إِنinif
13. تَأْمَنْهُtamanhuyou entrust him
14. بِدِينَارٍۢbidīnārinwith a single coin
15. لَّاlānot
16. يُؤَدِّهِۦٓyu-addihihe will return it
17. إِلَيْكَilaykato you
18. إِلَّاillāexcept
19. مَاmāthat
20. دُمْتَdum'tayou keep constantly
21. عَلَيْهِʿalayhiover him
22. قَآئِمًۭا ۗqāimanstanding
23. ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
24. بِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because they
25. قَالُوا۟qālūsaid
26. لَيْسَlaysaNot
27. عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāon us
28. فِىfīconcerning
29. ٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَl-umiyīnathe unlettered people
30. سَبِيلٌۭsabīlunany [way] (accountability)
31. وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say
32. عَلَىʿalāabout
33. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
34. ٱلْكَذِبَl-kadhibathe lie
35. وَهُمْwahumwhile they
36. يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

بَلَىٰ مَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِعَهْدِهِۦ وَٱتَّقَىٰ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

Transliteration balā man awfā biʿahdihi wa-ittaqā fa-inna l-laha yuḥibbu l-mutaqīna

English But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allāh - then indeed, Allāh loves those who fear Him.

1. بَلَىٰbalāNay
2. مَنْmanwhoever
3. أَوْفَىٰawfāfulfills
4. بِعَهْدِهِۦbiʿahdihihis covenant
5. وَٱتَّقَىٰwa-ittaqāand fears (Allah)
6. فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
7. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
8. يُحِبُّyuḥibbuloves
9. ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathose who fear (Him)

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَا خَلَـٰقَ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَا يَنظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Transliteration inna alladhīna yashtarūna biʿahdi l-lahi wa-aymānihim thamanan qalīlan ulāika lā khalāqa lahum fī l-ākhirati walā yukallimuhumu l-lahu walā yanẓuru ilayhim yawma l-qiyāmati walā yuzakkīhim walahum ʿadhābun alīmun

English Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allāh and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allāh will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. يَشْتَرُونَyashtarūnaexchange
4. بِعَهْدِbiʿahdi(the) Covenant
5. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
6. وَأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْwa-aymānihimand their oaths
7. ثَمَنًۭاthamanan(for) a price
8. قَلِيلًاqalīlanlittle
9. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
10. لَاlāno
11. خَلَـٰقَkhalāqashare
12. لَهُمْlahumfor them
13. فِىfīin
14. ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
15. وَلَاwalāand not
16. يُكَلِّمُهُمُyukallimuhumuwill speak to them
17. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
18. وَلَاwalāand not
19. يَنظُرُyanẓurulook
20. إِلَيْهِمْilayhimat them
21. يَوْمَyawma(on the) Day
22. ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
23. وَلَاwalāand not
24. يُزَكِّيهِمْyuzakkīhimpurify them
25. وَلَهُمْwalahumand for them
26. عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
27. أَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful

وَإِنَّ مِنْهُمْ لَفَرِيقًا يَلْوُۥنَ أَلْسِنَتَهُم بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِتَحْسَبُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration wa-inna min'hum lafarīqan yalwūna alsinatahum bil-kitābi litaḥsabūhu mina l-kitābi wamā huwa mina l-kitābi wayaqūlūna huwa min ʿindi l-lahi wamā huwa min ʿindi l-lahi wayaqūlūna ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba wahum yaʿlamūna

English And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allāh," but it is not from Allāh. And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know.

1. وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
2. مِنْهُمْmin'humamong them
3. لَفَرِيقًۭاlafarīqansurely (is) a group
4. يَلْوُۥنَyalwūnathey distort
5. أَلْسِنَتَهُمalsinatahumtheir tongues
6. بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِbil-kitābiin (reciting) the Book
7. لِتَحْسَبُوهُlitaḥsabūhuso that you may think it
8. مِنَmina(is) from
9. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe Book
10. وَمَاwamāand not
11. هُوَhuwait
12. مِنَmina(is) from
13. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe Book
14. وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say
15. هُوَhuwaIt
16. مِنْmin(is)
17. عِندِʿindifrom
18. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
19. وَمَاwamāBut not
20. هُوَhuwait
21. مِنْmin(is)
22. عِندِʿindifrom
23. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
24. وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say
25. عَلَىʿalāabout
26. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
27. ٱلْكَذِبَl-kadhibathe lie
28. وَهُمْwahumwhile they
29. يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

مَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُؤْتِيَهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحُكْمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ ثُمَّ يَقُولَ لِلنَّاسِ كُونُوا۟ عِبَادًا لِّى مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِن كُونُوا۟ رَبَّـٰنِيِّـۧنَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمْ تَدْرُسُونَ

Transliteration mā kāna libasharin an yu'tiyahu l-lahu l-kitāba wal-ḥuk'ma wal-nubuwata thumma yaqūla lilnnāsi kūnū ʿibādan lī min dūni l-lahi walākin kūnū rabbāniyyīna bimā kuntum tuʿallimūna l-kitāba wabimā kuntum tadrusūna

English It is not for a human [prophet] that Allāh should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allāh," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."

1. مَاmāNot
2. كَانَkānais
3. لِبَشَرٍlibasharinfor a human
4. أَنanthat
5. يُؤْتِيَهُyu'tiyahugives him
6. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
7. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
8. وَٱلْحُكْمَwal-ḥuk'maand the wisdom
9. وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَwal-nubuwataand the Prophethood
10. ثُمَّthummathen
11. يَقُولَyaqūlahe says
12. لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsito the people
13. كُونُوا۟kūnūBe
14. عِبَادًۭاʿibādanworshippers
15. لِّىlīof me
16. مِنminfrom
17. دُونِdūnibesides
18. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
19. وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut (would say)
20. كُونُوا۟kūnūBe
21. رَبَّـٰنِيِّـۧنَrabbāniyyīnaworshippers of the Lord
22. بِمَاbimābecause
23. كُنتُمْkuntumyou have been
24. تُعَلِّمُونَtuʿallimūnateaching
25. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
26. وَبِمَاwabimāand because
27. كُنتُمْkuntumyou have been
28. تَدْرُسُونَtadrusūnastudying (it)

وَلَا يَأْمُرَكُمْ أَن تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرْبَابًا ۗ أَيَأْمُرُكُم بِٱلْكُفْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ أَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ

Transliteration walā yamurakum an tattakhidhū l-malāikata wal-nabiyīna arbāban ayamurukum bil-kuf'ri baʿda idh antum mus'limūna

English Nor could he order you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he order you to disbelief after you had been Muslims?

1. وَلَاwalāAnd not
2. يَأْمُرَكُمْyamurakumhe will order you
3. أَنanthat
4. تَتَّخِذُوا۟tattakhidhūyou take
5. ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَl-malāikatathe Angels
6. وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَwal-nabiyīnaand the Prophets
7. أَرْبَابًا ۗarbāban(as) lords
8. أَيَأْمُرُكُمayamurukumWould he order you
9. بِٱلْكُفْرِbil-kuf'rito [the] disbelief
10. بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
11. إِذْidh[when]
12. أَنتُمantumyou (have become)
13. مُّسْلِمُونَmus'limūnaMuslims

وَإِذْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَـٰقَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ لَمَآ ءَاتَيْتُكُم مِّن كِتَـٰبٍ وَحِكْمَةٍ ثُمَّ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَكُمْ لَتُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهِۦ وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥ ۚ قَالَ ءَأَقْرَرْتُمْ وَأَخَذْتُمْ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُمْ إِصْرِى ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ أَقْرَرْنَا ۚ قَالَ فَٱشْهَدُوا۟ وَأَنَا۠ مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ

Transliteration wa-idh akhadha l-lahu mīthāqa l-nabiyīna lamā ātaytukum min kitābin waḥik'matin thumma jāakum rasūlun muṣaddiqun limā maʿakum latu'minunna bihi walatanṣurunnahu qāla a-aqrartum wa-akhadhtum ʿalā dhālikum iṣ'rī qālū aqrarnā qāla fa-ish'hadū wa-anā maʿakum mina l-shāhidīna

English And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allāh took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allāh] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?" They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

1. وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
2. أَخَذَakhadhatook
3. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
4. مِيثَـٰقَmīthāqacovenant
5. ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَl-nabiyīna(of) the Prophets
6. لَمَآlamāCertainly, whatever
7. ءَاتَيْتُكُمātaytukumI (have) given you
8. مِّنminof
9. كِتَـٰبٍۢkitābin(the) Book
10. وَحِكْمَةٍۢwaḥik'matinand wisdom
11. ثُمَّthummathen
12. جَآءَكُمْjāakumcomes to you
13. رَسُولٌۭrasūluna Messenger
14. مُّصَدِّقٌۭmuṣaddiqunconfirming
15. لِّمَاlimāthat which
16. مَعَكُمْmaʿakum(is) with you
17. لَتُؤْمِنُنَّlatu'minunnayou must believe
18. بِهِۦbihiin him
19. وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥ ۚwalatanṣurunnahuand you must help him
20. قَالَqālaHe said
21. ءَأَقْرَرْتُمْa-aqrartumDo you affirm
22. وَأَخَذْتُمْwa-akhadhtumand take
23. عَلَىٰʿalāon
24. ذَٰلِكُمْdhālikumthat (condition)
25. إِصْرِى ۖiṣ'rīMy Covenant
26. قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said
27. أَقْرَرْنَا ۚaqrarnāWe affirm
28. قَالَqālaHe said
29. فَٱشْهَدُوا۟fa-ish'hadūThen bear witness
30. وَأَنَا۠wa-anāand I (am)
31. مَعَكُمmaʿakumwith you
32. مِّنَminaamong
33. ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَl-shāhidīnathe witnesses

فَمَن تَوَلَّىٰ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ

Transliteration faman tawallā baʿda dhālika fa-ulāika humu l-fāsiqūna

English And whoever turned away after that - they were the defiantly disobedient.

1. فَمَنfamanThen whoever
2. تَوَلَّىٰtawallāturns away
3. بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
4. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
5. فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
6. هُمُhumuthey
7. ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَl-fāsiqūna(are) the defiantly disobedient

أَفَغَيْرَ دِينِ ٱللَّهِ يَبْغُونَ وَلَهُۥٓ أَسْلَمَ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ طَوْعًا وَكَرْهًا وَإِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُونَ

Transliteration afaghayra dīni l-lahi yabghūna walahu aslama man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi ṭawʿan wakarhan wa-ilayhi yur'jaʿūna

English So is it other than the religion of Allāh they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned?

1. أَفَغَيْرَafaghayraSo is (it) other than
2. دِينِdīni(the) religion
3. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
4. يَبْغُونَyabghūnathey seek
5. وَلَهُۥٓwalahuWhile to Him
6. أَسْلَمَaslama(have) submitted
7. مَنmanwhatever
8. فِىfī(is) in
9. ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
10. وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
11. طَوْعًۭاṭawʿanwillingly
12. وَكَرْهًۭاwakarhanor unwillingly
13. وَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand towards Him
14. يُرْجَعُونَyur'jaʿūnathey will be returned

قُلْ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ وَإِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَٱلْأَسْبَاطِ وَمَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ وَٱلنَّبِيُّونَ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُۥ مُسْلِمُونَ

Transliteration qul āmannā bil-lahi wamā unzila ʿalaynā wamā unzila ʿalā ib'rāhīma wa-is'māʿīla wa-is'ḥāqa wayaʿqūba wal-asbāṭi wamā ūtiya mūsā waʿīsā wal-nabiyūna min rabbihim lā nufarriqu bayna aḥadin min'hum wanaḥnu lahu mus'limūna

English Say, "We have believed in Allāh and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants [al-Asbāṭ], and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him."

1. قُلْqulSay
2. ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believed
3. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
4. وَمَآwamāand what
5. أُنزِلَunzila(is) revealed
6. عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāon us
7. وَمَآwamāand what
8. أُنزِلَunzilawas revealed
9. عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
10. إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahim
11. وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَwa-is'māʿīlaand Ishmael
12. وَإِسْحَـٰقَwa-is'ḥāqaand Isaac
13. وَيَعْقُوبَwayaʿqūbaand Yaqub
14. وَٱلْأَسْبَاطِwal-asbāṭiand the descendents
15. وَمَآwamāand what
16. أُوتِىَūtiyawas given
17. مُوسَىٰmūsā(to) Musa
18. وَعِيسَىٰwaʿīsāand Isa
19. وَٱلنَّبِيُّونَwal-nabiyūnaand the Prophets
20. مِنminfrom
21. رَّبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lord
22. لَاlāNot
23. نُفَرِّقُnufarriquwe make distinction
24. بَيْنَbaynabetween
25. أَحَدٍۢaḥadinany
26. مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
27. وَنَحْنُwanaḥnuand we
28. لَهُۥlahuto Him
29. مُسْلِمُونَmus'limūna(are) submissive

وَمَن يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمِ دِينًا فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ

Transliteration waman yabtaghi ghayra l-is'lāmi dīnan falan yuq'bala min'hu wahuwa fī l-ākhirati mina l-khāsirīna

English And whoever desires other than Islām as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

1. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
2. يَبْتَغِyabtaghiseeks
3. غَيْرَghayraother than
4. ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمِl-is'lāmi[the] Islam
5. دِينًۭاdīnan(as) religion
6. فَلَنfalanthen never
7. يُقْبَلَyuq'balawill be accepted
8. مِنْهُmin'hufrom him
9. وَهُوَwahuwaand he
10. فِىfīin
11. ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
12. مِنَmina(will be) from
13. ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَl-khāsirīnathe losers

كَيْفَ يَهْدِى ٱللَّهُ قَوْمًا كَفَرُوا۟ بَعْدَ إِيمَـٰنِهِمْ وَشَهِدُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱلرَّسُولَ حَقٌّ وَجَآءَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Transliteration kayfa yahdī l-lahu qawman kafarū baʿda īmānihim washahidū anna l-rasūla ḥaqqun wajāahumu l-bayinātu wal-lahu lā yahdī l-qawma l-ẓālimīna

English How shall Allāh guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and had witnessed that the Messenger is true and clear signs had come to them? And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.

1. كَيْفَkayfaHow
2. يَهْدِىyahdī(shall) guide
3. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
4. قَوْمًۭاqawmana people
5. كَفَرُوا۟kafarū(who) disbelieved
6. بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
7. إِيمَـٰنِهِمْīmānihimtheir belief
8. وَشَهِدُوٓا۟washahidūand (had) witnessed
9. أَنَّannathat
10. ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
11. حَقٌّۭḥaqqun(is) true
12. وَجَآءَهُمُwajāahumuand came to them
13. ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚl-bayinātuthe clear proofs
14. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
15. لَاlā(does) not
16. يَهْدِىyahdīguide
17. ٱلْقَوْمَl-qawmathe people
18. ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīna[the] wrongdoers

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ جَزَآؤُهُمْ أَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ لَعْنَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration ulāika jazāuhum anna ʿalayhim laʿnata l-lahi wal-malāikati wal-nāsi ajmaʿīna

English Those - their recompense will be that upon them is the curse of Allāh and the angels and the people, all together,

1. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
2. جَزَآؤُهُمْjazāuhumtheir recompense
3. أَنَّannathat
4. عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimon them
5. لَعْنَةَlaʿnata(is the) curse
6. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
7. وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِwal-malāikatiand the Angels
8. وَٱلنَّاسِwal-nāsiand the people
9. أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall together

خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ

Transliteration khālidīna fīhā lā yukhaffafu ʿanhumu l-ʿadhābu walā hum yunẓarūna

English Abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved,

1. خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīna(They will) abide forever
2. فِيهَاfīhāin it
3. لَاlāNot
4. يُخَفَّفُyukhaffafuwill be lightened
5. عَنْهُمُʿanhumufor them
6. ٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishment
7. وَلَاwalāand not
8. هُمْhumthey
9. يُنظَرُونَyunẓarūnawill be reprieved

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Transliteration illā alladhīna tābū min baʿdi dhālika wa-aṣlaḥū fa-inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmun

English Except for those who repent after that and correct themselves. For indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

1. إِلَّاillāExcept
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. تَابُوا۟tābūrepent
4. مِنۢminfrom
5. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
6. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
7. وَأَصْلَحُوا۟wa-aṣlaḥūand reform[ed] themselves
8. فَإِنَّfa-innaThen indeed
9. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
10. غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
11. رَّحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بَعْدَ إِيمَـٰنِهِمْ ثُمَّ ٱزْدَادُوا۟ كُفْرًا لَّن تُقْبَلَ تَوْبَتُهُمْ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلضَّآلُّونَ

Transliteration inna alladhīna kafarū baʿda īmānihim thumma iz'dādū kuf'ran lan tuq'bala tawbatuhum wa-ulāika humu l-ḍālūna

English Indeed, those who disbelieve [i.e., reject the message] after their belief and then increase in disbelief - never will their [claimed] repentance be accepted, and they are the ones astray.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
4. بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
5. إِيمَـٰنِهِمْīmānihimtheir belief
6. ثُمَّthummathen
7. ٱزْدَادُوا۟iz'dādūthey increased
8. كُفْرًۭاkuf'ran(in) disbelief
9. لَّنlannever
10. تُقْبَلَtuq'balawill be accepted
11. تَوْبَتُهُمْtawbatuhumtheir repentance
12. وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikaand those
13. هُمُhumuthey
14. ٱلضَّآلُّونَl-ḍālūna(are) those who have gone astray

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْ أَحَدِهِم مِّلْءُ ٱلْأَرْضِ ذَهَبًا وَلَوِ ٱفْتَدَىٰ بِهِۦٓ ۗ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ

Transliteration inna alladhīna kafarū wamātū wahum kuffārun falan yuq'bala min aḥadihim mil'u l-arḍi dhahaban walawi if'tadā bihi ulāika lahum ʿadhābun alīmun wamā lahum min nāṣirīna

English Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
3. كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve[d]
4. وَمَاتُوا۟wamātūand died
5. وَهُمْwahumwhile they
6. كُفَّارٌۭkuffārun(are) disbelievers
7. فَلَنfalanthen never
8. يُقْبَلَyuq'balawill be accepted
9. مِنْminfrom
10. أَحَدِهِمaḥadihimany one of them
11. مِّلْءُmil'ufull
12. ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍiearth
13. ذَهَبًۭاdhahaban(of) gold
14. وَلَوِwalawi[and] (even) if
15. ٱفْتَدَىٰif'tadāhe offered as ransom
16. بِهِۦٓ ۗbihiit
17. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
18. لَهُمْlahumfor them
19. عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
20. أَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful
21. وَمَاwamāand not
22. لَهُمlahum(will be) for them
23. مِّنminany
24. نَّـٰصِرِينَnāṣirīnahelpers

لَن تَنَالُوا۟ ٱلْبِرَّ حَتَّىٰ تُنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ ۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُوا۟ مِن شَىْءٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِهِۦ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration lan tanālū l-bira ḥattā tunfiqū mimmā tuḥibbūna wamā tunfiqū min shayin fa-inna l-laha bihi ʿalīmun

English Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allāh] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allāh is Knowing of it.

1. لَنlanNever
2. تَنَالُوا۟tanālūwill you attain
3. ٱلْبِرَّl-bira[the] righteousness
4. حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
5. تُنفِقُوا۟tunfiqūyou spend
6. مِمَّاmimmāfrom what
7. تُحِبُّونَ ۚtuḥibbūnayou love
8. وَمَاwamāAnd whatever
9. تُنفِقُوا۟tunfiqūyou spend
10. مِنminof
11. شَىْءٍۢshayina thing
12. فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
13. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
14. بِهِۦbihiof it
15. عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmun(is) All-Knowing

۞ كُلُّ ٱلطَّعَامِ كَانَ حِلًّا لِّبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ إِلَّا مَا حَرَّمَ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ مِن قَبْلِ أَن تُنَزَّلَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ ۗ قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ فَٱتْلُوهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ

Transliteration kullu l-ṭaʿāmi kāna ḥillan libanī is'rāīla illā mā ḥarrama is'rāīlu ʿalā nafsihi min qabli an tunazzala l-tawrātu qul fatū bil-tawrāti fa-it'lūhā in kuntum ṣādiqīna

English All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel [i.e., Jacob] had made unlawful to himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, [O Muḥammad], "So bring the Torah and recite it, if you should be truthful."

1. ۞ كُلُّkulluAll
2. ٱلطَّعَامِl-ṭaʿāmi[the] food
3. كَانَkānawas
4. حِلًّۭاḥillanlawful
5. لِّبَنِىٓlibanīfor (the) Children
6. إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel
7. إِلَّاillāexcept
8. مَاmāwhat
9. حَرَّمَḥarramamade unlawful
10. إِسْرَٰٓءِيلُis'rāīluIsrael
11. عَلَىٰʿalāupon
12. نَفْسِهِۦnafsihihimself
13. مِنminfrom
14. قَبْلِqablibefore
15. أَنan[that]
16. تُنَزَّلَtunazzala(was) revealed
17. ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ ۗl-tawrātuthe Taurat
18. قُلْqulSay
19. فَأْتُوا۟fatūSo bring
20. بِٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِbil-tawrātithe Taurat
21. فَٱتْلُوهَآfa-it'lūhāand recite it
22. إِنinif
23. كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
24. صَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful

فَمَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

Transliteration famani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba min baʿdi dhālika fa-ulāika humu l-ẓālimūna

English And whoever invents about Allāh untruth after that - then those are [truly] the wrongdoers.

1. فَمَنِfamaniThen whoever
2. ٱفْتَرَىٰif'tarāfabricates
3. عَلَىʿalāabout
4. ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
5. ٱلْكَذِبَl-kadhiba[the] lie
6. مِنۢminfrom
7. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
8. ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
9. فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
10. هُمُhumuthey
11. ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūna(are) the wrongdoers

قُلْ صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ ۗ فَٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

Transliteration qul ṣadaqa l-lahu fa-ittabiʿū millata ib'rāhīma ḥanīfan wamā kāna mina l-mush'rikīna

English Say, "Allāh has told the truth. So follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of the polytheists."

1. قُلْqulSay
2. صَدَقَṣadaqa(has) spoken the truth
3. ٱللَّهُ ۗl-lahuAllah
4. فَٱتَّبِعُوا۟fa-ittabiʿūthen follow
5. مِلَّةَmillata(the) religion
6. إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahim
7. حَنِيفًۭاḥanīfan(the) upright
8. وَمَاwamāand not
9. كَانَkānahe was
10. مِنَminaof
11. ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheists

إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِى بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًا وَهُدًى لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Transliteration inna awwala baytin wuḍiʿa lilnnāsi lalladhī bibakkata mubārakan wahudan lil'ʿālamīna

English Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah [i.e., Makkah] - blessed and a guidance for the worlds.

1. إِنَّinnaIndeed
2. أَوَّلَawwala(the) First
3. بَيْتٍۢbaytinHouse
4. وُضِعَwuḍiʿaset up
5. لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the mankind
6. لَلَّذِىlalladhī(is) the one which
7. بِبَكَّةَbibakkata(is) at Bakkah
8. مُبَارَكًۭاmubārakanblessed
9. وَهُدًۭىwahudanand a guidance
10. لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَlil'ʿālamīnafor the worlds

فِيهِ ءَايَـٰتٌۢ بَيِّنَـٰتٌ مَّقَامُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۖ وَمَن دَخَلَهُۥ كَانَ ءَامِنًا ۗ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ حِجُّ ٱلْبَيْتِ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا ۚ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Transliteration fīhi āyātun bayyinātun maqāmu ib'rāhīma waman dakhalahu kāna āminan walillahi ʿalā l-nāsi ḥijju l-bayti mani is'taṭāʿa ilayhi sabīlan waman kafara fa-inna l-laha ghaniyyun ʿani l-ʿālamīna

English In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it [i.e., the Ḥaram] shall be safe. And [due] to Allāh from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves [i.e., refuses] - then indeed, Allāh is free from need of the worlds.

1. فِيهِfīhiIn it
2. ءَايَـٰتٌۢāyātun(are) signs
3. بَيِّنَـٰتٌۭbayyinātunclear
4. مَّقَامُmaqāmustanding place
5. إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۖib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahim
6. وَمَنwamanand whoever
7. دَخَلَهُۥdakhalahuenters it
8. كَانَkānais
9. ءَامِنًۭا ۗāminansafe
10. وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd (due) to Allah
11. عَلَىʿalāupon
12. ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe mankind
13. حِجُّḥijju(is) pilgrimage
14. ٱلْبَيْتِl-bayti(of) the House
15. مَنِmani(for one) who
16. ٱسْتَطَاعَis'taṭāʿais able
17. إِلَيْهِilayhito [it]
18. سَبِيلًۭا ۚsabīlan(find) a way
19. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
20. كَفَرَkafaradisbelieved
21. فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
22. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
23. غَنِىٌّghaniyyun(is) free from need
24. عَنِʿaniof
25. ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe universe

قُلْ يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ شَهِيدٌ عَلَىٰ مَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration qul yāahla l-kitābi lima takfurūna biāyāti l-lahi wal-lahu shahīdun ʿalā mā taʿmalūna

English Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allāh while Allāh is Witness over what you do?"

1. قُلْqulSay
2. يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
3. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
4. لِمَlimaWhy
5. تَكْفُرُونَtakfurūna(do) you disbelieve
6. بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiin (the) Verses
7. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
8. وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuwhile Allah
9. شَهِيدٌshahīdun(is) a Witness
10. عَلَىٰʿalāover
11. مَاmāwhat
12. تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do

قُلْ يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ مَنْ ءَامَنَ تَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَأَنتُمْ شُهَدَآءُ ۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَـٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration qul yāahla l-kitābi lima taṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi man āmana tabghūnahā ʿiwajan wa-antum shuhadāu wamā l-lahu bighāfilin ʿammā taʿmalūna

English Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you avert from the way of Allāh those who believe, seeking to make it [seem] deviant, while you are witnesses [to the truth]? And Allāh is not unaware of what you do."

1. قُلْqulSay
2. يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
3. ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
4. لِمَlimaWhy
5. تَصُدُّونَtaṣuddūna(do) you hinder
6. عَنʿanfrom
7. سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
8. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
9. مَنْman(those) who
10. ءَامَنَāmanabelieve[d]
11. تَبْغُونَهَاtabghūnahāseeking (to make) it
12. عِوَجًۭاʿiwajan(seem) crooked
13. وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
14. شُهَدَآءُ ۗshuhadāu(are) witnesses
15. وَمَاwamāAnd not
16. ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
17. بِغَـٰفِلٍbighāfilin(is) unaware
18. عَمَّاʿammāof what
19. تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تُطِيعُوا۟ فَرِيقًا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يَرُدُّوكُم بَعْدَ إِيمَـٰنِكُمْ كَـٰفِرِينَ

Transliteration yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū in tuṭīʿū farīqan mina alladhīna ūtū l-kitāba yaruddūkum baʿda īmānikum kāfirīna

English O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they would turn you back, after your belief, [to being] unbelievers.

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
3. ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
4. إِنinIf
5. تُطِيعُوا۟tuṭīʿūyou obey
6. فَرِيقًۭاfarīqana group
7. مِّنَminafrom
8. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
9. أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
10. ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
11. يَرُدُّوكُمyaruddūkumthey will turn you back
12. بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
13. إِيمَـٰنِكُمْīmānikumyour belief
14. كَـٰفِرِينَkāfirīna(as) disbelievers

وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ وَأَنتُمْ تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِ وَفِيكُمْ رَسُولُهُۥ ۗ وَمَن يَعْتَصِم بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ هُدِىَ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

Transliteration wakayfa takfurūna wa-antum tut'lā ʿalaykum āyātu l-lahi wafīkum rasūluhu waman yaʿtaṣim bil-lahi faqad hudiya ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmin

English And how could you disbelieve while to you are being recited the verses of Allāh and among you is His Messenger? And whoever holds firmly to Allāh has [indeed] been guided to a straight path.

1. وَكَيْفَwakayfaAnd how (could)
2. تَكْفُرُونَtakfurūnayou disbelieve
3. وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile [you]
4. تُتْلَىٰtut'lāis recited
5. عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
6. ءَايَـٰتُāyātu(the) Verses
7. ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
8. وَفِيكُمْwafīkumand among you
9. رَسُولُهُۥ ۗrasūluhu(is) His Messenger
10. وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
11. يَعْتَصِمyaʿtaṣimholds firmly
12. بِٱللَّهِbil-lahito Allah
13. فَقَدْfaqadthen surely
14. هُدِىَhudiyahe is guided
15. إِلَىٰilāto
16. صِرَٰطٍۢṣirāṭina path
17. مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīminstraight

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِۦ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ

Transliteration yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū ittaqū l-laha ḥaqqa tuqātihi walā tamūtunna illā wa-antum mus'limūna

English O you who have believed, fear Allāh as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

1. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
2. ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
3. ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
4. ٱتَّقُوا۟ittaqūFear
5. ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
6. حَقَّḥaqqa(as is His) right
7. تُقَاتِهِۦtuqātihi(that) He (should) be feared
8. وَلَاwalāand (do) not
9. تَمُوتُنَّtamūtunnadie
10. إِلَّاillāexcept
11. وَأَنتُمwa-antum[while you]
12. مُّسْلِمُونَmus'limūna(as) Muslims
